But, if Auburn opponents were playing catch-up and not running the ball, Fairley would have fewer "tackles" per game.

Touché :blush5:

Love how you discount individual stats....and then use another individual stat to try and prove your point.

I added that part in because of all the others being thrown around.

Fact is that both had fantastic seasons. Both are freak athletes. And none of us have a clue how he will perform in the NFL.

Absolutely agree with you here. I still believe Suh is on a different level. That being said, if Fairley is/can be on that same level, as some believe, I would be ecstatic to have him on our team.

Individual stats do not tell the whole story my friend.

Fairley played for an Auburn team that averaged 41.2 PPG. Meaning opposing offenses were playing catch-up most of the games. Auburn's offense allowed their DL to pin their ears back on almost every play.

Nebraska's offense averaged only 25.1 PPG in 2009.

Also, Fairley averaged about 4 tackles/game. Suh averaged about 6 tackles/game. Two tackles per game may not seem like much, but in the NFL it is the difference between Jon Beason (121) and Kirk Morrison (89)

Suh was also in his 5th year with Nebraska and we are comparing a 5th year senior in Suh to a Junior in Fairley... @_@

We don't have a DT as far as I'm concerned, it's absolutely our biggest need.

Coefield is more of a NT type no? Fairley is classic UT, gap penetrator. I'd love to land Coefield, but we still need two DT's.

We need both, imo plus a back up NT...@_@

Landing both Fairley and then a NT or two from FA would be awesome and absolutely needed for the team.

See OP...

To say Fairley had an amazing junior season would be an understatement and he was arguably every bit as dominant as Ndamukong Suh was as a senior at Nebraska, which is really saying something.

That was the point of this thread. Comparing seasons, not potential. Either way I'll still take Suh.

Why not? We have the number 1 pick...

I read the OP, what I'm saying is no one know how much better Fairley gets in that that extra year. How much more str and weight he adds to his frame.... ext....

The discussion about Suh and Fairley on who you would rather have is stupid. Suh is a Detroit Lion and isn't coming to Carolina any time in the near future...

However Fairley is a real option at position of need for Carolina.

Also the fact that Draft sites are comparing him favorable to Suh and Sapp is pretty damn impressive.

I was not arguing against drafting Fairley. And, believe it or not, I do realize that Suh plays for Detroit. I was simply trying to make the point that, all the draftniks comparisons of Fairley to Suh and Sapp, although impressive, are a bit of a reach. He's not there yet. Might he be one day, who knows? He may end up being a first ballot HOFer. If so I hope like hell we do draft him.
