Tonight's game was a clear display put on by a team who will be asking questions after they don't make the playoffs. All they need to do is watch this game. It'll answer all those questions.

Doing everything but hitting the back of the net.
-
Owning these guys and are tied. WTF.
-
Another Necas lapse.
-
That goal shows you where this team is lacking on D. It's not the back end, it's forwards not staying with their man. Burns had his guy and Necas goes to the same guy leaving the middle open and bumps into Burns along the way. That's on Necas.

Just wanted to put that out there in full transparency.

Fug Ovechkin and Wilson.

Seems that way until you see the Canes leading the league in fewest shots allowed.
-
He'll definitely be the 2 until he gets some minutes under his pads. It'll be another few weeks after his return until he's game ready. Even then we may see him play a period or 2 at a time and get relieved by Pyotr.

Slow down there, Sparky.

Regardless of the current state of goalies in Raleigh, the fact this team decided to keep both Anderson and Raanta after last season raised my level of concern. Not sure about the rest of you, but I was fairly certain with both of their injury concerns that at least 1 of them would be gone. Am I surprised this is where we are right now? Hardly.

Jarvy v. Caps.

First off, you don't fire someone then give them an effective date. His locker is full because he hasn't cleared waivers. Or, maybe Rants is going to announce his retirement when he clears waivers with no suitors. Second, there are trade talks happening with a host of teams. Perets is not ready for NHL hockey.

I'm on one other message board owned and operated by a guy in Arizona. It's for Jeep owners and there are no ads, no subscription but he will take a contribution if you want. No pressure to donate. But, what he does have are a few Jeep aftermarket part and accessory sponsors who have fixed ads, not pop-ups.

There is a Sunday 6PM game with Washington in the house. Someone needs to be wearing pads tomorrow as the #2.

I see theses guys as being trade bait: Drury, Pesce. If Pesce goes, Chatty moves up to the second pair and TDA is on with Orlov. Say what you will about TDA, but the Canes have nobody else to run point on the PP. Drury goes and somebody is getting a phone call to come up to the show. Either one of those guys should get a decent net minder.

https://www.nhl.com/hurricanes/news/canes-place-raanta-on-waivers RALEIGH, NC. - The Carolina Hurricanes placed goaltender Antti Raanta on waivers Saturday afternoon. Raanta, 34, has produced a record of 6-5-1 this season with a goals against average (GAA) of 3.61 and a save percentage (SV%) of .854. All 31 other NHL clubs will have 24 hours to claim the netminder and his current contract, a one-year deal worth $1.5M signed in July. Raanta has played 69 games in three seasons with the team, posting a total record of 40-13-8 with a 2.59 GAA and a .901 SV%. Through 267 career games with the Blackhawks, Canes, Coyotes, and Rangers, he is 133-78-28 with a 2.49 GAA and a .915 SV%.

I thought I'd give it 12 hours after last night's game before I said anything about what I witnessed last night. So, here goes: 1. Raanta was terrible and everyone in the building knew what kind of night it was going to be after Nashville's first goal. Soft, weak and nothing on it, yet Raanta failed to stop it. Nashville scored 6 last night, and, if I'm being generous, an average goalie might have let 3 of those by, maybe even 2. 2. The Canes stayed in the game the majority of the first 2 periods. They never came out of the locker room for the third. They had no legs, Nashville spent the entire period in the offensive zone and the gaps and spacing were huge because Carolina couldn't stay on their man. 3. Canes never had an offensive set in their O-zone in the 3rd period last night. Whoever could make entry was just throwing the puck at the net and moving on. Nashville won all the board battles and 50/50 pucks, their forecheck was strong and the Canes had nothing for them except hope that a 2 goal lead would stand. 4. Raanta is shell-shocked. The Tampa Bay debacle is in his head, his season is now in his head and he might not recover from this. He was nothing short of atrocious last night. In my opinion, he needs to stay on the bench and Pyotr needs to become the 1. Raanta may have to play the 2nd day of a back-to-back, but no way should he be 1A-1B with Pyotr. The Might Mites who played between periods last night could have scored on Raanta. There's no way this is a playoff team right now. If you score 5 goals in an NHL game and can't win, there are several issues that need to be addressed. If the Canes don't come back from the holiday break and start winning games and getting some defensive production, this season will be over by the All-Star break. Oh, and might I remind you that RBA doesn't yet have a contract for next year. Not saying he should be canned or remotely close, but, you gotta wonder....

Harbs got Noesen. He's now leading.

Think Kooch is going. Raanta spent 5 minutes on the ice. Kooch on the whole warmup.
-
Kooch is first in net for warmups.

It was April 2019. The Canes were in the playoffs again and my wife and I had spent the morning at the fairgrounds for the annual GoodGuys car show. After we were done walking, we decided to head over to the Carolina Ale House for the Canes @ Islanders Game 2 watch party. We got a couple beers, order some food and watched the game. At some point, a young lady approached my wife and asked her if I served in the Navy (I had a Navy hat on). She said, "yes, he retired in 1993 after serving 20 years." Mind you, I met and married my wife after I retired. Anyway, this person got our home phone and information and the next thing you know, we have seats for Game 4 at PNC and I get introduced as (they called it back then) Fearless Hero of the game. It was pretty special. I was just a guy watching the game and they went out of their way to take care of us. Not to mention the Canes swept that series, it was a resounding win, which made it more special. We had just sold our PSL to the Panthers a couple years before, I love hockey and my wife got hooked after 1 game in PNC. We weren't attached to anything sports at that time and we were getting single game tickets every now and then. Not just because of this thing they did for us, but seeing the team built the way it is and knowing they'll be a perennial contender makes it much easier to get those season tickets every year.

I'm sticking with Bunting. On home ice with last change- I think he catches more opportunities tonight.
-
Is there anyone more snakebit after as many chances as he had last night?

They don't even have to be moral crosses. Look, there are a lot of people who cannot get past Cam's wardrobe, so asking them to get onboard if he were to have a position of management, power and authority? Good luck with that. You know them- they're response is, "Just shut up and play football."
