Historically speaking, they sure seem less capable than many DIII programs. I really don't understand when Panthers fans pretend like this has been a competent organization. We've lost more games than any other team since Tepper bought this franchise. That's just the reality of the situation.

A doctor can't tell you how things are going to go with a chronic issue that's largely about pain management. Something one person can deal with another can't and it's not really about pain tolerance as much as it is just variance from one individual to the next. One person can be dealing with an issue that the images look like he should be barely getting around and he's actually doing alright. Another person can be dealing with an issue that doesn't look all that bad in images but he's practically crippled with pain. The best indicator is how things have been progressing and last year things took a considerable turn for the worst so obviously we decided to pay him. LOL

on admittedly bum knees Oh wee mayne

Because you left out the key pertinent CURRENT information. Your mindset is where the Panthers have been stuck for years. You don't pay someone for what they have done in the past, you pay them for what you expect them to do in the future. You shouldn't expect a 31 year old lineman with chronic knee issues who missed time last year and was barely able to practice to continue to hold up.

Sorry man, a 300+ pounder on the wrong side of 30 dealing with chronic knee issues is definitely a concern. BEFORE this extension most of us were saying that we hope he can hold up over the course of the season much less future seasons. Interpret Moron's words carefully. "Looking forward, I do believe I have another contract in me," Moton said, per The Athletic. "But right now my focus is on the 2025 season and making sure I do whatever I can to have the best season I can for everybody involved." "I do believe I have another contract in me." Not years of play, another CONTRACT. I hope I'm reading way too much into all this but I think we just got fleeced.

I'd say Renfrow would take his place in the locker room, moreso Coker on the field.
-
How is it overblown? He had to have his workload very carefully managed all season last year while still missing some games. Not because of an acute injury, but because of chronic knee issues. These things just do not get better with age while still playing football and carrying 300+ pounds.
-
Nice framing? You mean just telling the truth?
-
One of my non-Panthers serious football fan friends succinctly summed it up...

Because we haven't drafted anyone worth re-signing in awhile.

Renfrow

Oh wee mayne. That would be peak Panthering. LOL

At the expense of cap space down the road. Straight out of Hurney 101 school of NFL GMing. Kick that can. Just don't have Moton kick it himself, gotta watch those knees.
-
The man literally missed games last year and had to have his workload carefully managed. Why? Because of pain/discomfort and inability. A lot of chronic knee issues come down to pain management. No doctor can tell you how it's going to go. If they do they're lying to you. We know how it went last year.
-
You know who says their chronic knee issues are magically resolved? Someone currently in negotiations for $40M+ in new money. You know whose chronic knee issues don't magically resolve? 30+ year old 300+ football players.
-
I doubt they're serious. But if they're chronic they're worsening and it caused him to miss games last year while having his workload carefully managed. If we were trying to squeeze a couple more years out of a SB window I would better understand it but that's the opposite of our current situation. IMO, this was clearly a situation where you let the guy play out this season and see how it goes. You always have the option of the franchise tag in your back pocket if need be.

I gave you a quote from the man himself above.
-
How many of them are dealing with chronic knee issues that have to be managed? I just don't understand extending him when he was already under contract for this season. Why not see how his knees hold up? He's been an iron man throughout his career but finally kissed some games last year due to knee pain that according to him is due to chronic issues. You know what doesn't improve with age and continuing to play football? Chronic knee issues.

Just a reminder, straight from the horse's mouth... “It’s chronic stuff. Most linemen deal with it," Moton said of his knee. "But it’s just figuring out what we can do to make sure it’s limited and I’m still able to explode off it, which right now I can and I feel like I can in the future." So yeah, we're re-upping a guy on the other side of 30 who himself admits that he's dealing with chronic knee issues.

There are a grand total of 14 OTs on NFL rosters over the age of 32.

I'm not opposed to it IF we're confident XL is ready to deliver AND that Renfrow can stay healthy. I didn't like how he reached for that hammy after that hospital ball last night.
-
Have you been following the Panthers for long because yeah, that sounds exactly like something the Panthers would do. LOL
-
If we're as concerned about that knee as rumors made it out then I would've definitely wanted to see how it held up this year before giving him a bunch of new money. I mean, there were retirement rumors this off-season due to that knee.

Post- Training Camp 53-Man Roster Projection
LinvilleGorge replied to Seltzer's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'm almost certain he isn't.
