For those wondering about Goff and the Lions' attitude about grabbing another QB right away, there is this article. https://lionswire.usatoday.com/2021/01/31/trading-for-jared-goff-gives-the-lions-a-starter-level-qb-and-a-potential-bridge-to-the-future/ "At just 26 years of age, the door isn’t shut on Goff revitalizing his career with the Lions — it’s happened before, look no further than Ryan Tannehill and the Titans — but he has shown that when he feels pressure in the pocket, he struggles to produce and that’s a significant concern. Can the Lions get him enough pass protection? Can QB coach Mark Brunell use his 19 years of NFL quarterbacking experience to teach him how to handle the pressure? Those will surely be questions at the forefront of the Lions coaching staff this offseason." Because of this, adding a quarterback with the No. 7 pick in the NFL draft is still very much in play. With four quarterbacks capable of being selected at the top of this draft, the Lions will be in a position to get value for their pick. If there is a large gap between the Lions’ quarterback rankings, they now have enough draft capital to trade up to get their guy if they need to. If the Lions do select a quarterback in this draft class, Goff is the perfect bridge quarterback for Detroit, as they won’t feel the need to force the rookie into action early and can give him time to develop."

Folks, if you compare the players and picks, yes--Detroit robbed the Rams--but do not discount the value of getting out of that dumb contract with Goff and Getting Stafford on board for 4-5 years. I wonder how much the success of Indy and Tampa Bay played into this? Brady is 10 years older than Stafford. Rivers was about 5 years older.
-
Not sure, Aussie. I hope so.
-
Their first rounders have not really worked out.
-
I think they took Goff to get rid of the contract--so the deal was Stafford for the picks and ridding us of this bad contract. They may not draft a QB at #8, however, because they have needs. Here is what I would do--you have Goff and Chase Daniel. If Goff does not work out, NEXT year you have 2 or even 3 first rounders to move up for anyone you want. Build around Goff and see what you have in this system--give him some weapons, etc. They could TRADE back with the #7 pick, or even trade up--but I see them taking a WR at #8. Chase is my guess--if there.
-
The Aggie may have done us a favor. Unless he trades the #7 pick to a team like New England-- By the way, I have known Brandon Parker since he was 4. His dad and I are good friends.
-
Good question--they have many needs. I would try out Goff knowing I had enough to trade up next year if he does not work out. But it sure does not sound like he had much value.

I have not seen him that high---day 3.

Matt Rhule continues to show why he's the right guy for the Panthers
MHS831 replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
I would add that the difference I see between Matt and Ron---Ron connected with veterans--Rhule seems to be connected to the rookies more than RR was. Just an observation. -

Go ahead--Trump is gone. I will be here all week. -

You forget the Undrafted Free Agents-some of these kids do not get picked. I will wager that we sign 2-3 undrafted free agents from this game. -
I am thinking that Rhule did not know Brady as well as he needed to know him, basing a lot on his national championship and Burrow's evolution, but he trusted Brady to select personnel and he missed. Yes, it falls on the head coach, but remember where we were with Cam, the pandemic, etc. and Bridgewater was pretty good (when surrounded by a good OL) in New Orleans. You do not hear comments now about QBs coming from Brady (of course, he is Covid-19 absent), but you do hear Rhule making them. He is letting it known that he is shopping for a QB. About Bridgewater, I find Rhule's use of the word "urgency" to be interesting. Does he mean late in games? Does he mean TB's career? I think he means "urgency" across the board---get the team out of the huddle, learn the 2 minute offense, know when to throw it down field in game situations and when to hit the check down. Know how to win the game in the fourth quarter--there is a different approach to the QB position when urgency is needed. TB stayed the same.

There were not a lot of options, I suppose. But Rhule's honeymoon is now over. I think he will win in 2021, but he must fill 7 or 8 holes with quality players. I am not as convinced that Brady is this genius everyone thinks he is; I am more impressed with Snow and what he did with what he had.
-
Yeah, that is where I am. Maybe he is plan C, and we will learn a lot over the next 6-8 weeks,
-
Mac Jones (in interview) said, "Coach Rhule is just awesome..." Based on Rhule's comments on Jones, I sense a mutual man crush brewing. Sober up Matt.

You named a few off my wish list. The middle rounds are full of these kinds of players--I expect us to take 2-3 OL in this draft. Dilliion R has been all over the mocks---I have seen him in the 20s to the 180s. I think he is a day 2 pick. Banks is one that I have not been paying attention to---need to read up on him so I can act like an expert later.
-
40th overall pick. We stole him.
-
Is it safe to say that we will draft 2-3 players from this game? Is it safe to say that we will sign a few undrafted free agents from the Sr. Bowl? I stand by those questions.
-
Exactly the example I thought of--then I thought of Silatolu.
-
Small school guys need this game more than others, I would assume.

thanks for sharing. Welcome to the Huddle.

Rhule is real. I hope it works.

The list: Denver won a super bowl with an over the hill, old QB. Indy just made the playoffs with Rivers (38), so 33 is a baby. New England: Patriots' coach just spent a year eating humble pie and realizing how he became a great coach. He will be a player because another losing season means he renounces his immortality. The Bills, Dolphins, and soon the Jets will be better teams. Indy or Denver, imo.

I just got an idea or had a thought. I must start a thread to share this wisdom immediately!
