Canes Vs Blue Jackets 7pm Puck Drop
MillionDollarCam replied to Panthers Fan 69's topic in Carolina Hurricanes
So it doesn’t appear that Coghlan is hurt, RBA said it was a tough decision and they decided to go with Chatfield. Think it could be partly because Chatfield is a better pure defender than Coghlan and Bear. RBA also said that there will be a lot of rotation at that position. Columbus has a lot of firepower so RBA might want the best defensive defenseman out there. Coghlan definitely has a place on this team though, he’s going to be a real good third pairing, puck moving defenseman and PP QB2. -

Think they are hanging the Metro banner tonight too, so expect a later puck drop. -

Opening night so I feel like it’ll be closer to 7:30PM with all the pregame announcements and festivities. Anywho, no Merzlikins tonight for CBJ, he’s out with an illness. -
2022-23 Carolina Hurricanes Opening Night Roster

One thing I missed here, the Canes have indeed decided to put Patches on LTIR. Originally it was believed that they weren’t, but ultimately that’s where Patches ended up. Drury is now able to move freely between Chicago and Carolina as long as another player gets put on waivers as the Canes are already at the max roster size (23). -

Completely forgot that Vegas added Hotdog Kessel… also our old pal, Nic Roy, has carved out a nice role for himself in Vegas. The Canes shipped Roy to Vegas for Haula (boooo) a few years ago. -

Interested in watching LA, they play hard and they added Fiala in the offseason which should certainly help their offense. Maybe they can sneak into the playoffs as a wild card team. -

Also, hot take, without Shesterkin, Rangers are only a fringe top 10 team. Gallant has them playing better than they are and obviously having Shesterkin is a massive benefit. -

Rangers are definitely one of my least favorite teams… all their fans that moved to Cary come out of the wood works when the Rags are in town and they act like it’s their home arena. I’ve gotten into my fair share of shouting matches with their fans. -

Well… New York looks like they are going to open up with a win. -
For sure, but I think @Anybodyhome pointed out that over the past few years we have only carried seven defenseman and in an absolute worst case scenario we can always bring Lajoie up. I just don’t think the Canes are enamored with carrying a $2.2M defenseman that isn’t playing.

That’s what journalism has become now a days… about making people look stupid or trying to get them to admit they were wrong. Doesn’t mean that the questions aren’t technically valid… but I think we can all fill in the blanks and don’t need Tepper to explicitly tell us when he decided to fire Rhule.
-
I for one… did not want him back on a 7 year deal, 5 years at the absolute max.

A friend of mine mentioned something similar, he has a few inside sources but it’s rarely ground breaking info (like the info that the defunct Twitter account was giving us). But basically my buddy said that going after KK was all about Trocheck, they (the Canes) knew early that when his (Trocheck’s) contract was up, that he was gone.

I mean if anyone knows what a good manager looks like it’s Fuchs… coming over as an EPL champion, he knows exactly how a team should be run. Charlotte was a mess from the get go, a lot of transfers fell through, the team president left, MAR was in way over his head (the MLS is one of the more difficult soccer leagues to coach in because they have some wacky organizational rules), and there was a disconnect between a lot of the players and MAR. Lattanzio did a great job filling in and once he found his group of guys toward the end of the season, the team started getting results. All this to say, I think Tepper should be involved in the process of hiring the coaches for his respective teams, after all, he bought the teams. But at the end of the day (shoutout Matt Rhule), people are in place who know more than him about the sport that he is… just a fan of… at some point he needs to let the people who know football run the football team (both football teams). Fowler should have taken the high road but in reality, his questions were valid… why is there so much turnover between all of Tepper’s organizations when the only common denominator is… Tepper.

Nino is a favorite of mine, I expect he’ll get a nice video tribute and standing O from the crowd, and he deserves it, wish him nothing but the best (except when he plays us). -
Fuchs was never absent and Swiderski was on international duty…. not sure where you got the idea that the team captain bailed on training… but that didn’t happen. Fuchs obviously didn’t agree with the way that MAR managed the team but like I said, MAR had his fair share of supporters. And as I previously mentioned, a lot of the riff came from the budget. MAR wanted better players and Krneta and Tepper told him that there was a budget. Relieving MAR of his duties and replacing him with Lattanzio was the right choice but not all of your facts are accurate. And as I said before, Tepper and Krneta deserve the blame for hiring MAR in the first place. MAR hadn’t lasted more than two years in any of previous managerial positions, so why exactly would Tepper and Krneta think he would in Charlotte…

There’s the Stamkos one-timer snapshot, glad that Svech has added that to his arsenal. -

It’s refreshing how honest hockey coaches are in their interviews… I think the best in game interviews probably come from hockey coaches. -

Speaking of Jarvis (and Brayden Point who made a nice move there), that’s who Jarvis said he models his game after (though Jarvis no longer plays center). If Jarvis gives us Brayden Point type production then I’ll be ecstatic. -

That hit on Jarvis was total BS.
