  1. Hate to say it, but I'm a Boston fan tonite. Now I'm throwing up in my mouth ....
  2. End of season collapse with a schedule full of should-be-wins. Glad I didn't buy any playoff tickets.
  3. Time to update the board, guys. 6-15-4 when they don't score at least 3 goals. 12-14-5 when they don't score first. Let's not leave out the mediocrity, either. The Canes are now 7-5-1 since #37 went down with his injury.
  4. Oh, I thought long and hard about playoff tickets and took a big pass.... wise choice.
  5. I'm out guys. This one is over early and I'm tired. Going to watch Ted Lasso and hit the sack early. Canes will have a 1-point edge over NJ in a couple hours.
  6. PREVIOUS MEETINGS THIS SEASON Thursday, January 5: The Canes posted a franchise record of 67 shots, but Jusse Saros stopped 64 of them, guiding Nashville to a 5-3 victory. NEWS & NOTES Last Time Out: Carolina got off to a good start Tuesday against Ottawa, taking a 2-0 first-period lead. Brady Skjei, Jesperi Kotkaniemi, and Stefan Noesen each earned a point on both goals and Antti Raanta looked like a goaltender that had earned a point in 16 consecutive decisions. Ottawa was the better team in the second and third periods though, crawling back into the contest and eventually forcing the 22nd overtime of the season for Carolina. But in the end, Martin Necas had another game-winner on his stick, pushing the home team to a 3-2 victory. In Net: Rod Brind'Amour said pre-game Sunday that the plan is for the Canes to rotate their goalies for the rest of the regular season. With Antti Raanta having earned the victory on Tuesday against the Senators, it is expected that Frederik Andersen will have the nod tonight. "Freddie" stopped 21 out of 22 on Sunday against the New York Islanders and is 20-9-1 on the season. Shooting For Three: Carolina is 44-4-5 when scoring three goals or more this season. Get The First One: Carolina is now 38-5-4 when scoring the first goal of the game. Only the Bruins (40) have more wins when earning the contest's first tally. ----------------------------------------------------- "Carolina is 44-4-5 when scoring three goals or more this season." This also means Carolina is 6-14-4 if they can't put 3 goals on the board. "Carolina is now 38-5-4 when scoring the first goal of the game." And, this also means Carolina is 12-13-5 when they don't score first. ------------------------------------------------------ Lines: Forwards: Teravainen - Aho - Necas Noesen - Kotkaniemi - Puljujarvi Martinook - Staal - Fast Drury - Stepan - Jarvis Defense: Slavin - Burns Skjei - Pesce Gostisbehere - Chatfield Goalies: Andersen
  7. Correct, the players are under contract to the Canes, not the franchise. So, the Checkers are a Florida Panthers affiliate and have been so since 2020-2021 season. All I can find is a multi-year deal is in place and I have no idea about the terms of that affiliate contract. The Canes, at one point several years ago, shared an affiliate contract with an AHL or ECHL team, can't remember which one it was. That's not out of the question, either.
  8. Not so much a rumor anymore... https://theathletic.com/4385133/2023/04/05/chicago-wolves-hurricanes-ahl-affiliate/ The Chicago Wolves are going it alone. They’re done depending on an NHL team to determine whether they’ll be successful in the AHL. Wolves general manager Wendell Young confirmed Wednesday the Wolves plan to become an independent AHL team beginning next season after their three-year contract with the Carolina Hurricanes expires at the end of the 2022-23 season. -------------------------------------- I'm sure the NHL has a mechanism in place that will allow the Canes to arrange an affiliation with another franchise.
  9. This was, honestly, a forgettable game. A very good 1st period with the only 2 goals in regulation, but what was as noticeable was the number of SOG the Sens had- they kept pace with the Canes all game. Fortunately, Raanta played very well because there were pucks coming at him from all directions. When Brown took the double minor (4 minute) in the 1st period- there was no call on the ice and a ref was standing in the opposite corner watching the entire play and didn't raise his arm. It took the bench and crowd screaming to make a call for the video review to get the penalty. Just garbage officiating. Then, the 2 minute delay of game on Ottawa trying to challenge something that didn't happen. From there on the refs were looking for reasons to get some PIM on the Canes. The Martinook tripping call in the 2nd and the Fast holding stick call in the 3rd were just awful calls, and the Fast penalty resulted in a game-tying goal. I will give the Sens some credit for supporting the rookie goalie making his first NHL start. They lined up to tap him as though they'd won the game. Good for them- the kid played well.
  10. Seth Jarvis bobblehead night! I'll be at the game tonight.... and in the last 3 seasons, the Canes have only lost twice when we've been there.
  11. I agree with The Great One. It's not an even matchup at that point; the shooter has all the advantage. But, I'm also in the camp that the regular season and playoff overtime rules need to be consistent. Right now, there are no shootouts in the playoffs. Why? Because they are an anti-climactic end to a game. The playoffs are now a 20-minute, 5-on-5, sudden death period. Either make the regular season the same or, at the very least, just extend the 3-on-3, as Gretzky suggests, to eliminate as much of the possibility of a shootout as you can.
  12. I have 2 games left- Tues vs. Ottawa and the 11th, final home game of the season vs. Detroit
  13. There are about 4 guys on the Islanders roster I' d like to see in a Canes sweater. Anders Lee, Brock Nelson, Zach Parise, and Cizikas.
  14. Top line taking the night off again? If we had a coach like Tortarello, he would have benched them for a period. Someone needs to step the fug up 3rd period.
  15. Slavin took 3 cross checks behind the net with no call. If anyone in the NHL deserved benefit of the doubt, it's 74.
  16. No net front, everyone just firing at will from distance. That's like practice for Sorokin.
  17. That goal was on Necas, too. He stopped skating and Pageau went to the net unimpeded.
  18. That was weak. Junior hockey poo right there.
  19. Drury, KK and Jarvis all had some jump last night and played well.
  20. Believe it or not, tequila is the only liquor I drink. Never acquired a taste for anything else. I enjoy a good wine now and then and beer just gives my bladder a workout, so I've become a tequila connoisseur of sorts.
  21. Forget all the additives, it's tequila kind of day... My last pour of Addictivo Extra Anejo, save for the emergency ounce in the cap
  22. Any time the Rangers lose I am happy, I don't care where they are in the standings. But, it was an OT loss, so they still picked up a point on Carolina. That being said, I think they are fairly inconsequential at this point. However, if they keep losing and the Canes follow suit, they could be a first round matchup.
  23. I'm pretty sure I stated the Canes would lose the division lead after last weekend. I was off by a week. They could lose it after this weekend.
  24. Marty Necas screen on Andersen that resulted in the game winning goal was probably the best net front the Canes had all night.
