i was waterboarded for a student protest in february 2007. i didn't have the music but i got a pretty good feel of it. i lasted 12 seconds by holding my breath, but eventually water got into my nose.

it triggers your mammalian gag reflex, something that is never supposed to happen unless you're in imminent danger of death. your body affectively stops listening to your mind, your esophagus closes, and you start feeling your extremities shut off.

I'm curious, because I've never heard the term, what's the difference between a "mammalian gag reflex" and a standard gag reflex?

uh oh you might have to do some more extensive research!
Thanks. I already googled it. I'm not that lazy. Neither my google search nor your search link provides any link to the words "mammalian gag reflex," in that order......
