If you recall last year's draft video, the team agrees.

An excerpt that caught my attention regarding how the Panthers are thinking about quarterbacks right now... “When we went back, we loved the way that he played. His release. His moxie,” Panthers coach Matt Rhule said. “He’s gotten injured a little bit because he runs guys over. Or he tries to run guys over. But I think at the end of the day, it’s still a game of who has the ability to throw the ball. And we just love the way that he throws the football. His release. His vision. His timing. And we thought it would translate over to this level.” Heaven knows I'm not a fan of Matt Rhule, but I agree with this.

Outside of his love for old Temple and Baylor guys (and the dumbass "short arms" thing) personnel hasn't been the primary issue. The problem is that he still coaches like a college coach, and that just doesn't work at the pro level. In order to believe that Rhule is going to be successful, you've gotta buy in to the idea that he can learn to be a pro coach. For me, it's not just that I don't buy that idea. It's that I'm really not interested in employing a head coach who has to learn his job to the level that Rhule does.

Peter King says maybe Brees to Panthers?????

I always question whether super successful guys at one place can duplicate that success in another. A lot of times, lightning in a bottle doesn't travel with you. -
Is the "Legion of Boom" approach obsolete?

Speaking of DBs... If the Panthers want to re-sign Jaycee Horn beyond his rookie contract, the numbers by that time could be... substantial. -
Burns hasn't been at OTAs. Reports make it sound like it's something personal and not related to the team.

Obviously he'd fit the system, but even the article admits this is all pure speculation. I can't see it. -
You know why that's not going to happen

The Panthers have a long tradition of taking the wrong guy, starting all the way back with preferring Kerry Collins over Steve McNair. You had Tshimanga Biakabutuka over Eddie George, DeShaun Foster over Clinton Portis, Jason Peter over Vonnie Holliday, Rae Carruth over... anybody. But you bring up a valid point. Perhaps it's not so much the picks were making as it is the team itself. Maybe at least some of these guys might have turned out better had they gone elsewhere.
-
You ever been reported to yourself?
-
Remember the story that the Panthers were considered the least "merit-based" team in the league when it came to playing time? Likewise the saying that we had guys starting on our roster who wouldn't even make a team elsewhere? That's why something like this gets said.

To be fair, even in GM centric operations, head coaches still control the depth chart. I do but in to the idea that Fitterer had increased influence over the offseason personnel process this year. Have a hard time imagining him making playing time decisions though.

Perhaps you should post an excerpt of your own to show what you feel is the point, Chuck. -
I have a feeling that Brady deal is gonna turn out to be a disaster of epic proportions.
-
Kevin Greene had the same issue. Super charismatic guy in life. On TV though, just never looked comfortable.
-
Didn't we just extend him?
-
Thomas has shown that he can stop himself from getting to the first down marker.

Guess the next natural question is how good will Payton be in his gig. With him though, I think everybody pretty much expects it to be temporary.
-
Last year there would have been an obvious option in Brian Daboll. And of course I was a big fan of Nathaniel Hackett. This year, I guess we'll have to see what names emerge.

Don't worry. Nah
