Which they're just using to explain how they developed their grading system. The stats have nothing to do with the way they grade a play which they explain by showing two gifs of two separate plays with different outcomes but the same PFF grade. Are you even reading this stuff before you link it? The statistics or the outcome of a play has nothing to do with a player's PFF grade for that play. They tell you that over and over in every link you post. It's literally an arbitrary system that they came up with to create a framework for grading player performance.

Dude, that's a page talking about their soccer grades.

Oh Jesus, my inlaws live about 10 minutes from Legoland and I'm gonna be down there in a week. Yeah, not looking forward to it but honestly it ain't any colder here at the moment so you're not missing out. Honestly, I just don't pay a whole lot of attention to PFF grades. I just enjoy poking fun at the people who view them as gospel. Hell, at the end of the day, I hope they're right. Because all evidence is that David Tepper is one of those guys.

They don't use stats for their player grades. Period. They straight up tell you that. https://www.pff.com/grades "Their system" was arbitrarily created by them. A PFF grade reflects PFF's opinion of a player's performance based on an evaluation system they constructed. That's it, that's all. It's a piece of information. It's not an end all be all of anything.

Is English your native language?

You might want to re-read that. They're specifically saying they DON'T use stats. They arbitrarily judge each play and then extrapolate that into a grade.

PFF grades aren't stats.

Panthers hire another analytics/data guy from PFF
LinvilleGorge replied to Pazhoosier89's topic in Carolina Panthers
"Hype levels" ultimately lean nothing and I honestly think that a lot of the perceived "hype" is largely confirmation bias because when you look most analysts, most still have us near the bottom the league in terms of overall roster strength and expectations on the field this season. -
What? That's not what it is at all. He's talking about the folks trashing Ickey because he's beating him. He's saying that Ickey is great but he's just that dude.

I have some optimism. There's a difference between being somewhat optimistic and wanting to jump head first into an all-PFF analytics department after two decent light contact practices. -
Damn go go gadget arms. LOL

Hence why two light contact practices aren't going to get me too excited. -

I wonder if anyone has told Dave that he could just get a subscription to PFF for $120 a year?- 19 replies

Barno had a ton of athletic potential he just wasn't a football player and that's why he fell to the 6th round despite having superhero measurables.

Something I noticed when researching Mello Dotson
LinvilleGorge replied to TD alt's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yep. I've pointed it out numerous times. Our VP of Analytics basically had that same role for PFF. -
Gonna have to hope for some young guys to surprise in a good way and/or (probably and) shop the waiver wire hard as cuts start happening. On paper this has to be the worst LB unit in the league, maybe by a wide margin.

Best in the league? Good grief. I'd be thrilled if we were in the top half of the league. Even that would likely mean that T-Mac had a nice rookie season and XL made considerable gains over the off-season.

[Brett Kollman] 4 Teams That Are Better Than You Think
LinvilleGorge replied to Icege's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah, basically if we don't end up with yet another top 10 draft pick then we were better than expected. -
Yeah, intriguing athlete with crazy measurables but when an intriguing athlete with crazy measurables who isn't facing murder charges or something extreme off the field falls to the 6th round you know there are very real concerns on the field. I still support the pick though. I mean, on the 6th round sure, roll the dice on a guy like that.

[Brett Kollman] 4 Teams That Are Better Than You Think
LinvilleGorge replied to Icege's topic in Carolina Panthers
The defense was the biggest issue only because they were literally historically bad. It's not like the offense was lighting it up. We were 29th on yardage and 23rd in scoring. We sucked on that side of the ball too. -
I think there's going to be a battle for which safety starts beside Moehrig too.

Frank comment about Bryce? "Excited"
LinvilleGorge replied to PanthersATL's topic in Carolina Panthers
How is it unethical? He didn't hold a gun to David Tepper's head for that contract. Once we drafted a QB that didn't fit his offense or fit his preferences it was all cooked. I have no idea if he was told something that reasonably made him expect he'd have more say in the QB decision or I'd he simply thought he'd be able to be more persuasive through the process but there seemed to be a noticeable shift in his energy and engagement once we honed in on Bryce and I don't think that went unnoticed by Tepper leading to the quick dismissal once everything headed south. -

As soon as Frank signed the papers he had the $36M guaranteed. He didn't have to avoid getting fired to get it and seemingly made no effort to avoid getting fired. Truth be told he probably felt a good deal of relief that day and probably enjoyed a nice meal with his family that night discussing plans for retirement life away from football. -
"Since Dan took over" is very recently. I'm talking a lot longer term than that. We honestly haven't seen enough yet to know if Dan's approach is going to work or not.
