In the arcade version of this game there is a "glitch".  Once you reach the top of the castle you can crouch in the corner and kill an unlimited number of ninjas earning you an unlimited number of extra men (remember those).  They come at you one at a time and are not hard to kill.  In 1987 the gas station by my house had one and I scored 34,000,000+ points and had 32 extra men.  Played for 4 or 5 hours non-stop on one quarter ($0.25) until my mom made me come home.
