There's a lot to like about him. Being a defensive coach puts him behind the 8 ball though. And of course they'd be people saying "Why didn't you just hire Wilks?"
-
It was.
-
Pretty much. Payton's in demand with multiple suitors.
-
Yeah.
-
Yeah, that was him
-
Other inside sources have said the same.

Like who? -
It's pretty tough to take him seriously after the Brian Daboll comments. Actually, it's been pretty hard to take him seriously for a long time.
-
Wilks success with hinge pretty heavily on his staffing choices.
-
He was a consultant with the Saints for a few years before taking an official job with them. He's done okay with their drafts. He'd be subservient to Payton in this role of course since Payton wants final say.
-
Because the teams he's interviewed for so far look prone to going either younger OC or Sean Payton. The Cardinals are still a wild card, of course.
-
Valid, But it's also true that Olsen is extremely football smart. He knows what he's talking about. For the record, Olsen has been supportive of Ken Dorsey as well.

I don't want another full control coach. Don't care who they are... -
Profile of Shane Steichen, who speaks highly of our old friend Norv Turner... From the article... Turner, who was a head coach for three NFL teams and an offensive coordinator for seven, is Steichen’s biggest influencer as a play caller. He helped Steichen break into the NFL in 2011. Steichen has since ascended the coaching ranks and spent seven years on the Chargers’ offensive staff before Eagles coach Nick Sirianni handed him the play-calling duties in the middle of the 2021 season. “I thought Norv just had an unbelievable feel for the game, calling the game, when to call shots,” Steichen said. “He always said, ‘Shoot, the best games I’ve ever called is when I really am not looking down at the call sheet.’” If he were the hire, he might call on Scott or Cam Turner to be part of his staff, or look to other Turner connections.

Rooney Rule obligations have now been completed. Thus, the Panthers can now make a hire if they so choose. That doesn't necessarily mean they'll do anything immediately. They could still take their time. FYI: Looks like the Broncos have too.

The only way he could bring Ireland along would be as replacement GM. Anything else would be a lateral move. -
From USA Today's Saints writer John Sigler, regarding the Cardinals hire of Monti Ossenfort as GM... And the Cardinals never so much as met with Payton’s presumed preferences for the job — Saints personnel executives like Jeff Ireland and Khai Harley, and their former scouting director Ryan Pace. New Orleans won’t allow Payton to bring Ireland or Harley with him as lateral moves, so it seems they won’t have an inroad to Arizona with Ossenfort taking over. (Link) Similar speculation from other sources suggested that the Cardinals hiring a "non-Payton approved" GM might lessen their chances of getting Payton. Jeff Ireland would certainly make sense as someone who could come along with Payton to do the legwork under a Payton "full control" umbrella. Ireland interviewed for the Panthers GM job last time around but didn't make it past the first round.

It's expected Payton wants to bring someone like Jeff Ireland along with him, and possibly some other members of the Saints front office. Saints Wire It makes sense. He'd have final say and people he knows doing the legwork. -
Greg Olsen makes his case...

Ken Dorsey interview now scheduled

Said he'd coach the Texans too... I think he likes everybody right now.
