why would anyone ever mention either dakota. not sure many even know they are states.I hate the way Yankees call NC "Carolina". Do they call North Dakota "Dakota"?

just lump the entire state into NYC. it pisses them off more.
ex:
"hey, I'm from Rochester"
"oh what part of the city is that in?"
"...that's upstate NY"
"is that near manhattan?"
gets 'em every time.
