As a skeptic I find the possibility of demon possession to be highly unlikely.

That doesn't take away from my opinion that the Exorcist is one of the best horror films ever made.

I find the genre to be mostly bleh.

I only own 3 horror movies. The Exorcist, Jaws, and Silence of the Lambs.
These three have some things that most horror movies do not.
Well crafted stories, great acting, excellent character development, and an obvious lack of gratuitous gore/violence.

I also own Alien and Aliens, but I do not consider them "horror" but rather SciFi or Action flicks.

I remember the first time I saw The Exorcist. I was about 14 and I had never laughed so hard in my entire life.

the best horror movies are the ones where you DONT see the monsters/bad guys...suspense is a great scare tactic

Dunno.

Might want to ask a real fan of the genre. Maybe Mr. Scot.

It has most of the elements that make up a "horror" film IMO.

If you want to call it "suspense" or a "thriller" I don't care. I just know it is well done and wonderfully acted.

Does it fit into the horror genre? Not really.

Is it one of the scariest films ever though? Definitely.

It will get me laughed at I'm sure but what the hell...

Kalifornia

Underrated and overlooked film that illustrated quite plainly that sometime people don't need to have a reason to kill, sometimes they are just broken "evil" monsters.

I thought the third Exorcist movie was pretty creepy, the one with the Gemini killer. The plot and acting weren't great, but that lady that played the dementia patient that crawled on the ceiling still creeps me out.

Another good one was The Believers with Martin Sheen. http://en.wikipedia....i/The_Believers
