People acted as if he didn't do any offseason work and just watched Netflix. Let's not pretend that wasn't the case. They spun it as if Bryce watched Netflix all offseason the same way folks have spun the AR quote as if he were saying it's easier to play against NFL players rather than with them.
-
He's being misinterpreted the same way Bryce was when he said he took a week or two off to watch Netflix and decompress. Here's the full clip: He said that he feels like the NFL is easier because everybody is good and trying to stay employed versus being in college and having guys on the field with you that aren't that confident. They don't have to do it all by themselves like in college, they can depend on their teammates in the NFL.

In 2022, drafting #2 overall gets you CJ Stroud instead of Bryce Young. Your turn! How do you get the team to tank?
-
Was curious about this since I've seen a couple of Huddlers (not you) blame the 60+ sacks last season solely on Bryce. For anybody that would like to review all of the plays that Bryce Young has been sacked on this season, click here (NFL Pro, will need an NFL+ account iirc?). 1st sack: Took place in week 1 vs. NO in Q2 with 13:08 remaining in the half on 3rd & 10 from the CAR 41. Ball gets snapped, Saints blitz 7 and the CB comes off of the edge unblocked. Before somebody tries to say that Bryce should've thrown it to Mingo, Mingo didn't turn around for the ball until Bryce was already sacked as he was running a corner route. 2nd sack: Takes place with 1:45 left in the second half. 3rd & 6 from the CAR 19. Saints blitz five and the DB flies passed Robert Hunt untouched for the sack. 3rd sack: Comes @ 5:49 in Q3. 2nd & 3 from NO 3. Bryce has to scramble to the left as nobody is open to the right and there are defender in the backfield. Scrambles OB at the 3 but they credit it as a sack for Demario Davis who chased him out. Can't blame Bryce for this one as Diontae was casually strolling into his break when the defenders collapsed the right side. 4th sack: 12:14 left in the game, 3rd & 8 @ CAR 34. Saints CB Alontae Taylor notches his third sack of the game by running through a chip block from Miles Sanders. 5th sack: vs. Chargers, Q1 6:22, 3rd & 5 from CAR 33. LAC sends six and the DB immediately beats Chuba to flush Bryce out to his left just as JT Sanders starts to come across the middle of the field. Bryce has to roll to his left and sees Adam Thielen streaking down the middle of the field with the safety rolling left to help the CB with XL but gets sacked beforehand. Even though Chuba got beat to start, Bryce took a little too long recognizing and winding up. There is more than a fair argument to say that this sack is half on Bryce as he could have kept scrambling upfield to leave the team within field goal range or recognized Thielen coming up sooner, but it's difficult for me to put it all on him as Chuba getting beat to start set everything in motion. 6th sack: Totally on Bryce. Held the ball too long and didn't try to get it to a couple of guys that were NFL open. No question. Conclusion: Bryce was only responsible for 1.5 - 2 of the first 6 sacks this season. Primary culprits imo were failed blitz pick ups by the RBs (twice) and a new OL that didn't get as many preseason reps as they might have needed to gel.

No disagreement here that higher numbers means bigger splashes, but as illustrated with the Cousins example that doesn't necessarily always translate to dubs. I understand that in Bryce's case that the stats have not been there and need improvement (not disagreeing with this either!), but perhaps the biggest issue with Bryce was the decision making. That was what was advertised as his way of uplifting his game where other QBs might rely on their legs, howitzer for an arm, or in some blessed cases - both. But what in the world is the point of holding 129yds passing against him when the run game put up 183yds in a win? Including 30 from Bryce? Yea, the Giants blow and the dub doesn't mean that Bryce is the guy, but playing a clean game and getting the win over a bad team is what he's supposed to do... isn't it? I'd love to see him air it out for 300+ by dropping bombs on defenses as much the next fan but if he's got an efficient, mistake free game that puts the team in position to win that's a positive. If he has to have 200+ passing yards even if Chuba's rattling off 150+ rushing yards then let's set it as the threshold rather than constantly moving arbitrary goalposts. Related: are folks really trying to push this "the team won in spite of Bryce" narrative when he had done his job and the defense just needed to hold off Daniel Jones?
-
So... 200yds? 300yds? Kirk Cousins just went 23-38 for 306yds and 1 INT for a QBR of 75.1 on Sunday while Bijan went for 116yds and 2 TDs on 20 attempts in a losing effort. Is that what folks want? 100+ rushing yards from the RB, 300+ passing yards from the QB, and an L for the team? Against a Saints team that the Panthers just beat to get the head coach fired and top CB traded away? If the issue is the amount of yards thrown for in a win, at what point is the yardage no longer an issue?
-
The convo that I am trying to have is that in a game where the opponent could not stop the run what is the appropriate passing yardage for the QB? I've seen plenty of folks denigrate the stat line and understand that nothing in this universe will ever get them to be okay with Bryce because of his physical attributes, but I'm not interested in changing minds. I just want to know what the threshold for passing yardage was for a QB who's run game was dominating. If the number is too low then what would make it right? Otherwise, we are drawing subjective conclusions (ie: winning in spite of Bryce) rather than objective ones.
-
That's one way to look at it, but the common complaint has been that he threw for only 126yds in a win. With that being the case, what was the stat line that people wanted to see from a game where the run was doing work?
-
What was the yardage that Bryce was supposed to throw for when the team is up 10-0 at the half thanks to Chuba's 93 rushing yards? Genuinely curious as to why people think that a team winning on the ground needs to abandon the run.
-
He's been fairly consistent about not naming the starter until late to keep a competitive advantage + evaluate practice reps. Kind of weird that folks are upset about Canales making Bryce earn starts after all of the butthurt over him being "handed" the job his rookie season.

Yes all day to Jalon Walker. Instantly makes the pass rush better and can drop back into coverage? Yes pls.

aside from the chiefs, what other games do you see us winning this year?
Icege replied to rayzor's topic in Carolina Panthers
Bucs lost Tristan Wirfs today to an MCL sprain. Could be big when it comes to playing against them twice to finish up the season. Cowboys lost Dak for the season and are going through it. Could steal that. Chiefs and Eagles will be a great test for the young guys to show them where they're currently at versus the big dawgs. I have no idea what to expect vs. Zona. -
There are some fans that are convinced that Bryce does not have the potential to be an NFL QB that go above and beyond to downplay anything positive he does. They're the same ones that were rolling their eyes at Bryce having under 100yds passing during the second half despite the fact that the Giants were getting their asses kicked in the run game. People like that will do anything they can do to feel like their misery is justified and not that they're... well... just miserable people themselves. Thankfully, there are a lot more fans that understandably just want to see some competent football before risking being excited for the team again.

If we're going to count the pick against XL last week as an INT, then we're counting today as a GWD.

Chuba Hubbard Josey Jewell DJ Wonnum A'Shawn Robinson Robert Hunt

No. Stop being happy. Winning is bad. We're supposed to be miserable and making mistakes trying to play moneyball!!! /s Fun win for the team. Chuba played his ass off today and the OL held up. Had some ugly drops take place but hopefully that can be worked out. DJ Wonnum's impact on the field was a lot bigger than I expected. Frustrating to think about how this defense would've looked with DB, Wonnum, Shaq, and Dane Jackson all being healthy at the same time. Wallace has made losing Shaq sting less, but man it's sucked seeing the DL, EDGE, and CB groups churn the way they have.
