  1. I am sure he will but considering we can franchise him for at least 2 years before he is making 20 million and there is no signing bonus and it is a series of 1 year contracts we get him for at least 7 years for less money than signing him long term. Getting 40 million guaranteed as a signing bonus is a strong incentive to sign. Plus Wilson has been more successful than Cam in less time. Cam has the stats but Wilson has what is valued in the league which is wins and stayed healthy. Truthfully Cam should not get as much as Wilson based on results.
  2. That is why this is really bad in my opinion. He didn't need to cheat to win so why do it ? Unless he wasn't sure of his team's ability to win or he wanted to win so badly he was willing to do anything to do it. The problem with that organization is not that they want to win so badly but the ends justify the means and they will do anything to win include bend or even break the rules.
  3. I hope and expect us to be fine. Remember it took Hardy and Johnson a few years to really be productive. DEs have to build up their repertoire of moves and strength in order to be able to attack the offense on passing downs as well as hold the edge. I think that Alexander and Ealy are going to come into their own. Plus both Horton and Addison. Need to step it up if they don't want to replaced . Given the push we are getting at the DT tackle position it makes it hard to double the DEs which should help the line in total. Given we also blitz quite a bit we can get pressure a number of ways.
  4. If fans and boosters start giving him money and perks to come here it will feel just like college all over again for him.
  5. It was warm and dry which is totally different. Deflating the balls helps catch it in cold or wet weather.
  6. No I am comparing violating the conduct rules which you can do a number of ways. This actually to me is similar to taking steroids. You are knowing doing something to gain an unfair competitive edge.
  7. I think Brady will be suspended. Otherwise the other players who have been suspended will be in an uproar. I don't want this to be a racial issue but I could see if a white player walks no matter how famous while Lewis, Hardy and other black players are punished, I promise you the race card will be quickly pulled out.
  8. So let me get this straight. She passed out for 8 minutes. During that time Brooks groped her, MacDonald then carried her to the bedroom at least partially undressed her and had sex with her and the whole thing took only 8 minute.? Either she woke up during the assault or MacDonald is a true 60 second man. the timeline just doesn't seem that plausible.
  9. I think that one of the problems is that too much of the offense is predicated around Cam. Sure he is a great athlete and will be an elite quarterback down the road. But when your whole offense is predicated around one player it is easier to shut that down which has happened in the past. If you have a good ground game and your receivers are both talented and can get significant YAC it makes it easier on Cam and the team. Couple that with a great defense and you can win whether Cam plays fantastic or not. And that is what you want. Cam needs to do his thing but he doesnt need to be the whole offense. It is a set up for him and the team. every QB has good and bad days. Playoff teams win on both days, mediocre teams only when the quarterback is playing well. We all saw what happens if Cam gets hurt, and ultimately it is inevitable to at least some degree over the course of the season. Our team needs to have the horses to win ven when he is struggling or the defensive scheme is designed to take away what he does well.
  10. Where are all the folks dissing this pick. When I was one of the earliest to say he could be a beast at his size I got a ton of comments about how slow he was, he had poor hands, poor route runner, and so forth. Suddenly we pick him and Gettleman says how great he will be and now everyone is singing his praises. Funny how the worm turns so quickly around here.
  11. So we have our Luke light as our backup middle linebacker. What a good story and a driven smart hard working guy with skills and a willingness to do whatever it takes to make the team. There is a whole to like here.
  12. You cant argue with the fact that Davis can still cover and he better understands where he has to be all of the time. It really takes a player a year or two to really learn this defense. Unless you are Kuechly who is a phenom. I can see real value when he can play both linebacker and safety in the nickel. Especially with Harper being a real liability in the passing game. Maybe he is right in that he will great because he has Kuechly and Davis to mentor him.
  13. I agree with you. I think that he will compete at weakside linebacker and learn how to play safety in practice until he is ready to start. He will learn as fast as he can and his effort hasn't been questioned so it will simply be a matter of getting enough reps at both positions in order to learn his responsibilities in this defense. As you know, McDermott's defense requires high accountability and any breakdowns can result in big gains for the opponent. I hope he is a quick learner and a good instinctive player. I like his athleticism but here we go again with the rookies. Call me biased but I like veterans to start until the rookies show they know what they should be doing all the time. Or have the speed to recover and minimize the damage. As a panther fan you have to hope he lives up to the faith the Panthers had in drafting him in the first round. I will be his biggest fan once he proves to be the best guy out there.
  14. As I said, we will draft a wide receiver tonight. Frankly I hope it is Justin Hardy. Still what Perriman had which we dont have on this team is 4.2 speed. Ginn isnt close anymore. Plus he has size and strength and can go up and make the catch. Benjamin is huge but is not a speedy guy who can blow off the top. Still I know that there are plenty of guy out there and trust Gettleman to make some good picks. And we have to move on and not dwell on the past. And honestly if Shaq can be a safety in this league then he will be worth the pick. I am not unhappy just wished we went another direction. As for the rest of the conversation about those that didnt like Kuechly, I was one of the main guys saying Kuechly would be fantastic. That was obvious. Frankly Shaq is a great athlete but isnt close to Kuechly coming out of college.
  15. I still wanted Perriman at this pick. We will see what Thompson can do and obviously we will pick a receiver in this draft. Still with 4.2 speed at that size, I think he would have been ideal for Cam.
  16. I want our line to be like Minnesota when they had the Williams brothers. You absolutely couldn't run inside. It made most teams one dimensional. Right now we don't have 2 run stuffers up the middle. With Star and Goldman we would have the twin towers inside.
  17. And if he ends up being another Kris Jenkins with a motor they will be eating a bunch of crow this time next year.. We used a second on Jenkins. Anyone think that was a bad move?
  18. After he had the whole offseason and training camp to practice. Different when you haven't played a game in almost 2 years and you haven't practiced with the team in almost 3 months during the suspension.
  19. Doubt he will be a force if that is his first game back. He wont be in football shape since he can't practice during that time. I imagine he will appeal it and might very well get it reduced though.
  20. You can't really compare the two. Anything you say about 2014 will be colored by how they did their rookie year. Anything about 2015 is a big unknown. For example Benjamin is being evaluated based on his rookie season not just on what type of potential he had coming out of college. While White, Cooper, and Parker are all unknown and we don't know who will boom or bust which will color our view of how big a prospect they were next year.
  21. Because. Rivera learned under Jim Johnson who believed in having big physical safeties in his system. Guys like Brian Dawkins were studs in the secondary and experts at dislodging receivers from the ball. He could play strong safety, free safety, or corner. We either need a big physical corner who can play free safety or a fast athletic safety with good pass defending skills.
  22. So far both DeAngelo and Stewart have not lived up to their draft position or the money they have been paid in the last several years. Williams was an fun exciting kind of runner who could be extremely effective when he got to the outside. Stewart is a powerful inside runner with good blocking and receiving skills. But injuries and lack of durability hurt both of them over the last few years. At least we were able to restructure their contracts to keep their cap hits from being even higher. We all know that we only kept Williams until we could release him and manage the dead cap hit. Anyone think we would still have Stewart if not for the huge dead cap hit after the 2013 season and multiple restructures.
  23. He accomplished all of those things in his first 3 years and was a huge value given how cheap he was on a rookie contract. He could legitimately claim he outplayed his rookie contract. But what has he done since since he got a 4 year 53 million contract? That would be no probowls, a rushing average of 4.2 yards per carry and 16 TDs in 3 years. So they cut him and the Jets picked him up on a 2 year deal for 8 million and didnt pick up his option of 500,000. Like I said if he had played out his rookie deal or at least kept up his production he would have been a great player but instead he was a great young player who got a huge contract and got a big head and never earned his money. That is a huge flameout for a guy who as you noted started his career so promisingly and may have had one one of the best years in NFL history. Plus many guy's career are cut short by injury but that hasnt been the case for him. Before responding with more simplistic concrete responses take the time to understand what I am saying. As an ECU graduate myself, I would not be disparaging someone I watched every week for years unless it was clear he flamed out due to issues he should have better managed like desire and effort.
  24. My like for Hardy was as a value pick not who I think we will pick or my first choice particularly in the first or second. And he would still fit us better than Agholor as Hardy is better going up for the ball, contesting catches and can adjust better to an inaccurate thrower which unfortunately is Cam's issue. Plus he is better blocking which is a necessity in our offense. So it isnt just the player but a fit for our offense. Agholor will be a great fit for a WCO offense and is a finished product but isnt really best suited for our team at this point, IMO. I would take a number of guys if I were Gettleman before Agholor including Perriman and Strong because they are bigger and more physical. I do worry about the hand though depending on where he broke the bone. Rehab could take 6 months which we dont have. Funchess is this year's Benjamin and I would take him over Agholor or Hardy in the second or third given his potential. My only concern is whether we are better off taking a lower ceiling higher floor guy like Agholor or Hardy who could start right away and will be good but not dominant or we try and get a big physical specimen with a high ceiling who may not be ready to start day one or may be like Benjamin and be inconsistent his rookie year. And I like DGBs potential but a questionable work ethic is a killer in a guy who needs plenty of polishing..
  25. I understand that you think that a 1000 yard season is a bench mark and it is to a casual fans or media which looks at the surface and don't look further. But to knowlegeable fans and the experts, raw numbers mean nothing unless they are in context. Plus the average length of time for a back stat includes guys who make the team as backups, or are on rookies contracts, not legitimate starters or first rounders. I am surprised you persist with such trite concrete thinking I would expect from a poster on ESPN, not someone here who claims some expertise. .
