I would just be curious where they had him on the draft board with other linebackers. It seemed to me like maybe they thought Junior Colson would still be there but he was snatched up by the Chargers 3 picks before that. If Colson was supposed to be the guy then I think they messed up. If Wallace was ahead of Colson on the board, then the trade down makes sense.
I think there's a few things they take into consideration (not exclusively or in order):
1) what he brings today
2) what he can bring tomorrow
3) is he coachable
4) does he have that dawg in him
I do think that the greater focus and weight, though, needs to be and probably is on 2-4 of those. What they can bring day 1 is important, but you've got to have a longer view than that.
We want day 1 starters (which is why I think some are pissed), but what's more important is that they are long term big time contributors.
I think they took the long term view with Wallace, but I also think that we will see flashes of why he was taken when he was.
Which is what we saw in a the other LBs we've taken and who have taken on dominant roles over the years.
Thomas Davis was a frustrating (for fans) project initially because they couldn't decide whether he was going to be a safety or linebacker. Beason and Kuechly both started off on the outside.
Point is, they didn't start off in the role that they were initially planned for ...and it was ok. They grew into those roles.

Okay, we didn't get our Luke replacement guy. But we may well have our next Thomas Davis. We needed something to put some fight back in our defense. Morgan knows all about those guys, he was one of those guys.
I think this is right. I was thinking a lot of Will Witherspoon.

I have not seen Trevin Wallace play, and I bet 99% of people complaining haven’t seen him play… but don’t let stand in the way of you complaining
But the draftniks said he should be drafted later. LATER!!!!!!!
Lol

The sideline-to-sideline quickness/ability to cover so much of the field is big in the 2-high shell. Can ease in for now, but he fits the scheme nicely.
The more I see and read, I'm kind of getting that feel about him. It's starting to make some sense.

He's an inside linebacker
They played a 4-2-5, so he was kind of both.
I've seen some call him a weak side LB. I take it you can probably put him anywhere. He can blitz the QB, run down RBs side to side, and cover TEs.
-
He just turned 21. He needs coaching, but he's also very coachable. And I think we've got some good ones to help him with that.
He's a bit undisciplined, but he's got the speed, power, and natural instincts you want.

That feels like an eloquent definition of "dawg."
Yep. And also I got the sense that he really doesn't like people who carry the ball.

Honestly had never thought about him so total surprise.
I'm not one that thinks because I don't know something it's not worth knowing so I figure I'd educate myself on him because I might have missed something good.
I think I did. The guy is fun to watch. He's just a fast and violent disruptor more like the tasmanian devil. He's a bit out of control, which I guess is some of the knock on him.
Interviews with him are good. Seems like a really positive young kid. But on the field he's got a bit of insane going on. I've got a lot more to watch, but I can see the appeal.

Now Juan, I have noticed quite a few sexually agressive undertones in the last year. Is there anything you want to share with us?
Please don't ask.

I'll give Morgan the benefit of the doubt that he knows a good LB.
Same here. Going to go with his opinion over a bunch of draftniks especially on something like LB

Eh no point banning someone for tipping the pick when espn is milking tf out of this for time.
I banned him.
And NFL Network did it too. NFL is allowing for commercial breaks.
No excuse for spoiling the pick.

I think it's gonna be Ja'Tavion Sanders. We're gonna try to do everything we can to give Bryce a fair evaluation this year.
Could be and I would love it.
Did we meet with him? I can't remember any TE other than Wiley meeting with us.

Not buying that.
Cam had Double Trouble, Smitty, Olsen, and Shockey.
We don't have players that match any of that.
But, yes, I do think Bryce has less room for excuses going into year 2.
