S2 Cognitive test points to NFL Success
Mr. Scot replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah, NFLPA would never go for that. Even with the best of intentions, you know once the scores got out it'd be all over sports media that "Star Player X scored low on his cognitive test". -
I remember once I think my junior year, coach got called away for something mid practice session and his usual assistants weren't there that day for some reason so it fell to us to run our own practice. You can probably imagine how that went

NFL.com ranks Carolina 2022 draft class as worst in NFC South
Mr. Scot replied to rebelrouser's topic in Carolina Panthers
So that whole thing of not giving up a sack for over half a dozen games or so (I forgot the final total) was accomplished by a blocker who's "not good"? -
I've seen a lot of people put that label on Wilson. I get it, but I think the reality might be that he's just kinda weird A lot of his persona can be traced to a positive thinking guru named Trevor Moawad. Wilson has described Moawad as his "best friend" and credited him for a lot of his success. (for the record, Moawad passed away last year from a brain tumor; people who know Wilson say that had a huge effect on him) I've read a little about Moawad and a lot of his ideas boil down to the notion that you can prevent anything negative from affecting you by basically just denying it or not acknowledging it. That kind of thinking sure does sound a lot like Wilson. (pretty sure Scientology has some similar tenets, for what it's worth) Before he died, Moawad had gained a number of famous clients including other NFL players and NFL adjacent guys like Ryan Leaf. As far as I know though, Wilson was his most famous acolyte.

He would, but The Athletic interviewed over a dozen people as part of this story. I'd add that while that one detail is likely what everyone is most interested in, it's far from the whole story. Last season in Denver was nuts
-
I watched the whole thing. It was...interesting
-
I'm probably about halfway in to the second story by Kalyn Kahler, Mike Sando and Jayson Jenks about Wilson's first year in Denver. Lemme tell ya, "holy sh-t" doesn't even begin to cover it. This is wild.

Meanwhile in Tampa... Florio kinda has a point here

Have always loved the notion that one season is enough to definitively judge a draft pick- 34 replies

I knew it was going to get strange when McVay did return yet still told his staff they were free to seek other opportunities. Worked out for us, of course...

Key phrase in all this: Wilson felt Carroll and Schneider were inhibiting his quest to win additional Super Bowls and individual awards. Oy

Remember when everybody was freaking out about Deion Sanders getting 35 million?
-
For those who hadn't seen this in the "Around the League" thread... I feel pretty comfortable saying this is going to be a big deal in the sports talk room for the next little bit Some additional background can be found in another story from The Athletic staff about Wilson's first year in Denver. From the article... Convinced that Carroll and Schneider were inhibiting his quest to win additional Super Bowls and individual awards, Wilson asked Seahawks ownership to fire both of them, according to league sources who spoke to The Athletic on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the details. Wilson also had a preferred replacement in mind: Sean Payton, who had recently stepped down from the New Orleans Saints.

Regarding runningbacks...
-
Granted, you have to evaluate the veteran properly and we didn't have the people who could do that. I think we do now.
-
A note from the article linked above... When he finished his presser, Brown shook hands with every reporter and photojournalist before making way for Staley. Man, I like this guy
-
That's a very different discussion... It was always fun to watch when Luke would notice something and go apesh-t right before a snap

Rams are honestly in kind of a weird spot with McVay right now.
-
That's possible too

Setting aside whether you want him here or not, the comment that it's fair market for a good vet is probably true. We signed Bridgewater for around 20 million if I remember right. That was fair for a veteran at the time. With inflation and the cap going up, 35 is probably a good figure now.
