  1. Been out of touch for a couple days, get home, tune in and I missed the first 15 minutes and 2 goals. I'm hoping for 2 points between tonight and tomorrow. Gotta find a way to get past Washington- they own the Canes this season. A little surprised the Canes are favored on the road tonight. Anyone here have season tickets? We're looking at an 11-game package for next season...
  2. Good to see Jesperi take care of business. Should not have been 10 minutes, follow-thru to Stepan's head into the glass.
  3. The wine dinner last night featured Orin Swift wines by Dave Phinney. Orin Swift is owned by the Gallo Family portfolio. The Slander Pinot was good. The D66 Others is a French red blend (yes, Phinney also owns a winery in France). France is divided into 90 geographical "Departments," this particular winery being in Department 66, hence D66. 8 Years in the Desert was very a good California Zinfandel. So named because Dave Phinney agreed not to make or sell any Zin for 8 years after he sold his last brand some of you may recognize- The Prisoner. So, after making Prisoner for 8 years, he had to spend another 8 years in wine purgatory before making another Zin, and this is it.
  4. Stick lifting the stick, what more can you ask for? What was the call? No slash, no hook....
  5. Wait, I come home to see a 4-3 SOL on 15 fugging shots? What the ever livin' fug? Against a 1-line team?
  6. Have to attend a wine dinner tonight, so I'll probably miss the first 2 periods. Domi starting on the 4th line with Jesperi and Stepan. Forwards: Teravainen - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - Trocheck - Necas Niederreiter - Staal - Fast Domi - Kotkaniemi - Stepan Defensemen: Slavin - DeAngelo Skjei - Pesce Cole - Bear Starting Goalie: Andersen Injuries: Jordan Martinook Scratches: Steven Lorentz Brendan Smith Last Time Out: The Canes scored twice on the power play Tuesday night, paving the way to a 3-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning at PNC Arena. Martin Necas, Tony DeAngelo and Sebastian Aho were the goal scoreres for Carolina while Frederik Andersen earned his 31st win of the year in net. Domi Day: Forward Max Domi is expected to make his Canes debut tonight after being acquired from Columbus on Monday. Wearing #13 this evening, he posted 32 points in 53 games with the Blue Jackets before the deal. His first goal with the Canes will be the 100th of his NHL career. Hey, We're On ESPN!: Tonight's telecast can be found on the ESPN, featuring a commentary team of Bob Wischusen and Brian Boucher. Mike Maniscalco, Tripp Tracy and Alec Campbell will handle the radio duties on 99.9 The Fan. Two For Two-Four: Seth Jarvis had two assists in the team's win over Tampa on Tuesday, the second time in the last three games he has posted multi-point games. Now up to 24 points in 49 games, Jarvis ranks sixth in scoring among players selected in the 2020 draft. Enjoying The Home Cooking: Carolina's victory over Tampa was their 24th win at PNC Arena this year, the third-most home wins by any NHL club. Now 13-1-2 in their last 16 games in Raleigh, the Canes have just eight home games remaining after tonight. A Look At The Other Side: Dallas trailed 3-2 with six minutes to go in regulation Tuesday night. Two goals in 24 seconds later, they were in the driver's seat in what would become a 5-3 comeback win. They are 6-4 in their last ten games but have not had as much success on the road as they've had at home this year, currently touting a 14-16-2 record when away from the American Airlines Arena. Veteran Joe Pavelski has been the guiding force for the offense, producing over a point-per-game thus far this season, totaling 64 points in 62 outings.
  7. Going to an Orin Swift wine dinner tomorrow night. Not familiar, but I'm told it's a big, bold California wine. Looking forward to it.
  8. Seriously, if Rhule is there, the Panthers are screwed.
  9. He made that glove save on Palat from point blank range, but was also fortunate a couple didn't bounce the other way off the cross bar and posts, otherwise it's a 4-3 loss.
  10. And Domi was at the game last night. Was introduced and got a huge standing ovation from the crowd. And I got a fist-bump from Tom Waddell as he was walking up the steps from behind the Canes bench...
  11. Was at the game last night- was pure playoff atmosphere and the Canes fans in attendance knew how important that game was. My observations: the Necas goal was a missile, but what should not go unnoticed is how much his defensive play is improving. TDA is just fun to watch. Away from the puck his head is on a swivel and he always seems to be in the right place- don't see him get caught out of position very much. And, he doesn't care how big the other guy is, he'll stand toe-to-toe. The cross-checking penalty on him was BS- he caught the guy just above the hips and was more in the side than back- not looking at full numbers when the call was made. You all saw the PP with him on the point, right? Like night and day when he's not there. Tampa wanted to fight several times last night. Maroon was chirping and trying to bait anyone all night long and never did anything. Of course, he's looking to regain some street cred after the Rangers Reaves dropped the gloves with him last week, bitch-slapped him and Maroon never threw a punch. Kucherov took 2 penalties in the 3rd period and wanted to start a fight after the final horn- that's a sure suspension. I thought Staal was going to throw down with a couple guys last night. Freddie doesn't talk much on the ice to anyone, but I was interested to see he and Ethan Bear talking during stoppages. I'm sure Ethan is trying to learn where Freddie wants his placement so he can keep his vision. Tampa's Vaselline man actually bowed a couple times at the Canes bench after Aho's goal, almost as if to say, "Yeah, I gifted you that one."
  12. So, who are the odd men out? Who will be healthy scratches the rest of the season?
  13. Interesting that Canes twitter hasn't mentioned a word about this deal. There's a couple reports the deal was in the making before the deadline, but no confirmation yet?
  14. Copp went to the Rangers and NY also got Tyler Motte and Justin Braun both (D). The Rangers just got a little better ahead of the playoffs.
  15. As a rental, maybe. I'd be hard-pressed to ever become a fan.... But for a rental situation, I'd rather have Clutterbuck.
  16. Looks to me like we're staying with who got us here. At this point there's nothing to keep secret or wait until the last minute for, so.....
  17. 5 weeks or so left in the regular season and RBA said Saturday that Martinook is out for "a few weeks." Copp is a UFA after this season while Martinook is under contract for the next 2 seasons at $1.8M.
  18. For who? Copp is at $3.6M and unless the Jets are willing to carry some of that salary, he's a little out of reach unless the Canes trade Vinny, Nino, TT or one of the young guns.
  19. Haas will be competitive, no worries there. They have some bugs to work out with the cars, but Kevin Magnussen and Schumacher are both pretty decent drivers.
  20. My wife is "in the business," so to speak, so there is no shortage of supply in our house. Following my return from Southeast Asia in 1975, I lived in Napa for a short period and can tell you that Saturday afternoon winery tastings back then were free and only a few people took advantage of the opportunity. Nobody really knew anything about California wines then. We've been fortunate guests of a few California wineries over the years and it's always much more fun when someone else is picking up the tab. I've had my share of Caymus, Opus One, Joseph Phelps Insignia, etc., but the fun challenge is finding the diamond in the rough that doesn't cost a lot, but tastes like a million.
  21. The offense is doing everything it needs to. The forecheck was outstanding yesterday, as it was against Washington and Pittsburgh. The only difference is the puck isn't going in the net. I counted 6 times yesterday when the net was wide open and/or the puck hit iron. 6 certain goals missed the net or hit a post. You can't blame that on the offense. 44 shots is not the sign of an offense that doesn't produce. And for those of you who think a move needs to be made, I'd like to hear what that move is, out of curiosity. I don't see anyone out there who will help this team tomorrow or next week that would be an upgrade over someone on the roster now.
  22. Shots 28-8 with 4 minutes left in the 2nd. Guess who's not winning?
  23. Opportunities, chances, speed, just can't put it on net.
  24. Already a different looking team with TDA back. 7 shots already, but they're missing the net.
