I mean, if they're like, "his stupid African hair", etc. then they should be banned at once.

But it does look pretty silly. People should be allowed to make fun of a hairstyle. It's just hair. If we're going to put ancestry and heritage off-limits ... welp ... no making fun of any fat guy with Italian roots lol, guys with red hair (don't say the G Word), accents, first and last names, religious stuff, etc.

i mean yeah sure in a vacuum. but in the context of our culture there's no powerful, structural prejudice against redheads such that saying the G Word would be an obvious reflective slur. whereas the N word (or making fun of black folks hair, which is DEEPLY rooted to black culture) absolutely could be. so even if it's intended innocently why bother? why take the chance of making some look at you sideways and half to decide if you're being funny or racist? seems a lot easier just not to go there

According to some, my English teachers, including some black, are racist for being so strict with the language and having high standards.

wrong. no language or dialect that has an internally consistent registry is "wrong" because the only way one is "right" is if someone with power says it is (historically white ppl obviously.)

some language or dialect can be inappropriate for a particular situation. my teacher correcting me from saying "ain't" in school ain't wrong, because in school and in formal settings we say isn't because that's more appropriate. with my friends i say ain't and that's fine.

robbie is talking in AAE as a football player in a locker room where you're paid millions of dollars to sell an entertaining product to consumers. robbie speaking AAE as an entertainer isn't inappropriate. when robbie goes to the bank he probably code switches to something a little more "standard" or "appropriate" for the context as many people with nonstandard english dialects do.

language use is governed by history and power and we should remember which of its social advantages we carry with us without having earned it by wielding it like a sword to cut down those who use it differently.

Dude.  And this will be my last post on this.

Between Robbies actions, interviews and twitter posts the dude is a fuging moron.  It has nothing to do with his dialect or register of speech.  Its crazy to try and tag the racism label to folks laughing at this dumb motherfuger.   He cannot string together 2 fuging sentences where he doesnt sound idiotic.  I get it, thats his shtick but being labeled a retard and being laughed at goes with that territory.   I mean is basic English that hard to learn?

saying AAE speakers should learn basic english is racist, full stop. you just negated everything you said prior to this.

We make fun of Baker's height, we made fun of Drew Brees and his mole, we made fun of Gettleman and his shorts, we make fun of Tom Brady's prissy looks, we made fun of Rhule's fat, we made fun of JR looking like a corpse, etc. Robby has a funny-looking haircut. PERIOD. It's perfectly reasonable to mock it.

Now, if you want to argue how Robbie speaks/types is a product of his upbringing fine. But you really need to back it up with proof. But we called Cam out on his inane font usage. Social media is fair game. Jesus, Gronkowski is dumber than a box of rocks and if he tweeted odd stuff it'd be perfectly fine to mock him for it. You're a public figure.

    Mocking is not racism.

it's just a little suspect they're going after (1) his hair, which is locks and extremely black, and (2) his register of speech, which is unapologetically AAE and extremely black. it feels like they're using robbie sucking and being a jerk as a vehicle to bag on black culture

  5. it has emotional resonance and is tied to team history, which is cool, but objectively i see why someone without prior attachment to it would want it gone. "keep pounding" sounds anthemic of always losing but trying really hard not to. it implies failure as the starting point and winning as the variable.

it really just is not that great.
