  1. Somebody here wanted Jaquez, have to say he looked pretty good in his summer league debut.
  2. Just a quick explanation cause I’m bored. - A player under 25 must sign an ELC Two-Way contract as their first NHL contract. The number of years of the contract is determined by the players age. Mendel is 24 so his ELC is only one year. The Two-Way contract allows Carolina to transfer him down to Chicag… I mean wherever, without any repercussions regarding the salary cap. - Waiver exemption is a little different and a player can be waiver exempt even if they aren’t on their ELC anymore. It’s tough to explain and the best thing to do is to just use the waiver calculator. As mentioned above, Kochetkov is waiver exempt but if we send him down we still get hit with a percentage of his cap because he’s no longer on a two-way. For anyone interested, here’s the waiver calculator. https://www.capfriendly.com/waivers-calculator/pyotr-kochetkov
  3. Yeah capfriendly is good with the numbers but they don’t know exactly who and who won’t make the team. Mendel, Rees, Ponomarev, and Suzuki all have two-way’s meaning they can be sent down without counting toward the cap and all are waiver exempt. Kochetkov is the only question mark not on an ELC and while he is waiver exempt and can be sent down, we get hit with a buried penalty if we do send him down.
  4. Also haven’t heard anything on that front either. I’m open to moving him in the right package for a forward.
  5. Pono, I don’t want him to just sit in the press box. If he makes the team he needs to play consistently, or at least rotate with Drury.
  6. Hopefully we get to see Brandon Miller in a couple hours.
  7. Echoing the sentiment that I don’t want DeBrincat. Good player but we have enough small players.
  8. He might stick but if he doesn’t play consistently then the Canes need to find a spot for him to play this year. It would not be helpful for him to just sit in the press box.
  9. Capfriendly has Rees, Ponomarev, and Suzuki on the roster, take them off and The Canes have closer to $5M in cap space. Not to mention, Mendel signed an ELC and all ELC’s are two-ways, the Canes will find a place for him to play and he won’t count against the cap.
  10. I thought as far as a USMNT game goes the atmosphere looked great, albeit I was watching from my couch.
  11. It was pretty damn funny to watch guys play long balls and the ball just checkup. The ball barely rolled unless guys absolutely drilled their passes.
  12. So I’ve seen a few interesting tidbits. - In regards to Orlov, his camp actually reached out to us. Pretty crazy how far we’ve come where top end guys now want to play for us. - The Canes among other teams are pissed out how little the cap rose this year and they are trying the best they can to add more pieces. - The Canes were in on Bertuzzi, and it may have been a similar deal to what he got in Toronto. There also may still be interest in Tarasenko.
  13. Agreed, I’m tired of rushing our guys. Freddie gets a lot of poo for sitting out but that man is the poster child for coming back when he feels he’s ready. And it paid off during the playoffs, he was great.
  14. No worries, now if the cap doesn’t go up like everyone expects then next year gets crazy. Apparently teams (Carolina included) are already pissed it only went up $1M this season.
  15. It’s not counting on your defense to score, it’s wanting your defense to be able to score. I don’t know if Skjei will ever have a season like he did last year again and Pesce isn’t exactly an offensive defenseman. The hope is that if you put an offensive defenseman with a defensive defenseman that they will balance each other out. Karlsson and TDA should also help the PP because they are elite puck movers. The fanbase has been going bat poo crazy over our dumpy power play for the past year, well Karlsson and TDA should be able to help that.
  16. Aho is already under contract this year so this years cap space doesn’t matter, it’s next years that we are looking at. Teuvo comes off the board next year and the cap is projected to rise by about $4M. So there’s Aho’s $9.5M.
  17. I think it’s obvious what the Canes are doing. We need more offense and defensemen spend more time on the ice than forwards, it’s just a fact. If you have a guy like Burns, Karlsson, and DeAngelo on each pairing then you have a guy that can get you 50 points. Those three aren’t exactly stalwarts defensively but the hope is that if you pair them with a Slavin, Orlov, and Chatfield that they will be successful. GMDW has done a good job of reworking the team so if we acquire both Karlsson and TDA, I’ll hold my judgment until I see what the team looks like on opening night.
  18. Just did a little more math on it and I guess the Canes could make it work. Without Rees, Ponomarev, and Suzuki counting toward the cap, the Canes have around $5.3M in cap space. If we got Karlsson at $6.5M and Pesce was included in the deal then we’d have $2.8M in cap space left. The Canes could then complete the TDA deal and then move Skjei for forward help or move him for picks and prospects and then sign Tarasenko with a $5M AAV. The Canes would also probably need to pull Coghlan’s QO so that we’d have around $1M to play with in regards to call-ups. The Canes could also put Svechnikov on LTIR to start the season so that Rees, Ponomarev, and Suzuki can all suit up for the Canes if need be. The following team would have about $1M in cap space for call-up’s: Bunting - Aho - Tarasenko Svechnikov - Kotkaniemi - Necas Martinook - Staal - Fast Noesen - Drury - Teravainen Slavin - Burns Orlov - Karlsson Chatfield - TDA Andersen Raanta
  19. So San Jose is willing to retain $3M on Karlsson. Just my own speculation but I doubt the Hurricanes want Karlsson at more than $6.5M. So either 1) San Jose would have to retain more or 2) the Canes would need to find a third team and 3) Pesce would definitely be included in the deal. Karlsson at $6.5M would effectively take up all of our cap space and we could no longer add TDA. Additionally, we probably couldn’t add another forward because Skjei would be needed since we wouldn’t be able to acquire TDA, meaning we couldn’t trade Skjei for forward help. The team would probably be: Bunting - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - Kotkaniemi - Necas Martinook - Staal - Fast Noesen - Drury - Teravainen Rees/Ponomarev/Suzuki Slavin - Burns Orlov - Karlsson Skjei - Chatfield Coghlan Andersen Raanta Kochetkov
  20. Saw a report that the offer sheet would be for the full MLE. Looks like this might happen.
  21. Anyone going to the game tonight? You’ll get to see a natural phenomenon, grass BofA.
