Cutting him next year will result in only a 5 million dollar cap penalty. The cap will be going up a lot pretty soon, so I guess that's where it will land next year if we decide to sign J-Stew.

Cutting him next year is a cap hit of over 9 million dollars, so it would cost more to cut/trade Dwill this season or even next season then for him to just stay.

DWill's cap hit's if he was cut or traded.

2012 - 17.8 (Traded - 12.8)
2013 - 9.6 cut or traded
2014 - 6.4 cut or traded
2015 - 3.2 cut or traded

It's not cost effective to cut or trade him till 2014 and then it would only save the team roughly 2 million. The cap is expected to remain flat till the new ESPN TV deal kicks in, which will be for the 2014 season. It's almost impossible for the Panther's to resign Stewart given Williams deal as they will be over the cap before the season starts each of the next 2 seasons. His deal would have to be incredibly back loaded and filled with option bonuses for it to even work.

Give it some time, bro. You'll see.

We're stuck with Dwill and we're fuged. You know it to be true.

Tolbert was paid like a FB, so you're still wrong

. Tolbert is near par with Stewart on blocking and receiving, the offense did not heavily use Stewart in the running game, and Newton will continue to improve his passing. Losing Stewart will not seriously jeopardize this offense

When did Stew become a better outside runner than Williams?

Stewart was used heavily in the run game.....look at Cam and Stewarts combined yardage and how much of that was off the read option between the 2 of them.

Losing the read option ability would be a huge blow. Cam got Chud to add that.

Where is there a stat to show how much? Williams and Tolbert can be used in the same manner. Newton will be in his third year passing, opening up the run game even more. This offense does not need that read option ability to be very potent.

Don't have a stat...but from watching they were running the read option most for most of there combined yardage....and on many of Willliams pitch options. Williams did more traditional runs or was the pitch man.

Williams wasn't used bc #1 he had no prior experience with it and 2 it relies on the RB running between the tackles. Stewart was the ideal fit.

Offense doesn't need it. But it was the most efficient run game in the NFL bc of it. It turned into practically our most used formation to run out of.

I mean watch a highlight vid....and pay attention to how many of the run plays for Stewart and Cam come off the read option. It was a big tweak Chud made at Cam request and he killed teams with it.

Nothing personal but I'm certianley not going assume your right on a number based on what you remember months ago.
Besides Newton's half of the combined yards, doesn't matter. He can achieve that with Williams or Tolbert, because he is the one running.

Williams and Tolbert have two whole offseasons to expirence it. While Stewart is better at it, Williams and especially Tolbert are pretty capable at running between the tackles. Losing Stewart in now way means the loss of our read option.

To me, Deangelo is the type of guy that will restructure for us to clear cap space in the future. I am not worried about it.

PS: Tolbert is not in shape enough to be a full time guy, and if we trade Stewart, I'll be really really distraught.
