NEW YORK -- Arizona pitcher Ian Kennedy has been suspended for 10 games and Diamondbacks infielder Eric Hinske for five for their roles in a brawl this week, while managers Don Mattingly and Kirk Gibson have been given one-game bans.

In all, eight members of the Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers organizations were suspended Friday by Major League Baseball Senior Vice President Joe Garagiola Jr.

He cited Kennedy for intentionally throwing a pitch at the head of Zack Greinke after a warning had been issued on Tuesday night and Hinske for leaving the dugout and "aggressive actions." Mattingly was penalized for his conduct and Gibson for Kennedy's actions following a warning.

Dodgers pitcher J.P. Howell and infielder-outfielder Skip Schumaker were suspended two games apiece for "aggressive actions" and Los Angeles hitting coach Mark McGwire two games for his conduct.

Los Angeles pitcher Ronald Belisario was suspended one game for "aggressive actions."

All eight were fined, as were four additional players.

Thank God Greinke and Puig were not suspended. LOL at McGwire.

It was the right call.

Kennedy hit Dodgers in the head TWICE.

He should have gotten 30 games at least. 8 game suspension for an every 5th day pitcher is only a 3 game suspension.

Big whoop.

Greinke never went above the midsection as should all problems in MLB be handled by the players.

Glad Baseball saw that.

Yasiel does it again!  Solo homer in the first, and then a go ahead RBI in the 8th to lead the Dodgers to victory over the Giants!

Puig homers again, raises his average to .443, and Kershaw goes 9 striking out 8 in a complete game shutout!

Dodgers now 2.5 back of first place....

This turn around has been fun to watch. Puig/Ramirez/Gonzales is a modern day murderers row. If Matt Kemp ever returns to form, wow.

Nice to see Kershaw finally get some runs and go complete game and not have the bullpen blow the lead as they have lately. The best pitcher in baseball still allowing less than 2 runs per 9 innings.

The Dodgers added Carlos Marmol to the bullpen today in a trade with the Cubbies, hopefully a change of scenery will return him to All Star form.

DENVER (AP) -- With a few minor adjustments to his mechanics, the Los Angeles Dodgers believe they can resurrect the career of reliever Carlos Marmol.

The Dodgers acquired the struggling closer from the Chicago Cubson Tuesday for right-hander Matt Guerrier.

''He's still got a lot of youth to him,'' Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti said in a conference call before a game in Denver. ''He's not on the downside of his career. He needs, perhaps, a change of scenery and an adjustment with his delivery.''

Colletti said the team detected flaws in Marmol's mechanics, something they feel confident can be worked out. Marmol is currently in the Dominican Republic, but should report to the team soon.

''Anytime you can add somebody who's had success pitching the ninth, you can always use them in roles that don't include the ninth,'' Colletti said. ''If you need the ninth, you've got somebody that's at least experienced. We're looking to add to the pen. Whatever that role becomes, it will become.''

The Cubs designated Marmol for assignment last week. He was 2-4 with two saves and a 5.86 ERA in 31 appearances this season, striking out 32 while walking 21 batters.

An All-Star as a setup man in 2008, Marmol's best year as a closer was 2010, when he had 38 saves in 43 chances along with 138 strikeouts and 52 walks.

''His stuff is power stuff,'' manager Don Mattingly said. ''At the end of the day, he helps us. We know he's a guy that has good stuff and has a potential to be nasty.''

A quick look at the MLB standings and everything looks normal....

Wait, what's that?!  The Dodgers are in first place in the West?!! Just a month ago they were buried!

Hopefully the form continues, and they can pad this lead.  Another month like this, and the boys in blue can start printing playoff tickets!!

Yea that was a monster comeback.  Hopefully Kemp gets back in the fold again soon.  The lineup is already pretty loaded, but when you throw his bat in there it keeps pitchers up at night..

I'm worried Kemp will never be healthy again.  Guy is like the glass man out there.

The last month and a half has been so much to watch after the last couple years of mediocre baseball.

15 straight road wins for the Dodgers tonight.

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Zack Greinke made himself right at home. Just like the rest of the Los Angeles Dodgers have been doing for almost a month.

Greinke pitched into the seventh inning and raised his average to .405 with an RBI single, helping the Dodgers win their 15th straight on the road with a 3-2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday night. This is the sixth city during the streak.

''I think we kind of thrive on an us-against-the-stadium mentality,'' catcher A.J. Ellis said. ''It really brings out the best in ourselves.''

Nick Punto was productive subbing for injured shortstop Hanley Ramirez and the Dodgers got an RBI apiece from Andre Ethier and A.J. Ellis while matching the Cincinnati Reds' 15-game run in 1957. They're two wins shy of the NL record set by the 1916 New York Giants.

Now 6 games up in the West, only the Braves have a bigger Division lead.

Sure wish it was October already.

Down 6-1 in the 8th?

No problem!

The Blue just keeps on rolling scoring 2 in the 8th and 4 in the bottom of the 9th for the win.

You know who gets them started in the 8th with the RBI double.

Still batting a scintillating .379.
