Another Major Tailgating Lot Soon Gone

Spectrum Properties is planning a new office tower in uptown Charlotte and has lined up an anchor tenant for the project, according to real estate sources.

Insurance company MassMutual, or one of its affiliated companies, has agreed to lease approximately 200,000 square feet at the development planned for 300 South Tryon, sources say. Bordered by South Tryon, West Third and South Church streets, the vacant 1.6-acre property is owned by an affiliate of Cornerstone Real Estate Advisors, a real estate investment firm that planned to develop a mixed-use project with Spectrum at the site back in 2007.

Many of the other lots in Third Ward around the baseball park are also either under construction or will have construction on them in the near future.

Tailgating lots will come at a premium in the very near future.

I love seeing the parking lots go away, but at the same time, I hate that the tailgating scene will be diminished.

They are fading out our tailgating options quickly. I personally hate that it's happening. Did you see that they're building on one of the major lots on Morehead?

Yes, that project is called The Quarters at/on Morehead.

Most of the lots around the stadium at this point have projects planned for them.

Some of them may not happen for several years, but many are not far away from breaking ground or have already broken ground.

The land is simply too valuable to remain as parking lots and honestly, its a good thing for the city and businesses in Uptown.

That part of town was dead for all but 10 days a year. Now with the Panthers stadium, new apartments, new park, and new baseball park, it has more activity on it than almost anywhere else in Uptown.

    • Gunslingerly kind of guy. I would be fine taking a look at him but it would be in a scenario with a dependable veteran on the roster.
    • Its like we are intentionally not wanting a QB. If you could implant a saboteur into the organization to make sure we never get a franchise QB, he/she would do exactly what we have already done.
    • He is just Jameis Winston. He can't manage a game and he rarely will ever win a game. He will however be directly responsible for losing games. The truth is those old style gunslingers are just hard to work with because they put defenses in such bad positions too often. You have to win in spite of them which is basically what we are trying to avoid now. It's nor an accident that they both have career 0.414 and 0.316 winning percentages as starting QB's. Also not a surprise that while both are under 32 they have already been on 4+ NFL teams.  Not against bringing in a Winston/Howell but it would need to be in a 2-4 QB competition situation. Those guys are impossible to count on going into a season.
