Official Week 11: Panthers @ Falcons Gameday Thread
hepcat replied to kungfoodude's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think the Cowboys tried to ride Rico hard last year and saw that he wears down easily with his hard style of running. He's a better complimentary piece than a workhorse. So I think re-signing him will depend fully on the health of Jonathan Brooks, if he even returns to the team. -
It doesn't invalidate anything else, but how you play at the end of ths season is what matters most. They could finish anywhere from 6-11 to 12-5 right now. I know it's a little hyperbolic but the season is going to be made or broken in the next 6 games. He could shut up his critics by playing like he did against the Falcons in at least HALF of the remaining games. Or if Bryce is the reason the team fails down the stretch we have our clear answer. But I think most fans, myself included, are wary that this Falcons performance was an outlier and he will be back to the same old Bryce next game, but that's why they play the games. He has 6 games to either push the team into the playoffs or fade into misery.

For a team as devoid of talent as the Panthers have been over the years I was really surprised to hear how many people wanted to trade Hubbard. -
The final 6 games this season should determine his future with the team. If he plays like he played against the Falcons against any of the playoff contending teams on the schedule, that's a positive sign. If he's posting sub 200 yard mutliple turnover games, especially if it's in all of the games, we have a problem

Falcons gonna Falcon. I thought signing Cousins was a bonehead move in the beginning. Drafting Penix was not a bad decision but wtf are you doing signing Cousins on top of it to that massive contract hahahah -

I don't honestly think this game showed us anything new. The next 6 games will show us everything we need to know because 5 of the games are against playoff contending teams. I'm happy Bryce had a career game. He's been so bad in so many games that maybe this boosts his confidence and he can start delivering consistent performances like this. But the fact is, the Falcons are not a good team. They are poorly coached, they make a lot of mistakes, and they still should have won the game. And the Falcons probably would have still won if Penix didn't get hurt. At the end of the day it doesn't matter what happened in the game as long as you win, but zooming out on the game, there's still a lot to be concerned about as the games get much harder. -

Penix likely out for the rest of the season. https://www.si.com/nfl/michael-penix-jr-knee-injury-update-falcons -
Don’t bring up logical points!!! The Huddle is on manic mode right now! Logical discussion will return after they lose again next week

The Saints game was the most confusing loss more than the wins. It legitimately looked like the team didn’t properly prepare for the game and that’s on the coaches. The Falcons game seemed to be a lucky game where Bryce decided to become an NFL QB for a change. He needs to show us he can play at that level against any other team than the Falcons. Post 3TDs and 350yards against the 49ers in a WIN and I’ll start buying some Bryce stock

Will 5-6 wins be enough for Canales to keep his job?

SF is very very good, Panthers will be humbled in prime time. The rest of the schedule is going to be very hard. -

That fight is one of my biggest gripes with Canales. They’ve been dogged in some games and the team looks like they just give up, aside from looking very unprepared for a few games this year. Even today it seemed like after the first offensive drive they were searching for answers. I’m not campaigning for Canales to be fired or anything but if the team loses the rest of their games, regardless of how Bryce looks, it would be a bad look either way. -
If they get a linebacker like Anthony Hill Jr from Texas in the draft, the defense is going to POP.

Just last week we saw the team lay a dud of all duds against the one of if not the worst team in the NFL then all of a sudden we’re confident in them beating one of the NFC West juggernauts? Can’t play the Falcons every week who probably would have won if Penix didn’t get knocked out. I think this team is obviously better than last year and that probably gets Canales another year, but there’s still a lot to be said about this season as they play contender after contender from here on out except for the Saints in the dome which is a tough game regardless of their record. They could easily lose the rest of their games and that would be OH so Panthers. -
Wasn’t super excited about this pick but definitely saw the value especially after Legette showed he was really raw. This was a Hurney era style home run pick and he will be an elite top 5 WR within a season or two. Reminds me of AJ Green.

You think he’s still a lock if they lose the rest of their games? Schedule is BRUTAL and I’d wager Bryce turns back into a pumpkin next week -
Can someone explain why we pay elite DB money to cover Mooney?
hepcat replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Mike Jackson is not a bad corner, but he looks worse being targeted 10x more -
I mean he had like 280 yards after the catch today too haha

This is the week BY9 confuses us all again…
hepcat replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
There’s no confusion he’s actually been pretty consistent against Atlanta for some reason. Now if he posted this game against say, almost any of the remaining opponents on the schedule after the garbage he’s put us through in his 2.7 years on the Panthers then yea, I’d be VERY confused. -

I was thinking of the old rule and didn’t see it changed. I’m not as up to date on my football rules as I once was. I can barely watch half the game wrangling and chasing and chauffeuring two kids around if I get a chance to sit and watch it at all -
There were way worse calls and no calls in the game than this. WAY worse.
-
Need to see him have a game like this against anyone other than the falcons. He owns them for some reason. I’m not complaining about that but we haven’t seen Bryce play this level of football against anyone else yet

Oh I didn’t see this changed. I’d still take the ball all things equal, putting pressure on your defense still seems like the riskier of the two options -

hepcat replied to kungfoodude's topic in Carolina Panthers
No it’s not. The risk is the highest letting the other team get the ball first. They can still score a TD and end the game so it’s not all things equal. If they thought the other offense sucks and their defense can handle it, then it makes no difference if they start with the ball or not. You still take the ball. -

That Canales decision to kick after winning the toss I OT. They won but that was the wrong decision 10 out of 10 times. Worst coaching decision since that -

We didn’t take into account Falcons Bryce, who looks like a real NFL QB. Back to reality against the 49ers next Monday
