Their 2010 draft was great. But look over some of their drafts over the past decade:

For example their 2006 draft:

1st.Maroney

2nd.Jackson

3rd.Thomas

4th.Mills

4th.Gostkowski

5th.O'Callaghan

6th.Mincey

6th.Stevenson

6th.Smith

7th.Andrews

Only Gostkowski (a talented kicker) is still on the team.

2008:

1st Mayo

2nd Wheatley

3rd O'Connel

3rd Crable

4th White

5th Slater

6th Bo Rudd

Mayo has been worth it. Slater led the team is ST tackles, but has not contributed anywhere else. White has started inconsistenley over the years but has played bad. The rest are off the team.

2004:

1st Wilfork

1st Watson

2nd Hill

3rd Scott

4th Reid

4th Cobbs

5th Sam

7th Morton

Wilfork has been outstanding. Watson wasnt bad and had a pretty good 06 year. But never consistnley played high enough for a first round pick. The rest didn't play impressivley and are off the team.

They have certainly had weak draft classes....but fact remains that 17 of their 22 starters they drafted or signed UDFA, and 2 others were picked up after 1 year. That, with their team success and that these home grown players are making PB appearances, says alot to me. I'm really confused about the Patriots hatred around here. It is what it is IMO.

A lot of the hatred stems from the Super Bowl loss. It was one that was so close, it still stings.

I get that...I'm a Mavericks fan and the Spurs have knocked us out several times when I felt we had a great team. You can't deny, however, how great they are at getting finding talent.

I have no affinity towards the Patriots at all...I just try to call em like I see em. You don't have to be a Broncos fan to realize the Raiders are the worst in the league, either!

No hatred here. Just disagree.

They've been impressive the last two years at drafting.

However while the fact that they have 17 of 22 is impressive, doesnt equate to them being the best at drafting. I'd imagine there are quite a decent number of teams with around that number or more.

They've drafted some great core players over the years. But that in itself doesn't mean there all that great. IMO they've just had a few too pretty weak draft classes to be considred the best.

1996 -2008 study ( Granted it includes four years before the Belicheck era But still 70 percent of its affected by 2000-2008)

They have different rankings for the patriots, but that's due to only two of the same years are in both studies. Take it for what there worth. But it gives some support of my argument. Niether of them rank them in the top 8 of best drafting teams.

If all one looks at is one aspect of my argument, it really isn't impressive. I am impressed by the totality of the evidence, that they drafted/UDFA 17 of 22 starters (plus all specialists), lead the league year after year in home grown Pro Bowlers, and have won mulitple championships in this era. I can see someone disagreeing with me about them being the best (I would respect an argument for Pitt) but I have a hard time understanding an argument that they arent elite.

Seems like only NE and Pitt can claim the above criteria....its pretty impressive.

Based on what? Over the past five years teams such as Indy,Dal,SD,Bal have all had more drafted pro bowlers then NE.

They havent won a championship in over six years.

Having 17-22 starters in 2011 doesnt repersent for any team how well they did over a extended period of drafting. Because its just one year. And some of the starters may actually perform bad. However I'll look up some other teams and compare.

All in all I dont see what theyve done recentley to be considred the best or even second best drafting teams.
