  2. It's going to be tough to get him on the 53 if we keep Tolbert which seems likely unless he can serve double duty as a blocking TE.  Would love to be able to stash him on the practice squad to take over from Tolbert down the road.

people who make these comments aren't thinking about brockel.

this isn't a case of ward vs. tolbert.

this IS a case of ward vs. brockel (if there is a limit/quota on positions).

Gettleman has stated that he doesn't do position quotas. His approach to final cuts is to find the best 53.

The big question will be whether Lee Ward is part of that.

    i agree with this.

considering the asset ward would be to not just the run game but protecting cam, i can see his value being greater than some of the more fringe depth players.

  3. i have a friend that taught in Turkey for a couple years and went to a KFC there. he saw something called chicken sauce on the menu and the person behind the counter said you dip your chicken in it. they couldn't explain what it was but said that it was popular there and here in the states. he ordered it and found out that it was gravy. they don't have mashed potatoes there, but for some reason they had a lot of gravy and just used it to dip the chicken in. he said it was good, btw. i think it's still KFC and would be nasty regardless of where it was.

  4. An awful player from that overall awful 2009 draft

that year's draft was a nightmare. one of a few we had. hurney always did well with frst rounders, except when he traded them away like a moron. the rest of the draft picks.....ugh.

so glad we've got gettleman now.

  6. Jeremy needs to be a  panthers beat writer for the observer! His articles are always filled with good insight to the team and are informative. Great job Jeremy!

no need for that. he's got just as much access and doesn't have to answer to corporate mental midgets. not sure how he or we would benefit from him getting employed by some newspaper. sure, his readership might see a little uptick, but it's growing just fine as it is and he gets 100% of the control.

  7. i like the list.

i can see us going with just 5 on the 53 man roster and your top 5 being them.

they just have to decide whether having a vet WR presence on the roster is worth losing one of the top 5 WRs or someone else on the roster. i know they can learn a lot from cotchery being on the field, but i think they'd learn enough as they go.

  8. Yes. He's more of an offensive weapon like William Floyd was, especially in the red zone and on 3rd downs. It's no coincidence the Panthers were 1-7-1 in regular season games that he was injured in or on temporary IR for. With him healthy in the line-up, they went 6-1 and Shula was able to be less vanilla.

Still room for Ward on the team. We could also use a blocking fullback like Howard Griffith was for us. Brockel doesn't seem better than either Tolbert or Ward at what they do best, so the writing's on the wall for him.

    100% agreed.

  9. Do we really need Tolbert ? If we cut him how much cap room would we save ?

I just checked - about 2,5 million - if I read it right.

    do we need anyone?

tolbert is a multitool. good blocker. good receiver. good RB.

where he excels is in short yardage situations. the guy is a flat out beast.

we have a couple options that can be on the field at once for short yardage/goalline situations. you put him, cam, and 3 6'5 guys on the field and there's no reason you can't put that ball in the end zone.

then you add an OL that can block and another roadgrading FB back there and and it's a TD waiting to happen.

  10. Not really sure how he gets a roster spot on the 53.

    taking brockel's place.

we need what this guy can bring. he won't be just an asset to the run game, he's also very good in pass pro. he's essentially a 6th guy on the OL.

i hope he sticks. the guy is incredibly impressive at what he does and we need what he brings.

  11. Same here. No one has seen that yet. Hopefully next week KB will be able to fully participate.

Its going to be Kelvin, Funchess, and Brown as the starting 3. What a nightmare for defenses.

i think that trio with olsen is going to be one of the more dominant receiving corps in the league for years. i can't wait to see them all in action.

  12. as long as we have ron deciding to be paddleboat ron instead of riverboat ron at points in the season and as long as we have shula running the offense, i'm going to be worried about coaching decisions.

also, i don't know about the guy filling in for dehaven so that's a worry as well.

i think, tho, that we have the personnel to overcome some poor decisions from the coaching staff. i do also believe that some coaching decisions can really handicap what is done on the field as in it doesn't matter who we have on the field if the guys in charge are preventing progress from taking place.

  13. Would be a nice replacement for Dave Newton

wouldn't want him to be corrupted by bspn.

but as far as a reliable source of info and solid analysis, i think i would say he had replaced david newton, but that would be under the misguided perception that newton had been one at one time.

  14. One of the more interesting things is how valuable Derek Anderson has proven to be. Helped us with a 2-0 record filling in for Cam last year and now he's helping the WRs get better by throwing real game simulated catchable passes. If we had Stefan LeFors running these drills our WR core would be fuged.

how's Hill's technique improved? Is it better than it was when they picked him off waivers last season?

    wondering tis myself.

the biggest criticism that jeremy had was that hill never kept his eyes on the ball, they were always on his hands or where he wanted to go. is that something that improved?
