2027: Sharing my thoughts on the cap without a lotta research
cranky replied to MHS831's topic in Carolina Panthers
Prove it. Show me one thing Tepper has said over the past year that makes you think he still mkaes the roster decisions. I am fully aware of everyones' opinion here but I'm just not sure he hasn't learned his lesson and has backed off from making those decisions. I know, as the owner, he always has the final say but, again, I just think he's realized he is out of his depth when it comes down to talent evaluation. -

Not exactly. The Panthers' aren't locked into paying him $50M. It may be what has been done in the past with QB's coming off their Rookie contracts but it doesn't mean they have to do it. They can offer any kind of contract they want and Young can either accept it or not. -

I disagree. I don't think Morgan and Tilis will go that route and while everyone likes to talk of how Tepper will keep him, I doubt it. I think those decisions are Morgan's and Tilis's at this point. -

Really? In the last 8 games of the season, they had 4 games go into OT winning 3 of them. They took the lead against the Chiefs only for the defense to allow them to score for the win in the final minute. Against the Eagles, they were a dropped Legette pass away from a win. They beat the Falcons and Cardinals in OT scoring 36 and 44 respectively and while they lost to the Bucs in OT it was only because after Young threw a TD to Thielen with 30 seconds to go for the lead, the defense gave up a FG for the tie and then gave up a FG in OT. But really that is all besides the point. The point stands that total yardage is not the best indicator of a QB's value to a team. -

And yet even with gaudy numbers, they all still had bad records so it doesn't matter. -

Because the market will dictate his value and I doubt ( I could be wrong ) that any team would offer him top 10 QB money at this point in his career. Now if he thinks he is worth more, than my guess is the Panther's would let him test the market and see. I could see him thinking he was worth more but also realize he has to prove it for a couple of more years. A 3 year contract would be perfect for both the Panther's and him. -

See, now you think I am comparing Young to the other QBs - I'm not. I'm just illustrating how yardage isn't a good indicator of a teams success. And a teams wins/losses is all that really matters in the end. -

Not sure why everyone keeps talking about the Panthers paying him $50M/year. I don't recall anyone EVER saying he deserves that. I think something like what the Dolphins signed Malik Willis to would be good: 3 years, $67.5M but it will probably be something along the lines of Mayfield or Darnold which is around $35M/year. -

You are right saying Brissett would have passed for 4000 if he had played 17 instead of 12 games and yet the Cardinals still only went 3-14. Prescott threw for 4552 yards last season and the Cowboys only went 7-9-1. Burrows passed for almost 5000 yards in 2024 and yet the Bengals only went 9-8. On the other hand, in 2025, Hurts only passed for 3224 yards and the Eagles won the SB. It's easy to get lost in total yardage and a "strong arm". But all of that means nothing if the rest of the team isn't built correctly. I think the Panther's are building correctly so that Young doesn't need to pass for 4000 yards for them to have success. -

Are we reading that statement the same? Are you reading it as a top 10-12 rated QB? I read it as winning 10-12 games per year. Seems odd to put someone in a top 12 rating. So you are saying that playing a "high level game manager" type role can win a SB. Sounds like what the Panthers are trying to build. Anyway, regardless, I think Young should be paid according to his performance. Do I think he deserves to be paid as a top 10 QB even if he has a great 4th season - no. Top 10 pay requires more than trending in the right direction capped with one good season. I do believe he will play well and will be signed to a long term deal (3 years anyway) but not with a massive contract. -

That's suppose to be a 87.8 rating for Young. -

Why do you say that. What leads you to think that we, as supporters, think his ceiling is 10-12. That's a ridiculous assumption on your part. The Seahawks won the SB with Darnold passing for 25 TD's, 14 Ints with a 99.1 rating for the season. The Panthers with Young were at 23 TD's, 11 Ints and a 78.8 rating for the season. Not that far off. The problem with all the Young discourse around here is the assumption that the QB is the sole determining factor for a teams success. That just isn't true and it's certainly not how Morgan and Tilis are building the Panthers. -

It all sounds great. The only unknowns are injuries and how they will need to be addressed. Horn has a history as does the newly added Jaelen Phillips and Cooker has yet to play an entire season as well. And then there are the Ikey's - totally unexpecteded injuries that put a major wrench in your plans. I do think its a great plan though. -
Like I said, just someone's opinion. And I'm not complaining. Not sure why you think I am. I simply pointed out that stating an opinion is simply stating an opinion. Stating that same negative opinion over and over again over the past three years isn't stating opinion any longer, it's complaining. And I'm not griping about it or "complaining" about it. Just stating a truth. Everyone is free to complain all they want. I don't have to read it and usually don't as I've heard all the arguements.
-
Why do I need to "Gtfoh"? You have a problem with people who's values and beliefs don't fall in line with your own? I mean all I really pointed out was repeatedly stating the same negative thought over and over is the definition of complaining. I shutter to think how you would have reacted if I had actually said something positive about BY lol
-
Sure it is. I mean there are people ( professional prognosticators mind you ) who think he's a serviceable QB trending in the right direction. Of course with them, just like with you, it is simply their opinion. The difference between them and you is their name isn't listed on the top right page as a 'top huddlers in this topic" of every topic concerning BY.
-
First it's not reality, it's simply your opnion. Secondly, acknowledging anything repeatedly as nauseum becomes complaining.

BREAKING: Panthers sign QB Kenny Pickett
cranky replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
And you think there was a backup QB option out there that is significantly better enough than Pickett that could have outplayed BY? Because if not, all the moaning and groaning about Pickett, and the FO signing him, is nothing more than a bunch of whining. -
BREAKING: Panthers sign QB Kenny Pickett
cranky replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
This is some of the silliest stuff I have seen here in a while. Carolina had a great draft last season and is having one of the best off-seasons in years. In just 10 short months, they have almost completely rebuilt the roster going from a bunch of JAGs to a having a OROY, 2 Pro Bowl caliber players in Phillips and Lloyd, great young players with tons of potential in Scourton, Umanmielen, Evans, Horn JR, etc., and all some of you can talk about is how signing a backup player to a 4M contract makes you question how well the FO is doing. That's just crazy. -
Where did you get the "lot" part from?
-
You guys get worked up over the littlest things lol
-
Yeah, taking the stable thing too far can be just as bad as no stability. We will find out this season for sure.
-
His play calling and time management at times has been suspect but the organization has been extremely stable under his stewardship. Not sure how you can disagree with Kuechly on that point.

Nice little video with Kuechly's perspective on the state of the team. But does Kuechly work for the Panthers in some capacity? He keeps referring to the them as "we".

Mike Kaye: LB Devin Lloyd could be a realistic possibility
cranky replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
He had 4 INTS and 8 QB hits his first 3 years then had 5 INTs and 10 QB hits last year alone. Looks like they changed his role a little.
