There was a lot of talk that some team (including potentially us) might trade for him but it never materialized.

Jets traded away a TE

I'd agree. Jacob Hollister is one name I wonder if we'd look at. Having him would conceivably allow us to release two of our current tight ends.
-
Don't know a single thing about him, but what a great name

Less than an hour to go on one final move, but remember they just have to process the paperwork by 4pm. They don't have to announce it.

A hip sounds more convincing than a finger "Look, I'm limping...See?"

Or four TEs and a fullback...

This sound familiar?

Newton's got too many years to go on waivers.

With Thomas Fletcher being placed on season ending IR, J Jonah Jameson Jansen sticks around for one more year. Jansen is a reliable snapper and generally considered one of the most likable guys on the team.

Update from Gantt... They released veteran cornerback Rashaan Melvin as part of the moves. That will leave them young in the secondary for the first two weeks of the season. The Panthers also waived safety Kenny Robinson, waived/injured running back Reggie Bonnafon and placed rookie long snapper Thomas Fletcher on season-ending injured reserve.

Could see Shi Smith as a PUP candidate.

Nothing saying that he asked for it, but Conor Orr theorizes that Belichick could have let Newton go in part to give him a chance to start somewhere else. The flaw in this theory: I don't know that there's a realistic chance of him starting anywhere else.

"Ouch! My finger!"

Patriots insider Tom Curran did a pretty thorough analysis of their preseason pay beforehand and wrote that Jones should win the starting job but didn't know if he would. Breer and a lot of other NFL analysts are patting him on the back for it now.

I'm not even talking about that. I just think going out and buying a jersey for a guy who's never played a single down in the NFL is a bit presumptuous.

Dallas wouldn't surprise me.

I'm not so sure of that. Josh McDaniels and Cam Newton were always kind of a mismatch. Fair or not, I doubt he'd have preferred Newton's skil set and playing style over Jones as a fit for how he wants to run an offense.

Field Yates is way ahead of ya...
