Ask the Saints if it's still a myth.

fuging Thomas 2.0. WTF
-
Not sure I agree. I could technically kick the poo out of you and get less tims than if I just grabbed you by the throat. To that point, and I do realize that this is a pretty big outlier and not anything close to this thread, but I could choke you out as a trained martial artist, causing basically no harm but it would be a more serious crime than if I landed a roundhouse kick to your dome that left you with a TBI.

It's a bad year for drafting a center, hence why we probably did this.
-
fug that bitch too.

I mean, I guess in fairness to Geno I would be pissed about being valued less than Prescott, Love, Lawrence, Tua, Goff, Murray, Watson and Cousins. In fairness to Seattle, I don't think I would want to have a $45+ mil Smith on my roster.
-
I don’t even remember him being traded as recent speculation by media outlets. I think that was fairly surprising.
-
Well also keep in mind that the Bengals are letting his camp go get trade offers. Remains to be seen if his camp has interest in us.

Now you say Reid but Andy Reid didn't have Super Bowl success until Mahomes. But he was always among the leagues best. That's why I never understood the false narrative about Carroll changing. He changed some over time to adjust to differences in personnel but he did that at USC too. He didn't "change" as a HC at USC either after the early titles. Similar to Seattle he was still extremely successful until the very end. It's just hard to win all the time. Especially in the NFL. Hell, Brady and Belichick had a 9 year drought(0-2 in SB) before they got back to winning titles. It just happens. For all we know Reid never wins another one(I wouldn't bet on it but it is possible). Again, I just don't agree with the "it changed him" narrative that people like to push. There has never been any indication he changed at all. He just never reached the Super Bowl again. That is also possible that happens if they did win that game.
-
The stats don't really bear that out. He had a better overall winning percentage with Seattle after that game than he did before that game. I think people forget how good Seattle was during the post Super Bowl loss era. It was just that they never got as close again in the postseason. They remained a power team up until 2021, which people also forget(odd considering we faced them several times in that span). Nothing changed with him as a coach, the situations in Seattle changed(OC's, DC's, personnel, etc). They just were never able to re-capture that same Super Bowl magic.

I wouldn't gamble on a big extension for an EDGE that hasn't proved he is worth it. We aren't exactly overflowing with cap space. The Johnson pick is just one of so many New Browns blunders over the past several years. I am eventually going to get numb to them.
-
He was the same coach, they just started to not be able to keep that elite team together over time and not do as good of a job replacing them.
-
I mean I have always viewed Barno as a special teams player and Johnson was a complete joke of a selection. I never understood the fascination people had with them. I would not offer Wonnum any sort of extension because he hasn't shown any indication of being worth anything more than a backup role. If he changes that next season, then you have that discussion.

Mike Garafolo: Panthers are in on DK Metcalf trade
kungfoodude replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Well wouldn't the better idea be to just get better at drafting? -
It's amazing that he is older than Belichick. He looks 15 years younger.
-
Well, there is just no reason to spend a wild amount of money on an older player at this point. By the time we MIGHT be competitive, he will be nearing the end of his career. If it's an older, capable player on a reasonable deal(Clowney, AT) then I am all for it. But we should be trying to stay relatively young and build a core for future success. I mean right now our core is quite literally just Brown. Maybe Hubbard, Horn, Ikey, Bryce and some of the other guys eventually become that but at the moment he is literally the only core member of this entire roster. Gotta fix that first.
-
It's definitely not better than Carroll but it is comparable. Pretty similar overall success and stats. But, he is also likely going to end up a HOF caliber coach unless he shits the bed(God we all hope) in Denver. Dan just looked too much like Fitterer last offseason in the draft. I think he did okay in free agency but we all know that isn't a path to success. I fear we are going to blow up the cap in free agency and then crap our pants in the draft.
-
Well, we do need more than one guy. We probably realistically need at least 2-3 DE/EDGE guys. We aren't going to be able to solve that in one draft for sure.
-
I think the rub was comparing a career under .500 HC to a guy that is a HOF head coach. That math don't math, no matter how many variables you add to the equation. Then you go and compare him to one of the worst HC's in NFL history(literally by winning percentage this is accurate) in Matt Rhule. Doug Pederson is a pretty good comp for Ron. Both went to a SB, Doug just happened to win his. Both under .500 career winning percentage. Doug has an advantage in total winning seasons over his career but also only had 1 double digit winning season in his career. Now had you made that comp, I wouldn't have had to point out how incredibly stupid it was. Also, if you had done the same if this was about Tomlin or Jim Harbaugh or literally any actually good coach(fug, I might have even had to defend.....shudder....Sean Payton) with a literal "top 10 in their era" resume I would have also continued to dunk all over your comparison(s). I am not emotionally attached to the argument outside I think it's one of the worst series of comparisons I have ever seen here. For Canales, he is better than I expected. I suspect he will have some moderate success elsewhere when he inevitably gets fired for not being able to muster a winning season with some of the worst rosters in the history of the franchise. He would have to really lay and egg over the next season and whatever portion of the following season he gets for me to think he will be largely to blame. Sort of the same way a lot of us felt about Joe Brady taking the fall for the messes Rhule made.
-
I would need a price tag. I am down with the player, just needs to be at a reasonable price. That's sort of been the downside of Reddick in general. Always wants significantly more than actual market value.
-
Well, Darnold also showed who he REALLY was in the end, however. I suspect his next stop he will be an unmitigated disaster because he won't have the safety nets that he had nor the wunderkind HC. He will always be the same player, million dollar talent and a ten cent head.
-
I think he will be relatively successful. Probably in the 8-11 win range for the most part. I don't see the makings of any deep playoff runs there. But despite the perception of that being a stellar division, the Broncos are suspect, as are the Chargers. Great coaches but the rosters are pretty flawed, which is the same way I view the Carroll/Geno Raiders.
