Maybe if rape weren't a crime that ruins your reputation for life, we'd be more willing to trust the accuser to start with, but rape is a serious crime and you need serious evidence to convict, like in any other crime.

It is awful rapists fall through the cracks but its equally bad when some's life is ruined for a crime they didn't commit. Brian Banks had his life's dream flushed away off a bogus claim and there are many more like him. Innocent until proven guilty is the mantra of our legal system, and to automatically assume the accuser (or the accused) is truthful with no evidence is simply not just. For better or worse the burden of proof is on the accuser and we'll hear her side in court.

The burden of proof is on the state, not the accuser.

The state is also responsible for bring charges to the accused. This almost always involves physical evidence as a precurser to issue a warrant against the accused party, not just a statement by an individual witness with nothing to back the claim up.

With the type of attorney Sharper can afford and considering the fact that he is a public figure, you can be assured that significant evidence was aquired prior to an arrest being made.

The majority of women who are raped do not report it for fear, shame, and plain and simply - often it's their word against the perpetrator.

 

It's sad that there are some women who have lied and ruined a man's life.

 

It's even sadder the women who never report the rape, who don't get help, and get judged when their lives go to hell because they never get past it.  

 

It's shameful that a small few dumb bitches ruin it for those who really go through this crime of power and are afraid or ashamed to come forward.

Having it be the same woman twice doesn't really sound sketchy to me.

I've heard stories before of a woman not reporting a rape out of fear/shame/whatever, and then the guy thinking "Hey I got away with it", which leads down the road to thoughts of "Why not go back for round two?"

Gore was charged with kidnapping and raping the same woman last spring. He got out of jail on $50,000 bond and GPS monitoring in October. He is back in jail under a $4 million bond.
