Preach. He was always going to have to win the division at a minimum. Tepper had known since September what he wanted for our next coach. Wilks was going to have to prove he could fit the mold and he failed epically on a big stage. He had a fair shot and blew it. Can’t wait to see who we land on.

It’s not my first choice but I’d get excited pretty quickly about Sean Payton. Absolutely elite coach and also easy to forget how great he was at identifying talent in the draft. I have no doubt he’d have us winning games quickly

Could anything make you quit the team?

Don’t think it can. His current title per Wikipedia is co-defensive coordinator. This should qualify as a step up.

Ben Johnson HC Vic Fangio DC is a fuging dream. Young, bright, innovative offensive mind paired with an elite defensive coach that has HC experience

I’m not saying it would be smart or responsible but if we made a serious play for Payton it could lead to Derek Carr coming here. At this point in Payton’s career I’m not sure he wants to develop a young QB

I’m close to getting my bottle of champagne ready

come on baby

Yeah, not sure. But just because coaches have never been on the same staff doesn’t mean they haven’t met through other means.
-
Yep. There is a gap after these two for me right now.

I am very pleased with how we’re handling this process. Do not give into the pressure of hiring a mediocre coach that will keep us exactly where we have been our entire existence. Talking to potential coordinators of your new coach is incredibly forward thinking. Give me Shane or Ben and let’s finally try something different for once.

Sounds like there’s a clear top two manifesting here.

Market could be changing. Chargers immediately become the best job on the market. I’m sure they’ll go for Payton but still. If they like one of the coordinators we’re after…

That won’t happen and never will so it’s hard to know

Evero is interesting. Broncos D was elite basically all year and he also has experience coaching offense. I know this is just a Rooney Rule but I’m a huge fan

To be fair the season ended a week earlier then

It like, never works out.

ALSO We of course all know Wilks was a disaster in Arizona, which obviously wasn’t all his fault. But we also know our defense definitely didn’t get any better under his command. He led maybe the worst defense in all of college football in his one year at Missouri last year. I beg to know what he’s really excelled at aside of being a DB coach. I mean I’m sorry, but a 53 year old coach whose shining achievement is a 6-6 record against one of the worst schedules in football?
-
Preach. My biggest fear with Wilks is that he keeps us on this perpetual treadmill of mediocrity. Nowhere close to winning anything meaningful, but also doing just enough each year to convince yourselves one strong offseason can be all that’s needed to take that next leap. I’d rather our next coach fail epically, crashing and burning with like a 2-15 season hopefully in a year with a franchise passer. I’d rather have that than this steady poo of 5-7 win seasons.

10/14 coaches in the playoffs came from offensive backgrounds before being an HC. Get with the times

Please, tell me who’s missing from this list that you want added

They could have their eye on guys still coaching which can make things tricky

Could we maybe stickey this as the big coaching search thread instead of seeing 20 new threads pop up each day? Random gut feeling my money is on Steichen or Johnson

I’d like it for McCaffrey
