I thought we addressed a bunch of our needs just as you laid out. But you simply cannot sign a top tier LT which is why its depressing, sad, head scratching (whatever you want to say) that we let Slater pass by. The gap between Horn and the next tier of corners is vastly closer than the top tier of tackles in this draft.

Barring injury there is no way he comes in and beats out Erving. Cosmi needs a lot of coaching.
-
Little is the ultimate risk pick. Nobody knows what you are getting, not a ton of film and coming off the major injury of course. He was knocked for not being strong enough or having enough core strength and that and his timing probably have suffered since he hasnt done anything for 2 years
-
No chance he walks in and starts. He is athletic sure but his technique is brutal. This highlights the good and bad and the bad is a lot. Plus he is more finesse than "I am going to rip your head off"

General Friday Draft Discussion - Rounds 2-3

poo, I would try that. Can't hurt. -
There are tons of developmental guys left. Its just a crap shoot on that level. IMO there were only 2 immediate starters at LT in this draft (maybe 3 with darrisaw, but I am not sure there) and we obviously let one go by to San Diego. Maybe what you posted is our plan, start Erving, hope like hell he doesnt get hurt and then get whoever up to speed ASAP. I will say this, there are a ton of IOL still on the board that can walk in tomorrow and be starters. Our oline situation is dire yet.............but we are really on thin ice if we dont figure out the next 3 rounds.

Opinions..franchise taking Oline in later rounds

We've done the BPA for years and neglected the line. This is exactly the reason why we have crap for a line right now. Sometimes you have to just pick the best tackle on the board. -

He is not a LT on the NFL level. He is a road grading right tackle. great at run blocking -

Yep -
Cosmi’s technique is really really bad. He is a long way to becoming a starter and Dickerson is incredibly injury prone.
-
Yep. This draft isn’t that deep with LT. I tried to tell you guys. Might as well finish up the defense while we can.

Double dip SEC CB's, select Tyson Campbell in round 2

It’s insane right? -
Their are no starters left. The rest have to be developed. There are no plug and play. There were 2 maybe 3 if darrisaw is ready but everyone else has issues.
-
Who you got?
-
How you doing bro? Reality set in yet?
-
Might as well. Like you said there isn’t a starting tackle left on the board.
-
We have to go tackle in the second round, right?

He's just meh From the Athletic: WEAKNESSES: Average athlete by NFL standards...his arm length falls below the threshold for several teams...bad habit of planting his legsand doesn’t always stay accessible with his feet to answer counters...faulty body angles in pass protection...tends to get overaggressive and mistimes his punch, opening rush lanes for defenders...not a strong drive blocker in the run game...struggles to recover after a misstep and committed 14 penalties over his final two seasons in South Bend...doesn’t have proven versatility, playing only left tackle in college. SUMMARY:A three-year starter at Notre Dame, Eichenberg lined up at left tackle in offensive coordinator Tommy Rees’ scheme. He started every game there the last three seasons (2018-20), following in the footsteps of Mike McGlinchey (2016-17), Ronnie Stanley (2014-15) and Zack Martin (2010-13), all first-rounders in the NFL Draft (if Eichenberg is draftedin the first round, Notre Dame will have started a first-round left tackle in 139 of the last 141 games). Eichenberg is a fundamentally minded blocker and stays centered in his pass-sets, allowing his fierce punch and play demeanor to battle defenders. While he plays under control, his mistakes are usually costly, opening rush lanes and lacking the quickness to easily recover. Overall, Eichenberg does not have the athletic traits or length of past Notre Dame tackles, but he is strong at thepoint of attackwith consistent hands, technique and intelligence. Several NFL teams view him best inside at guard. -
How you doing? You going to apologize for showing your ass?
-
They already stated he is the starter at LT
-
Bluff for a trade out, the NFL wasnt in love with Fields as some on here
-
We'll see but one thing is for sure Slater is going to start day 1. The next tier is iffy.
-
Yep, and nobody bit the hook last night.
-
They didnt even go to his 2nd pro day. We didnt want him, Mac and Fields apparently.
-
The odds are stacked against you in finding an all pro LT after the first. None of the guys still left can come in and start. Darnold is fuged

We tried to bluff and it didn’t work
