  1. Well some younger vet QBs could still stand development, and some obviously made some jumps the last couple of years. I know that many of you just don't believe in Matt Corral, but I'd say that he will be on their things-to-do-list as well as anyone.
  2. I know that hindsight is 20:20, but I had to go back and see who we picked after looking at a few of these QBs... Our poo is like Murphy's law though; they probably would've never worked out as Panthers.
  3. I suspect that Gardner Minshew can bring similar results at a fraction of the price. Minshew's career passer rating is better than Carr's. He probably has some other advanced metrics that are better than Carr's as well.
  4. A lot of the old guard owners just might rue the day that they let bigger money into the club.
  5. You just have to know your QB's limitations. The goal is to get one who can recognize when he's got an advantage and make the opposition pay. You gotta develop that trust.
  6. I love that Tepper said that, and he's putting his money where his mouth is.
  7. OK, so now we know one of the reasons, perhaps the reason, why Carr and the Raiders broke up: Carr wanted to be able to audible, and McDaniels didn't want that. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/derek-carrs-brother-reveals-new-details-about-raiders-breakup-with-their-veteran-quarterback/amp/ As for Frank Reich's feelings, I was able to find an article back from his Philly days: When asked about the importance of a quarterback’s ability to audible, Reich said it depends on the individual player. “You certainly want to give a quarterback the freedom,” he said. “It’s very hard to create big plays in this league, so if you prepare a guy that he can help create big plays, put his teammates in position to make big plays, it really is advantageous to the whole team to let the guy do that.” https://www.nbcsports.com/philadelphia/philadelphia-eagles/oc-frank-reich-jumped-chance-work-doug-pederson On an off note, I think this lends support to why Mark Davis chose McDaniels over Carr. You have to let your coach get someone who is willing and able to work within your system. Carr and McDaniels had different offensive philosophies.
  8. Everybody on the board? I didn't. I could care less about antics during pressers; what matters is results on the field.
  9. Who would choose a broken Wentz and a washed Ryan? They had better not been his first choice. Sometimes you still have to deal with what you got though. Unfortunately there aren't enough young potentially elite QBs to go around, much less elite ones.
  10. Not to totally disagree, but they added a bunch of pieces, especially to their receiving corps. I heard the talk. Plenty of people chose them to miss the Super Bowl this year and to possibly be even third in the division. Plenty of people were questioning Mahomes' supremacy as the best QB in the league before the season and during the season. They may be blowing it up, but there was plenty of fuel for them during the offseason and after to form a chip on their shoulder.
  11. If Reich "really liked" Carr, then I suspect that Carr would've been here already. I doubt that he is our first choice, and it appears that we definitely aren't his first choice. As in "been here", I mean interviewed.
  12. I'd just like to add this quote here as well. Before we started this season, the AFC West said we were rebuilding," Mahomes told the fans at the rally. "I'm going to be honest with you -- I don't know what rebuilding means! In our rebuilding year we're world champs." https://www.nfl.com/news/chiefs-qb-patrick-mahomes-sends-message-to-doubters-in-our-rebuilding-year-we-re To the victor goes the right to talk sh¡t...especially when it's true.
  13. I'd be surprised if he said that. Tepper was very direct about us having to be able to use our resources more efficiently. The days of being loosey-goosey with our real capital (i.e. cap space) and draft capital are done. If you're going to do it, you better be wise and judicious about it, or you may find yourself out of a job.
  14. Honestly, I can't say that we've ever done anything but get lucky in regards to ID-ing talent or assessing strengths and weaknesses, but admittedly I'm probably being cynical. Never two winning seasons in a row breeds cynicism though.
  15. My bad. That's what I meant. I was trying to rush before the edit function was disabled.
  16. Damn, that was a slip of the finger. Edit: OK here is the express version. KC had a really good draft, really good scouting, really good team building, and key production from key rookies. In short, the GM knows what he's doing, and of course the HC has maybe the best feel for using his pieces and getting them involved in the game (and flow of the game that I've maybe ever seen). "From first-rounder Trent McDuffie and George Karlaftis to seventh-rounders Jaylen Watson and Isiah Pacheco, Kansas City got a score of hefty contributions from its youngsters this past season -- along with a nod to the club's dynastic hopes ahead." https://www.nfl.com/news/chiefs-super-bowl-success-started-with-historic-2022-draft-class I'd also add that the FA addition Kadarius Toney was excellent!
  17. Depends on the longer term plan.
  18. This too! https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/2023/02/19/panthers-saints-jets-derek-carr-team-odds/ Panthers Tumble, Saints and Jets Rise in Derek Carr Team Odds
  19. This feels fitting for this thread.
  20. Flacco needs to retire...for real. We have McCown, we don't need Flacco on the field or off.
  21. I'd rather have Minshew than Carr straight-up. Minshew is younger, arguably a better passer, and won't cost an arm and a leg. Similar results for a fraction of the price!
  22. All I can tell you is that Rappaport knows his stuff, and he hasn't given me any reason not to believe that he does not. A man who is broke (but estimated to be worth $500 mil) doesn't buy WNBA franchises or ultra-expensive mansions. Like Rapp Sheet said, it's about the belifef that McDaniels and the GM can right the ship. And, like it or not, part of righting the ship is dumping Carr.
  23. How can anyone not be excited about the staff? Wilks' staff would likely have been a lot different (particularly void of Evero for Holcombe). Honestly, I kind of shudder at the thought. But, I guess we wouldn't have missed what we never had. It would have been a pity though, seeing all that I see now.
