Just because a city is building or it’s becoming better doesn’t mean it’s a great city. In my opinion Chapel Hill is pound for pound a better city than Durham considering all things.

As a business city it’s fine but that doesn’t mean to much to me as I’m blessed to not have to worry about that. The overall city landscape just doesn’t seem to provide much. It’s similar to Raleigh for me I guess.

My God dude… get a grip. Act like an adult or gtfo.

And my question isn’t trying to be rude, I drive through quite often and it doesn’t look like much. Just curious as to what the is to actually do?

What does Greensboro have?

I drove down to visit some family in Tampa… I’ll say I made it a point not to stop in Daytona, just waited until we got to Orlando. I also don’t know what the hell a buckey’s is but apparently everyone loves it.

Not sure about the drugs, a good friend of mine bought a house there right before covid hit. He could flip that thing now and probably make close to an 80% profit. Hopefully it always keeps that small beach town vibe. I’d hate to see it become something like Daytona in 50 years time.

Asheville is great. Family lives up on one of the mountains in Black Mtn. and it’s really nice. Great food, fishing, breweries, outdoor life, golf is really good. Just a solid town.

It has more going for it, it’s not just a place you go to get a beer, and as far as violent crime it’s pretty minimal. If you’re goal is to get a beer every night and go to a show then maybe Durham is for you but overall that’s not my scene, though I do enjoy a good beer. Then when you couple that with there being quite a few areas that you don’t want to be in… it’s just not my scene. But for people that it that’s great.

I should say the surrounding areas of Wilmington. Their downtown does suck but the areas around like Southport are really neat.

And it’s still part of the city…. Which is the point that everyone is missing. For what it’s worth Chapel Hill in its entirety is a nicer area than Durham even if Durham has the cool and vibrant art scene and bars because it’s catered to 30+ where Chapel Hill is catered to 18 to 29.

There’s not much going for it all. Durham is trying to build itself up, obviously Charlotte is Charlotte, Raleigh is meh, Wilmington and Asheville are probably the nicest cities in NC.

The city and surrounding areas of Asheville have more diversity then the triangle combined… we just prefer our “violent” crime to be linked to potheads rather than gangs… enjoy your Durham.. you are one of the few.

His post was also wrong… and this is just a sample. Per 100,000 Greensboro - 530 Durham - 439 Goldsboro - 414 Greenville - 362 Asheville - 316 I get it, you live in Durham and are upset that your city struggles with violence outside of a few areas… you continue to strive to be a little Charlotte.

I’ll give him props for living in Greensboro for a year because for my money it’s the worst city in NC.

I do not live in Charlotte… I’m outside of Asheville (which the city itself is a lot like Durham with all the bums). And anytime you are linked with Fayetteville, Greensboro, and Goldsboro, Rocky Mount, etc… it ain’t great.
