Hurricanes flight was diverted to Miami last night, Ft. Lauderdale airport was closed due to torrential rains. Canes already at arena for morning skate. Sunrise FL light rain stopped now all is good to go.

Canes need to open up Lyon’s net early to take away some of that confidence he’s been building this past month. Freddie tends to give up early goals and then tighten up, so Canes need to score first and often. If Freddie holds em off first period that would be a good sign. Balls to the wall first period please gents.

Looks like Freddie in net tonight.

Just to show exactly what the Canes are facing in the Panthers, I’ve pasted the below from the Canes nhl ap (Walt Ruffs “Puck Drop” write up). The way both teams have been playing there’s no doubt the Canes are the underdogs. On paper the Canes lose. I believe the Canes will rise to the occassion and win, but this will be a real battle, make no mistake.

Alex Lyon in net for the Panthers, he’s played well this season with a .916 save percentage and has limited teams to 2 goals or less the last 5 games.

Like most of you I thought surely Rod has to put Raanta in net. But I looked at both Raanta’s and Freddie’s road records for this season on statmuse and to me it’s a mixed bag. Raanta had a lot of highs and lows GA. Freddie had a lot of 3 GA. Both had a lot of 2s. Then I looked at the two games against the Panthers, 0-3 away and 4-0 home Raanta in net for both. So absolutely I ain’t gonna pick lol.

Most of those stats included Svech.

The Canes want to maintain 1st in the Metro and face the Islanders first round. Panthers don’t want to face Boston. This game is equivalent to a playoff game and both teams will bring their best.

It’s official - Panthers do NOT want to play Boston and will be playing their best players against us. Let the battle begin!

No kidding. Canes are 4 and 6 for the last 10 games! Winning tomorrow is a must just to save face.

Oops-Scenario 4 Canes lose to Panthers in regulation, Devils lose to Capitals in regulation. Canes maintain 1st in Metro and play the Panthers. Still a must win, holding on to 1st due to another team losing sucks.

Pens out, Canes path is shorter now it’s either the Islanders or the Rags. TOMORROW IS A MUST WIN.

But then again like Panthers Fan said, just win Thursday. Any team is better for the Canes to play than the Rags.

Id rather see the Canes play the Islanders than follow up with a seven game series against Florida, assuming the canes beat Florida Thursday and Montreal wins tonight.

Well I want a win as well, but will be pulling for the Islanders today to win 2 points in regulation since Scenario 2 would be the best matchup to give the Canes a good playoff start. Panthers have been hot as of late winning 6 of their last 7 games.

Check me on this please in case I’m missing something! I’ve read the latest news and all I see is talk about Canes playing either Rangers or Panthers first round, but looking at the standings it seems possible Canes could end up playing the Islanders. The scenarios: Scenario 1 If Canes lose to the Panthers Thursday and NJD beat the Capitals then it’s clear that Canes would play the Rangers in the 1st round. Scenario 2 Looking at the current Wild Card standings, it appears to me that if the Islanders beat Montreal today and the Canes beat The Panthers Thursday, Islanders would move up from WC2 to WC1 and Canes would play the Islanders 1st round. Bruins would play the Panthers who would drop down to WC2. Scenario 3 If Canes beat the Panthers and Islanders lose to Montreal today the Panthers would remain at WC1 and Canes would play Panthers 1st round. Bruins would play the Islanders.

Man I learn things I never knew on CH, thanks for the info on signing undrafted players. This seems like a really good prospect. He’s only a softmore so still quite young, interesting to see how long he will be in the AHL before being brought up.

Not sure how much, they still may have a reason to win against the canes if the Islanders beat Montreal tomorrow. If Canes beat Fla with Islanders beating Montreal, Fla would fall to WC 2 and have to play Boston in the first round.

Raanta stopped 21 of 22 shots, .952 save percentage. He earned that 1st Star. A great team win on a back to back game.

Ok that’s the deal, what a stop by Raanta on the breakaway. Raanta needs to be our man from here on out.

Canes have had a lot of grade A chances, need to put ‘em in the net. I want 5-6 goals here. NJD gonna win and it’s up to the Canes to win this and the Panthers game to clinch 1st.
