Hurney developing a bad..

39 posts in this topic

OP just couldn't have posted this in the 5 other Hurney/Williams threads. Just needed the attention that badly, and what a shitty post it was.

Burn in hell.

What doest the term "no offset language" mean, exactly?

Source? Oh you clearly made that up because your mad we couldn't afford to sign Vincent Jackson.

In other news white quarterbacks hate Cam because they fear he ushered in a new era.

Jake Delhomme didn't have offset language.....so when we cut him and he went to play in Clev we still paid him while he played for the Browns (and we helped make Jake one of the richest if not the richest men in the league for a season)....despite being a washed up bench warmer.

Hurney magic

Offset language would have kept us from paying Jake when he inked with another team.

...reputation among league GMs. The genie got let out of the bottle with the Williams and Johnson contracts. DWills deal took the top off the Peterson/Johnson negotiations and CJ contract influenced Avril's reluctance tosign long term. Now the top 8 picks (ex RGIII)are sitting out waiting for the offset language to disappear after Hurney gave in months ago.

Marty may be sitting at his own table for the next GM conference with a placemat for Mr. "F**king" Marty Hurney.

so our GM is making it harder for other teams to do their jobs?

maybe we should give him a raise.

The OP's point to making the connection with Avril's contract demands being inflated bc of CJ's contract has some merit. However the reason Avril did not get this is that he did his punishment in a contract year playing alongside other above average Or elite D lineman.

Avril had one breakout season where CJ demonstrated his abilities even in a rotation and match the productivity upon the increase in snaps. CJ however was playing with castoffs on the Dline while doing it and was a free Agent on a team where he is the best lineman..

Avril can be replaced easier than CJ here..I would not trade CJ for Avril. DE is more than about sacks and CJ sniffs HB screens, runs and disrupts the edge on the regular...now if Suh was collapsing the pocket in the middle CJ has 15 sacks and Hardy 8-10.

Realistically, the "bad guy" position among NFL GMs is a rotational one.

GM for Team X gives his star player a contract for a jillion dollars. GM for team Y, who has a player at the same position either in negotiations or about to be, says "son of a...now the price is up for my guy" and sets out to negotiate with the knowledge that his player's agent will now look at what the player for Team X got as a starting point.

Eventually, GM for team Y gives his player an even bigger contract. At that point, the GM for team Z, who has a player at the same position either in negotiations or about to be, says "son of a..." and sets out to blah blah blah, the cycle continues.

The vast majority of Hurney's stuff was done last year. If you're looking for a villain of the moment, I might think Mickey Loomis is a better candidate because teams with quarterbacks soon to be in need of extension or renegotiation are now...well, you get it.

I go back and forth with Marty, but I honestly like his style and we could be in worse shape. Marty's not perfect, but any of you who think he's leaving any time soon need to understand that him selecting Cam basically bought him another 3-5 years here minimum.

I recall watching the NFL draft and Bill Polian, who didn't leave Charlotte on good terms with the Panthers, gave him a ringing endorsement on national TV by calling Marty Hurney "an excellent GM."

Polian knows a thing or two about building winning franchises.

Just look at teams like Chicago, Washington, and for a very long time Oakland. Yikes. None of those teams have a clue of what's going on.

Market sets the price. EVERY YEAR!

I predicted the cost of CJs contract in Janurary, 6 months before his contract waz signed.

It's not difficult.

CJ was the best free agent defensive end that offseason. There was no doubt he was going to get paid big. whether it's for us, or another team.

Teams have to be willing to pay what the market dictates.
