I wish I could share that optimism but unfortunately I cannot. It's in Tepper's nature to be controlling, which has been said about his business successes(and failures). Also, at his age, I don't expect him to be able to learn a different way of operating. Let's hope you are right but I suspect it will remain Tepper micromanaging until he is no longer the owner of this franchise.

I get the scheme fit but you create a hole that has to be filled, you don't save cap space and possibly you end up creating a "reach" need in the draft. It just seems like a very Panthers way to handle it.

Jeremy Fowler: Panthers to go after QB Drew Lock
kungfoodude replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I would disagree. You want a high caliber backup to step in and not steer the ship into the rocks. At best spell you for 4-6 games. You aren't gonna get a guy to step in and win 7+ games in a year because that guy isn't really a backup at all. Also, when you are already in the rocks, it's hard to not keep hitting them. That's largely been his last two spots. -

That would genuinely be a waste of a 6th rounder. -

That's what I mean. He is "B" tier in the backup QB's. Borderline #3 QB(which are C Tier and lower by my definition). -
He didn't fit with what our DC does. It was insane he didn't get moved before he just walks away for nothing.

Traded for what he should have been drafted, in the 6th round.

I don’t think he has the patience for it either but I think this guy is more likely to be able to handle the inevitable meetings with Tepper every Monday than Reich was. Rhule navigated those with ease.

Nah, it won't be a one season thing. He's a younger guy and has that motivational speaker energy. He'll get 2-2.5 years even if we are dogshit.

Yeah, Lock is a B tier backup guy. Nothing special about that move. Overall a step down from Dalton, IMO. Not that it is likely to matter. It is Bryce or Bust for the Tepper Panthers. It will be interesting to see how long it takes to pivot if Bryce flops in year two. I am guessing he might get the hook before the fans think. I am thinking part of the way through Year 3 if it really goes to poo. -
If we really are this reckless in free agency, you can hang up any potential of hope of seeing us get better.

We should have extended before those monster deals. He definitely went up in price.

Trading for Gallup would be a nightmare. I can only imagine how bad we would get trade raped by Dallas. -
Per Musk's new AI "Grok." https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/2024/03/09/super-bowl-lix-prediction-grok-artificial-intelligence-panthers-chiefs/?utm_campaign=trueanthem&utm_medium=trueanthem&utm_source=facebook&fbclid=IwAR02FETpgMWxhulB8eJVowMhcHT_opms-oIrjTyqgDwlz12U4Yci3rVtluM_aem_AeF9GD1UkNuWoI6FenChXFVpFoB6M4v1LkxJI5x0BGqK_aEwNgQuGBHNGDOHDNnUvJ0#ltli50witbdkgsrrcr I guess we don't have to worry about SkyNet being anywhere near active yet.

That dude would have us signing TO, Jerry Rice and Randy Moss because "We NeEd NaMeZ!!!!!!" That is how you can tell he is not an original Panthers fan. Original Panthers fans remember the "sign big names in free agency" era(s) and generally how insanely poorly those went.
-
I am fine waiting for the offseason to conclude before commenting on how he is doing.
-
Unfortunately, I believe he will one up Jerry Jones and Dan Snyder when it comes to player personnel meddling.

The big concern is going to be the consistent one. Is Tepper really the one pulling the strings? I think that is going to hover over the organization for the foreseeable future.

Barkley is likely to be far cheaper than CMC was(TBD). -

Brother, if you can't understand how little any RB in the NFL(CMC included) is going to help us win, I can't make you see it. Gee, maybe the one winning season in five should have been a hint but I guess not.... -

Sure. Right. Just after almost 30+ years of overpaying RB's we should do that again. Wonderful idea. Thanks, Marty. -
I think he might just be too confident to a fault. Hero ball caught up with him a few times last year. Those windows are all tighter and those pockets collapse more quickly at the next level. This will all seem pointless if he ends up being the talent they claim but he wouldn't be the first QB that had similar faults/tendencies that flopped because of it. It all just depends on how he adjusts.
