Yeah and I don't think fans appreciate how widely the specific teams draft boards vary, either. When people start going bananas skewering the media mock drafts that are outside the box, I don't think they realize that is also the case with a real NFL franchise draft board. The variance can be pretty large on single player evals. I thought Tremble was a reach because I don't see relatively one dimensional TE's as having even third round value. But, I also don't coach nor offensively scheme for the Carolina Panthers. So, my difference in opinion from them might be astronomical.

100% agree. I think it was pretty clear how poorly Troy Pride Jr. played last year but I am not gonna write him off until the end of his 2nd or 3rd season without obvious improvement. We have Josh Norman, James Bradberry or even to some extent Daryl Worley as recent examples if guys at the position that took a little time and experience before the light clicked on. I am interested to see how the "spray and pray" draft method works with all these trades for lower round picks. I certainly hope that increases the chances of us getting more two deep players.

Yeah, any of the guys past about the 4th round that stick around on the roster for even 3 years are basically a win. Not even as starters, just as depth guys. Statistically, that is a big win based on the history of the draft. That's why I try and remind people to pump their brakes on a lot of this draft class. Don't come in here trashing them when they don't meet your unrealistic expectations. I feel the same way about Darnold and Horn. If Darnold is who he has been the past three years, you guys better be directing your vitriol towards Fitt and Rhule. Sam didn't trade for himself and he didn't draft himself. If Horn isn't a first or second year star, don't come in here trashing this kid when it often takes these rookie DB's a little bit of time(2-3 seasons) before they start hitting their stride. Be patient and direct the butthurt where it should be directed.

We will see how it turns out. I expect he will be a very good blocking TE/H-back and fill a role in that regard. The people expecting him to be a consistent pass catching threat are very likely to be disappointed. That's what I meant by the "outlier" comment. The examples of outliers are easy to remember precisely because they are outliers. The averages don't work that way, however. I guess we have to hope he is an outlier. If we somehow landed a class of outliers, then you have to consider the new FO and coaching staff to be hitting on genius level drafts. I am certainly perfectly happy if that is the case and my skepticism is unwarranted.

Probably not until next offseason, provided another team doesn't get him first. At this rate, the smartest move he could probably make is to play this season a day ball out. If he does that and is relatively contrite about the situation, people will eventually be less pissed off. If he is available for our QB search next offseason, I wouldn't be surprised to see us involved.

I don't generally agree that NFL players are overly compensated as a whole(individually, certainly). Like you said, it was a lifetime of hard work to get there, most of it without compensation. Congrats on your son's accomplishment. All his hard work certainly paid off, as well.
