  1. i think i agree with most of the OP, except Washington. I think they go offense, more than likely WR, but also possibly OL.

as far as we are concerned i think it will be one of these guys.

    C  Jackson Powers-Johnson
    LB Edgerrin Cooper
    LB Payton Wilson
    CB Mike Saintrilsil

i wouldn't be upset with another WR, but i think it's going to be one of these guys.

    or....maybe a little trade back?

lots of good options available if we did manage to move back 5-6 spots.

blank also wanted to hire Bill B but his front office talked him out of it.  Seems like the issue is much larger then most are aware of.

there's a big time disconnect there. blank as to have some buyers remorse there. whatever is going on, it makes me feel better/less miserable about our mess. just like losing the lost superbowl we were in sucked, but at least we didn't lose like they did.

cousins has a no trade clause

Why sign Kirk if you knew you like Pennix?  Blank was supposedly furious last night

    i wouldn't doubt it.

i mean we haven't had the greatest management here for a while, but the falcons doing what they did just makes you go...

What The Hell Just Happened Reaction GIF

was this planned and they just didn't tell ANYONE what they were doing? was this an impulse purchase?

but as far as Blank is concerned, he probably felt like things were on the right track and he could have that high powered offense going again and now you just have to give Cousins more weapons or give the defense more (especially since there was so much available at that moment) and you draft a QB that you won't need for 4-5 years because you've already got one locked up with a killer contract for that long?

unless they cut Cousins, by the time they are ready to move on from him contractually, Penix will have lost 3-4 years of his rookie contract and you'll only have him for another year or two.

Why do I still have this feeling that Washington got the best qb last night?  I will have to monitor that situation up there. I can't explain it it, it's just a gut feeling.  It could also be gas.

it's a sick feeling that you might be right. for some reason i just hate for them to have stumbled on something good there.

That just seems like  a level of coping.  If he could do what he did in his 5th season earlier then it would have come out.  Coaches dont intentionally hide their talented players especially in college.   Just like with bryce, I wasnt happy with the trade or the pick but he is on our team now so we have to pull for them but goddamn sometimes this franchise cannot get out of its own way.

or it sounds like what happened.

For the record, I really wanted Ladd McConkey. I think he's a Thielen 3.0. Not 2.0, but 3.0.

But I can see their reasoning for going with XL. Schematically it makes more sense. But you WILL have to replace what Thielen and Johnson do too. And that day will likely come sooner rather than later. It's a true testament to Thielen's toughness that he caught 100 balls for 1000 yards at his age with no real threats to open things underneath for him. But you can't think he won't get injured at his age at that tick. Father time always wins.

i had two dreams last night. one in which we drafted McConkey with the 39 pick and the other time we drafted Malik Washington in the 3rd or 4th. Both seemed real. The McConkey one i think had me in tears in my dream. But both i thought were great picks because they complemented what Xavier does.

i think we really should be interested in getting someone like that, if not this year then next.

I don't like the pick but the guy is gonna be easy to root for.

a lot might not like his unproven game, but all the intangibles points to someone you're proud to have as part of the team and who fits not just the "dawg" mindset, but the "keep pounding" persona.

Here's the thing for me. first, i've said all along that there's this good size group of 8-10 WRs from which i would have been really happy with and that i kind of just lumped in together because on the whole i didn't see much separation between. All of them brought something different to their game and all of them would bring something to the panthers that we were lacking, especially in the long term.

Leggette is special, though, not just because of his story (even though that's part of it). What has been seen through his ball playing career is someone that had been held back in a lot of ways from getting a chance to really show what he was capable of doing or from growing into what he could become. he kept with it, though. instead of bailing on the situation like a lot of others understandably are, he stuck around and kept making the most of every opportunity he was given, playing within whatever role he was told to take on. and he proved himself within whatever parameters he was put in.

why didn't he do in previous years what he did last year? because he was told to take on another role and play in other situations. why? because poo happens. sometimes you've got a bad QB, sometimes you've got bad coaches. sometimes both.

on top of all that, though (and this is the best part for me), the guy wanted to be here. i mean he REALLY wanted to be here. He wants to be a panther. it means something to him. and he's going to be surrounded by some big brothers that he probably needs. A guy that knows us and still wants to be here? oh absolutely yes.

also, i doubt that Bryce's dad vote for XL to be the guy on that poll was something that he came to all on his own. it probably came from talking to his son about what and who he would want to have here helping out in the passing game. We need Bryce to work out. For that to happen, he's got to have a go to WR that he just feels comfortable with, connects to, and who will be here for a long time. In a lot of ways it seems like Bryce and Xavier couldn't be more different, but i think it would be easy to develop a lot of chemistry between the two of them.

Xavier wants to be here and i think Bryce wants him to be here. i think it can work.

  8. the did alright group
Bears....got their QB and WR. so WIlliams will have DJ and Odunze to throw to. much better situation than Fields or Bryce had (two guys i'm sure he will be compared to in his rookie year).

    Pats...got a pretty good QB.

    Raiders...got Bowers at 13? ca-ching.

Vikings...got them a QB and an Edge to build around. not too bad.

Both Xaviers...Worthy in an absolute dream situation and Leggette with his home team.

Chiefs and Panthers....got a couple guys who will end up fitting a lot of needs for them.

    the not so much group
Maye...good QB going to a sucky situation. could wind up like Stroud's situation or Young's.

falcons...word is the Cousin's camp is as perplexed as we all were. apparently he was told that they were going to look at drafting a young QB. also apparently that discussion didn't involve telling him they were going to draft someone in the first round. from the looks of it, i think they want to be the packers. it's one of those things that i don't think they thought all the way through. i hope it comes back to bite them.

the "well, i didn't see that coming"  move
49ers taking Pearsall.  i figured Leggette would be going earlier than a lot of people thought (mainly thanks to us), but i don't know anyone that was talking Pearsall in the first round. Not a bad choice at all, i just figured it would be McConkey they picked up.

He can throw a slant though. This guy has the YAC, some speed and power that I have not seen in Mingo nor Marshall.

the guy is just a flat out baller that we haven't seen in TMJ or Mingo. Mingo might do better in year two, but i'm not holding my breath there.

i think that with XL's particular skill sets he will be a good bit more of a impact player than mingo was.

I’d love Wilson to work but the panthers cannot afford to draft someone with any injury history whatsoever. They just cant afford another high round pick that can’t stay on the field.

they need like a dude who’s never missed a snap since he was in peewee football or whatever. One of those weirdos who are born without ACLs and can deadlift 500 cold.

those are the guys that scare me the most because within a couple games here they will have one of several freak and uncharacteristic injuries that we couldn't have seen coming.

I had the honor of being around Legette a good bit his past two seasons at SC and can tell you he is a phenomenal human being. Took time before and after games to interact with children (mine included who became one of his little buddies and biggest fans) and never .issues a chance to smile and say something positive as is just his nature. One of the nicest people I have ever met hands down.

Aside from top notch attitude there also exists one of the best work ethics I have ever witnessed off the field. He is a natural freak of nature but he works and trains as if he isn't and must catch up. Yes he was a late bloomer and came out of nowhere but something awoke in him a couple years ago where things began to click in his mind and everything began to come together for him. He has a work ethic that will transfer well to the pros. He actually has a worth ethic, a mindset and an elite attitude that will make him a great representative of this franchise. Canales knows exactly what he is doing and may be a rookie coach but has a developed mind. He is building a culture of something different than we have seen in a long time and Morgan is most definitely not Scott Fitt. Canales has some sort of it factor that Rhule and Reich could have only dreamed of. The players will play hard for this guy I can already tell. Legette is where he wanted to be and is close to home where he feels comfortable. Go ahead and consider him to be tied and committed so deeply to this franchise that he will passionately play for the team and do so in comfort of being close to those he loves which means a lot to him personally. He is a very unique individual and will make a positive impact on this team for many years mark my words as I would be willing to die on that hill. I have that much confidence in him after seeing what a motivated and hard working blue collar style player he truly is.

i definitely appreciate the insight. thanks for sharing it. gonna love having him as a panther.
