  1. Enjoyable read. I don't know about the John Fox comment however. I think that his tenure, especially the latter part, was unduly affected negatively by the business side of football, leaving him with mere facades of complete teams.
  2. I always say that we won't know what to expect until the soonest after September. I guess that now that the Gettleman and Rivera era has set in---after a franchise historical roller coaster, and the transition from Hurney's era largely over---I guess that I will jump out of the shell of guarded optimism to expecting excellence every single year henceforward. How nice it is to be a Panthers fan! Super Bowls are in our future.
  3. Propagandamachine threads require an acquired taste. I don't think IQs necessarily have to take a hit from reading them, but that they must be looked at like cards in a Rorshach test. In that sense, some of them are quite fascinating and perhaps can teach you a little about him, yourself, and other Huddlers.
  4. Damn, Philly, and I thought that I put too much time into the Panthers (and sports in general according to my better half). Those paintings are remarkable.
  5. One of our strengths (except in a monsoon, LOL) is controlling time of possession by slowing the game down with methodical, workman-like drives. If we can keep (what should be) a motivated Rodgers off the field 60 percent of the time, then I believe our chances of victory are more than good.
  6. As much as it pains me to say it, Smith is a natural Raven, and that fan base rightfully appreciates and loves 89. It is a shame that it ended like it did here. Dave Gettleman and many here basically said that Smitty had outlived his usefulness on the gridiron. Well, that was wrong. After all the spilled blood and guts in reference to his departure, I just don't see a return happening. His legend has grown though---through it all---and I fully expect to see his bust in Canton one day.
  7. Thanks for reminding me about Davis and Graham. Davis did basically (pistol)whip that boy here last season. In other words, Davis was on dat ass!
  8. To be honest, I would rather all parties involved be more concerned with Norwood and our playbook than Norwood and Seattle's. This will be a game about our validation and/or the Seahawks demise. I suspect they are going to try and take Olsen out like they pretty much did in the playoffs (though Chancellor was torched by Eifert last week). That, and the fact that those mid-level underneath routes may be the consistently best way to attack their secondary, could make Norwood's skill-set valuable in this game (including the noted ability in his scouting reports to help his QB out when plays break down).
  9. The only thing that would make this sweeter is if it was the Falcons.
  10. Isn't it funny that the lacking areas are those that everyone thought they were on offense and defense? Funny how that works. It's only one game...against the lowly Jags.
  11. I am always somewhat surprised by other fan's lack of general football knowledge, but then I must remember that that such ignorance is cherry-picked.
  12. Enjoyed the pics, Jeremy, but I don't agree with your comment about having to trade for a receiver. There are probably two or three receivers out there right now that may be not be glamorous, but just may provide an instant upgrade. There are probably a couple of more that would likely be intriguing.
  13. Why doesn't Shula call a sweep sometimes? He just keeps running into a brick wall.
  14. My, oh my. They certainly aren't the brightest fans in the NFL.
  15. Carolina likes last names that begin with B. First names, meh. Plus, Brandons only last here for so long. It's that black cat.
  16. Well, no one said that we've got to do something out of silliness. At least I know that neither myself, Proudiddy or CRA have suggested anything of the sort. What we've suggested, and have been suggesting, is to make changes that make sense. Making changes that make sense, no matter how small, may marginally improve your situation, or just may surprise you with even more. Now, if you don't believe that it makes sense, then that's a different argument, but let's not be patronizing and make the discussion about someone being "silly". Furthermore, sometimes you have to do things in the short term just to get by. This is especially true when a crisis happens. You may decide to ride it out, or you may decide to do something on a temporary basis in such a way that the long term really isn't affected. That is possible. Sitting by doing nothing can be just as silly and detrimental to the long term as your suggestion that making a useless move would have. Short term responsibilities and long term responsibilities can be mutually exclusive, but they don't have to be. It just depends on how one wants to manage the situation. Edit: Basically, you can think somewhere between Gettleman and Hurney, and still make things work and get to where you want to go.
  17. No. The old logic that since we can't make a big change, we may as well not make any changes at all. "Oh, they're no good because teams have passed on them" kinda logic, regardless if teams are light years ahead of us regarding receiving depth. That makes no difference. Moreover, God forbid that Ricky Proehl can actually help make an ex-thousand yard receiver that flashed repeatedly in last season's playoffs just as good as he was when he went over 1000 yards. Ricky Proehl would hate to work with a receiver who actually showed that he could consistently be near WR2 levels and possibly a WR1 on good days. We'll just keep fielding the double Bs and wonder why we''re bereft of TDs. Gimme a break, Scot.
  18. If you think that Philly Brown and Brenton Bersin are better than Hakeem Nicks and Denarius Moore, then I have a piece of lakefront property in Florida to sell you. Any upgrade, however marginal that it is, or you may think that it is, is an upgrade. At the very least, simply because of their past body of work and the fact that they are still relatively young, should give them some benefit of doubt in regards to our lackluster receiving corps. That's just how it is.
  19. You know, on second thought. I remember when the Mustang 5.0s came out. The NC Highway State Patrol said that theirs would catch anything on the road at that time. Those 5.0s were some humming growling sumbitches! I fell in love with the way the car sounded because you could just hear the power. Well, I remember the first time that this dang blasted thing pulled up to my car. iI kinda looked like a mustang, and it said mustang, but I'll be damned if that thing growled like a mustang when it took off. They had bastardized Mustangs with 4 cylinder engines! I immediately labeled them "fake Mustangs!" I don't want no fake Mustang! Don't try to tell me that thing is a Mustang because it don't sound like a Mustang and it don't perform like a Mustang! I don't know what it is, but it's not a Mustang. I'd rather have a Corolla, Impala, Stratus, anything...but not that fake ass Mustang.
  20. What's the name of that Cadillac that came out late 80s-early 90s that was a poor excuse for a Cadillac? That's what Brown is.
  21. I know I have basically said it before in so many words (and it may have even been in this thread), that it seems to me that people just don't realize how...bland our wide receiving corps is (and I'll let people define "bland" how they like). To me it seems like it just won't take too much to spice it up. Sure we may not have the Grill Mates Montreal Steak Seasoning (which is delicious on chicken, I might add), but perhaps that Supreme Tradition Salt Free Seasoning from Dollar Tree might do wonders for that flank steak that would otherwise turn out like unseasoned beef jerky without adding anything to it.
  22. What gets me is how many of you believe that there is just this big group of Huddlers that expects Gman to bring in a WR1. That is a myth. Personally, I haven't seen anyone say that. Help just means an improvement upon what you already have, especially in this situation. Now some of you may just want to overlook obvious help in your zeal to rail against some sky-is-falling narrative that may or may not exist, but there are other options out there that may be better than what we already have. Gman has already shown you that, regardless of whether you believe Norwood can help or not.
