Let's remember Gettleman tried to be crafty and send Beane away with McDermott to the AFC as a package deal in hopes of not handing over the keys to Beane. Gettleman got fired for that right after the draft.

Downfalls? You have to be competitive quickly to have a downfall. If you're not a dynasty, you'll have 2 or 3 down seasons in a decade. Capers was 1 year. Seifert was 1 year. Fox was 2009 and a forced lame duck year. That's 4 seasons in 16 seasons. Tepper has strung together all 4 of those seasons from 2019 to 2022. Doesn't appear to be changing anytime soon. Hope we see the signs from Reich & his foundation of players soon. If the Panthers could have a 1995, 1999, or 2008 season the fan base would be excited. May even be happy with a 1997, 2000, and 2006 season. If Reich could have a first season like Capers, Seifert, and Fox you'd be touting Reich as a superstar coach. Those seasons were not pathetic. Pathetic is 5 straight seasons with the best highlight being an interim HC pushing for the playoffs & being released for a coach that can't be competitive with an entire offseason. Still an outside shot at a 7 to 8 win season. We'll soon see if Reich can go 8-6 in the next 14 games.

Championship teams are not built over a while. They are built by people who know NFL success and talent. They may take 1 or 2 seasons max to be playoff level, but you will see their young talent show winning drives on the field (about 6 to 10 players to start in year 1). When you are not seeing this from the young players and say it will take a while, you are saying the team should scrap it and start again because they're going nowhere in the next 3 to 5 years. No reason to go from a 7+ win team under a capable coach thrown into the fire to worst in the NFL. If what Wilks did was not enough to keep him, why is keeping another coach who can't do the same or better reasonable? Why not give Wilks 2 more seasons to prove success? Reich is not a better coach than Wilks or Rivera. None of them are championship head coach material. Most of us already know what to expect from Rivera & Reich. Wilks is the unknown who should get a couple years to show he can beat the best coaches in the NFL. Rivera & Reich got that opportunity already & their ceiling is known.

The Panthers have been exciting to watch and competitive from 1995 to 2017. It all came to an end when the core of Cam Newton, Jonathan Stewart, Greg Olsen, Ryan Kalil, Luke Kuechly, Thomas Davis & Charles Johnson reached the end following 2017. CMC was the only player added to the core that had leader/playmaker ability since the 2012 offseason. The Panthers went from adding 1 to 2 core leaders/playmakers every season to adding 1 core leader/playmaker in a decade. This is the problem that has compounded since 2013. Need a flow of leaders & playmakers to keep it going. The problem does not appear to be corrected with the 2023 draft. Not elevating Brandon Beane in 2013 is clearly the downfall.

Just Moton and Bozeman who are above average pass blockers. Bozeman can't help both guards. They seem to be asking Ekwonu to help inside and kick out while he struggle to pass block for himself. Not going to be good for developing routes. Going to have to go to max pro help
