  1. An LOL from conversations with others: Them: How big is Bryce? Me: Around 5' 10", probably 120 lbs [laughs] T: No way, he's gotta be 6' 2". [ checks wikipedia ] holy cow, he is 5' 10". Maybe 5' 11" with pads on. Me: The jokers online say he'll need a step stool to see over the center T: So what do you figure, the Panthers tried to win a super bowl with a #1 draft pick in Cam who was a pretty imposing player on the field... and they said, well, that didn't work so let's try the exact opposite player size with your next #1 pick?
  2. From an 8/21 Sports Illustrated piece. To me, shows Frank (and others) are looking at things more realistically than not https://www.si.com/nfl/2023/08/21/bryce-young-preseason-impressing-coaches-teammates
  3. Regarding YouTube's expected streaming quality: while the NFL content won't be in 4K (because it's not filmed in 4K, and upscaling is a pain in the butt), YouTube will be streaming in 1080p HD. While both FOX and CBS film in 1080p, but they don't broadcast at that level. FOX broadcasts in 720p, while CBS does 1080i HD.
  4. Looking to save $100 and haven't yet signed up for Sunday Ticket? FanDuel is offering offer a promotional discount. From now through Sept 18, new FanDuel customers who place a $5 bet will receive $200 in bonus bets and $100 off the Sunday Ticket and/or other YouTube TV setups. Existing customers who bet $5 will also receive $100 off the NFL Sunday Ticket.
  5. Sunday Ticket typically does not air any pre-season games. This coming Saturday, however, YT will air three different 1p games as a final "before the season starts" test to ensure things are working as expected between their platform and the broadcast partners. So if you're looking to test out your recently-purchased Sunday Ticket program and your A/V setup, you'll have an opportunity on Saturday to see how it goes before the season starts.
  6. ROKU will be airing THE PICK IS IN, a documentary about this year's draft. If there was a VCR option for the Roku Channel, I'd say "set your VCR to record it on Aug 25th" From the press release: Film crews are embedded in the draft rooms of the Cowboys, Panthers, Colts, and Jaguars across all seven rounds of the NFL draft Let's see if the documentary crew shows us anything different that didn't come from Panthers social/comm team already...
  7. watched the first two drives (will zip through the rest later) Liked seeing Bryce have some time in the pocket. Yes, he overthrew a few players - but was that an issue with Bryce or blown coverage or something else? Liked seeing the refs call a Roughing the Passer on the Giants. Can't recall the last time Carolina was on the beneficial end of a Roughing penalty. Based solely on the few plays I watched -- things looked significantly better than last week. Are there still improvements to be made? YES. Did we make progress this past week? DEFINITELY
  8. AH, TiVo's "suggestions" menu option was fantastic. I see you've enjoyed watching/recording Panthers games. Here's an ESPN special on the Panthers you may not have seen, so I'll record that for you just in case.
  9. *store programs up to 9 months before automatic deletion.
  10. Streaming will always be behind Broadcast. The question for YouTube is "how much?" Will it be 60s+ behind the updates on the Huddle and Twitter/Bluesky? Or something closer to realtime to not be entirely noticeable?
  11. Not as a temporary change, no. And it sounds like there's a cross-ref between home market/zip/IP address to verify that you are where you say you are. And you have to log in (regularly) from that same combination to keep the connection/setting active.
  12. I wouldn't recommend it, unless you want Charlotte TV full time. Per Google, once you enter your home ZIP that's it. (you can change your home ZIP twice a year... and you have to physically be in the home area to update to a different ZIP)
  13. Police are going after illegal streamers -- this one was in Argentina and was brought down by DirecTV recently. https://torrentfreak.com/digital-tv-raided-by-cybercrime-unit-following-directv-iptv-piracy-complaint-230721/ They recognize that it's a bit of whack-a-mole, and taking out one provider doesn't make a dent. But, as we saw with the rise of Apple Music, Spotify, Pandora, etc vs using Limewire or Napster --- if you make legal content easily accessible and (comparatively) inexpensive.... the majority of consumers will stop pirating content Changing from the audience-specific DirecTV to a "open for anyone" YouTube solution should result in less pirate streams.
  14. uh..... supposedly? like at the very tail end of the season? Can't find reference to it specifically so maybe that's just a hopeful typo on my part
  15. Not saying this will help or hinder -- but if you're planning on using a home subscription in a commercial environment, there's a possibility you'll be limited to just two streams "outside the home" and Google may have coding in place to identify whether a listed address is a "home" or a "business". I'd be surprised if Google's YouTube product team haven't already thought of all the different ways that streams could be co-opted by folks trying to skirt various rules
  16. There is a chance they'll offer "single game" options LATE in the season, similar to what DirecTV offered. We won't know until it happens so don't hold your breath
  17. The NFL dictated the rule of no Ala Carte option. Likely won't happen anytime soon, especially if YT keeps innovating features to make ST a desired way to watch games
  18. Slight concern about latency delay vs traditional broadcast, but shouldn't be that much worse than DTV was
  19. Google may not care, but the NFL certainly does. It may be rare and a small chance of it happening to you... but there are instances where bars have been cited for airing content illegally. But yes, unlimited is still a thing. Though if they see accounts with (let's say) 20 streams going... that might raise some "is this a business" eyebrows
  20. Monthly payment plans (as opposed to the "pay it all at one time" price that early-adopters had to deal with) Student plans for eligible users Ability to use multiview to watch local-broadcast programs side-by-side with Sunday Ticket broadcasts (YouTube TV subscribers only, which makes sense) "Live Chat and Polls" allowing viewers to react realtime with the on-field action (avail on both mobile and TV devices) "Key Plays" allowing users to quickly catch up on a game that was missed or joined late real-time highlights available in the "shorts" player - right as the action is happening. source: https://blog.youtube/news-and-events/nfl-sunday-ticket-features-guide/
  21. It's airing on HBO this month (at least, saw it in the HBO listings as I scrolled through)
  22. bring out the gilligan hats!
  23. It’s a panthers broadcast. No problem with that
