Division games are weird and imo unpredictable. I don't really expect us to win but Bryce should still be able to have a decent game given their D. If he falls back to his version of earth, though, he'll probably lose me, because the highs haven't been that high. Canales though has shown me enough to be excited for year 2 basically regardless (assuming wheels not falling off etc)

LAST MINUTE: Panthers get back big-time pass rusher

He's got some ugly balls and he's got some crazy good ones. Several of his KC throws were intense and he's had a decent number of difficult throws he's made the last few weeks. I think a lot of people see "rainbows" and believe it's poorly thrown. That's not necessarily true.
-
PFF has it's problems for sure, but their grades aren't really spontaneously made up for Bryce lol Going into next season with Bryce alone based on these games would be idiotic, but so too is judging him based on his career to date and not seeing what the rest of the season holds. His last few games have been decent to good... So we shall see. We need a competition in camp no matter what.

In some ways, He Hate Me was a bit of a Panthers legend haha. I think my issue is using the legend term, not the players they're highlighting.
-
Will he keep this up? Who knows. He's had a few decent and one good game. If he keeps trending in this direction I think we go with a veteran and late round development QB if one falls we really like. If he reverts back to early season play, I wouldn't mind earlier investment in a QB because he has had a lot of time to show consistency.

Crazy when Bryce Young has a deeper depth of pass than a dude with Waddle and Hill...

Chris Long: Bryce Young Went Toe To Toe With Patrick Mahomes
mav1234 replied to Icege's topic in Carolina Panthers
Those are all good guesses. I wonder if they include incomplete passes, where it isn't on the QB. I wish they'd publish what the big time passes were. It's helpful to learn their methods. Thanks for checking for us -
They don't care. There's a difference between intentionally trying to lose for draft position (tanking) and being so awful your entire team stops trying to win.
-
McCarthy is thinking playoffs somehow I think, lol
-
For sure. I think Burns on an already very good defense would be a really exciting player. But he's just not consistent enough, especially in the run game. A good enough D could make up for that a little... In an average or bad D he's just a liability on a lot of plays.
-
My suspicion is that he'll be more consistent as an overall player but have fewer splash plays.
-
To me, tanking is deliberately losing for draft position. That isn't what appears to be happening - Daboll knows he's about to lose his job and his players just don't give a poo lol
-
Everyone quitting is not tanking, lol.
-
They're just this bad. Daboll is fuging atrocious and the team is abysmal. Dabolls job is on the line... They've quit. This isn't even tanking, they just have no talent left... Their best player may be Brian Burns and we all remember how that goes lol.

Watching Giants players just throw themselves in the vicinity of a rusher and not even try to tackle. Lol

The Giants games are an interesting comparison for sure. We could compare the Chiefs vs the Bucs as well, since at least both teams are largely the same as they are now, rather than the Giants whose coach lost his mind after losing to us. 30-24 KC in overtime. Hunt had 106 yards and Mahomes had 291. Baker threw for 200 yards, but 2 TDs. Their leading rusher had 25 yards or something. Our offense outperformed what the Bucs did vs KC, but being a division game we won't have the benefit of being overlooked. If our D plays how it did in the 4th quarter I think we can get some stops. Can Bryce carry a second game? I'd rather not find out and have Chuba carry the load, but we'll see.

Veteran backup over like a 6 year career on a team expected to compete in the playoffs vs a 2nd year dude on a team expected to have the first draft pick next year and you're comparing wins and losses lol. Anyway, in his last 4 starts BY has more TDs, more yards passing, and a higher completion percentage than Rush. I wouldn't bet much on either of them ATM though lol. Unless they're playing the Giants...

Chris Long: Bryce Young Went Toe To Toe With Patrick Mahomes

I'm not surprised to see that relative ranking after watching other teams this year a lot. Passing is way down. I wonder if @Icege (I think you had the more thorough pff breakdown, sorry if not) has access to what they're calling the big time throws -

The average number of passing TDs is less than two per game (1.4).. So his passing TDs was average that game, but the offense he lead scored 5 more points than the league average and the Bills were the only team to score more points vs the Chiefs this year. The performance just wasn't average overall, but it was just one game. -
Cooper Rush is a veteran backup, isn't he? He's not comparable to BY... And anyway, Washington has a pretty meh defense this year. Still a good game. HOU, well, that was on 55 attempts, lol. Couple of decent games from him. We'll get to see him soon lol

260 yards is not a median level of production this year. The average per game is 216 passing yards and the Bengals are the only team in the NFL with more than 260 passing yards per game (262). I'm not going to bother calculating the median because it definitely won't be 260. It's fine to temper expectations as 260 yards is still just from one game, but let's not pretend it is just median production. -

I do think it's best not to get excited - as you highlight, we've seen great games here and there from otherwise mediocre QBs. But, it's also important to remember the context. That was one of CMC's many combined 100+ yard games for us (close to 150 with 2 total TDs if I recall). While a lot of us acknowledge TB was a decent veteran but not the answer, the point was he WAS a veteran and by the end of that season we knew his ceiling. The hope with Bryce is he continues to grow. Worth taking a look at how different the passing charts are, too... All but 8 throws basically within 5 yards of the LoS. 8 throws beyond 10 yards, and with 49 attempts! vs Only 4 of BY's throws were behind the LoS, Nearly half his passes were beyond 10 yards. Just a very different depth of target selection. Bryce was threatening all over the field. Fwiw, Bryce's TD % this year is pretty close to Teddy's that year - but that's including the two terrible games he started. Over the last 4 games, he's above it, so let's see if he can keep that up.- 113 replies

I think a big difference between players and fans is that we're most impressed by those crazy passes that seem thrown like missiles for 30 yards down the field. BY can't really do that... Instead, he throws with anticipation, where he's throwing the ball before a receiver is anywhere near where the route finishes (this alone isn't that uncommon). But when and how he does that is really impressive I think, and what a lot of former players are commenting on. With that kind of passing you have to be decisive, which he finally has been the last few games. -
I would have loved to get more from Diontae but it was clear he was done here.
