The shootout win should definitely boost his confidence going forward. If he can keep this up and hit FA as a 25 year old goalie coming off a solid NHL season, it will absolutely be a BIG boost to his wallet.

Still can't fathom why he passed that one up.

The salary cap relief was more than likely the reason behind it. We had to play shorthanded because we were maxed out and didn't want to put guys on LTIR in order to sign replacements. I like Dzingel, but kinda seems like a win for both sides. Ryan is definitely the better player. But, most of the beat writers think Paquette is a better fit in our top 9. Ottawa gets their boy back, we get some cap flexibility and (hopefully) upgrade the chemistry on our top 3 lines.

I'm with you and Rocky that Reimer is not a guy you can ride to a Stanley Cup. Not sure Mrazek is either. Ned might be one day. But, I don't think we need any of them to be That Guy this season. I definitely disagree that both James and Petr are backups. When healthy, they are an almost ideal 1a/1b. Both are guys that you can rely on generally not to lose you the game. And both are capable of games, like tonight, where they are THE reason you win. In a condensed season, with tons of back to backs, it might be more beneficial to have 2 of those guys than one star netminder and some scrub behind him.
