Look p55, you're an intelligent, and informed poster here. I've already stated that some of the Shula hate is unwarranted. But you're not going to be able to sit there, and act as if he is literally public enemy #1 in our fan base, while at the same time pretending like literally every fan has been behind our quarterback 100% all this time. It just isn't true. Cam Newton is our franchise quarterback. Now, you are welcome to join the rest of us whenever you are ready.

There is a pretty big difference between being a QB coach, versus actually calling plays, and overseeing a whole offense. Some of the Shula hate is unwarranted. But when it's met with responses like "well why does Cam get a pass!?", that's even more ridiculous. Anyone who has read these boards the last 4 years knows that Newton has certainly not gotten a pass overall. We've finally just begun to clean this place up actually.

Love it. Ginn thrived here in 2013 with Cam Newton. Plain to see why it was an easy decision for him to sign on again for 2 years.

Good to hear about Shaq. These WR's need to curb the drops though. Especially Boykin, I've heard virtually nothing about him all TC.

I don't blame you for being skeptical. Labeling him a JAG though is a bit harsh. Obviously Victor Cruz level expectations would be rather absurd. My main concern with Boykin would be his inconsistency. We've seen enough of that at the position over the years. Anyways, it looks like things are shaping up for us to see some nice competition in preseason, and that's always a plus. To be clear, though I give you poo sometimes, and you can be a little silly, I value your opinion on this board.

I would hardly say he's up to "legendary status". Not sure what your definition of a JAG is, but for me, he doesn't fit that. Not every WR we have is going to be a returner. We've got Ginn, and at this point we may have Byrd who can help there too. To be plainly honest, if you see Corey as a "JAG", but not Boykin, there may be some bias going on. At this point I just want the best WR's out there to help our QB. We actually have some real competition at the position, and it's refreshing.

I don't recall this much legitimate talented competition in our backfield in quite some time. Hopefully this will result in our QB not having to all too often lead our team in rushing. Our OL is gonna have to put in some work.

Weren't you the one declaring over a month ago that Corey Brown wouldn't even make the roster? Bit hypocritical there dawg, just saying.

I really like Byrd. Hoping he can continue this into preseason. Ultimately that's where these guys are going to have to show out.

How many picks has he thrown? I haven't heard much except a few here, and there. Which is not abnormal in camp. He's also thrown numerous touchdowns. One major thing you have to consider for camp is that the defensive players are out there trying to make the squad also, and they are pretty good too. Regardless, you're not going to get a completely perfect QB, no matter what his name is. The thing to look for in those picks though is, was it simply a poor throw, or was it a DB simply making a good play? Newton has forced some passes in the past, he's already commented on working on that. But on the flip side, our WR's have to do their part by fighting to get the ball for their QB.

Oh really? Seems like the only things that are "pointless to the conversation" are the ones that do not fit with your arguments about the guy. Turd, Fua, really? Now you're just being absurd. Bersin may have struggled with returning punts when he was thrown into it out of the blue with little to no practice reps, but he is certainly a serviceable target in the passing game. If Byrd makes the roster over Bersin, I will actually be pretty excited, because that would mean that Byrd is playing extremely well. That would only bode well for our franchise, and our fans. However, we're 5 days into training camp, and there is plenty left. But I'm not going to dump on either guy, because they are doing what they need to.

Settle down there Sparky. I'm not even arguing one is better than the other. But using one to poo on the other however is fairly pointless. Other than the 2013 season, Boykin hasn't exactly lit the NFL up either. Look if you don't like the guy, cool, okay. You can type up as many arguments as you want to convince yourself that he isn't any good. But at the end of the day, he's a favorite target for our QB, who knows a thing or two about this more than us, so Bersin must be doing something right.

If you don't even see Bersin as valuable as Boykin, I don't know what to tell ya.

Of course a thread that should be about Byrd's progress turns into shitposts about cutting Bersin. At this point it doesn't have to be a one or the other scenario anyway.

I still wish we had formed an actual plan regarding his departure. We had to convince him to come back for the 2013 season, so it wasn't like we were not expecting it come 2014. I don't really blame Gettleman for it, I think it was more Rivera pushing for Byron Bell into the role. Ron's track record with being overly loyal to the nice guys who work hard but are mediocre like Bell/Chandler/Fua has not helped.
