Am I the only one thinking he will play some safety for us? -
Curious as to why no Strong pre-draft visit.

And yes I seem to remember that we did work out Star. -

For what it's worth last off-season Coach Proehl traveled the country and worked out the best receivers while documenting the entire thing on Twitter as to where he was. He started doing the same thing this year but abruptly stopped after a week or two. I am wondering if the Panthers requested he stop. -

Yup been saying similar things about Strong since watching as many full game cut ups on him as possible. He isn't a fluid athlete. He runs poor routes. He is constantly failing to get separation and he always seems to have a corner draped all over him. I expect those things to continue at the next level. His athleticism pops when you look at his combine numbers, but it ends there for me. I was a huge fan of his early in the process but the more I watched the more I really wouldn't love the pick in the first round. He'll be an average #2 possession receiver and a decent red zone threat in the NFL and will likely always struggle to win vertically and will need to be more aggressive to win with corners draped all over him. -
Hoping I wake up to news that he was signed with us tomorrow morning. I think he could play safety and corner depending on personnel packages. Invaluable in the locker room and I'd wager he is still a ball hawk and can make plays behind our front seven. After two years of injuries he's likely hungry and wants to prove he can still produce. What better place to do it than under his former coordinator Rivera?

@DNewtonespn: Bears free agent cornerback Charles Tillman is in town making an official visit with the #Panthers, league sources told me. @ESPNChiBears: Should add that Tillman and #Panthers have not discussed a contract yet. Still in early stages. Useful veteran. Maybe could play some safety in some packages. Provides more veteran leadership for an otherwise young secondary. Ball-hawk that would excel behind our front seven. UPDATE: Black & Blue Review ‏@BlackBlueReview 7m 7 minutes ago And it’s official: #Panthers sign Charles Tillman to a one-year deal.

Brandt, Cosell, and Mayock share the same sentiments about Perriman. He won't go top 10 most likely but he will be a first round pick. Mayock mentioned just the other day that he has Parker and Perriman about even for third best receiver in the draft. His word isn't gold but he knows more than the casual fan. Brandt and Cosell both believe the concerns over Perriman's hands are overblown.

There seems to be a lot of teams in the market for a WR early, including us. Raiders definitely need a true number one guy. The Jets are meeting with Cooper. St. Louis has other needs but Cooper or White could be BPA at ten. The Vikings may want to pair Teddy with DeVante Parker once again. The Saints may look to address the position after losing Stills and Graham. The Dolphins now need a true number one or could stand to pair another young receiver with Jarvis Landry. Then throw in teams like the Browns, Eagles, and Chiefs that could all make a case for taking a receiver in the first and things could get interesting on draft night. I personally see six WRs going in the first after immediate production from rookies at the position last year: Cooper, White, Parker, Perriman, DGB, and Strong. The good news for us sitting at 25 is that the position is relatively deep this year and some or even most of those teams may wait to address the position in the second or third rounds. Impossible to really make definitive statements at this point but it's fun to think about the possibilities.

If it came down to Peat or Perriman....
OnlyPantherFaninMaine replied to MedellinHeel's topic in Carolina Panthers
I could ask the same question for those that prefer Strong: Why was he getting so much hype post-combine? Because he ran fast for a guy his size and jumped really high. If you actually go and watch this kid play, he doesn't play to his timed speed and he's stiff as hell in and out of his breaks. I liked Strong and he was my preference for the majority of this process, but props to FreeFua for really opening my eyes about him. Go and watch him play. Corners are on his hip like glue almost every time he makes a catch. He rarely gets separation. Rarely cleanly beats his man. Almost always catches back shoulder throws because ASU knew that timing route was the only consistent way for Strong to beat his man. Okay... so Strong has superior hands to Perriman. Fair. But he also is going to have an NFL DB attached to his hips everywhere he goes to knock those passes away. Every Kelvin catch for the most part is contested. The same will be true with Strong. I'd rather have Perriman who can actually get space on athletic ability alone. The route running improvements will come with coaching. Give me the guy that can beat his man over the top and run away from the field in the NFL. Literally all the brightest and best minds on prospects and the draft, Mayock, Brandt, Cossell etc. all agree Breshad Perriman's "dropsies" and route running problems are overblown and they all rave about his natural ability. Perriman is Julio Jones lite. Carolina has never had a 6'3 215lb freak at the receiver position that has produced in college and got better every year. Before just joining in on the popular opinion about his hands go watch him and I bet you change your mind. -

Lots of misinformation and lazy generalizing/comparisons about Perriman in this thread. -
I want absolutely nothing to do with Holliman. I respect your opinion and the guy certainly put up some great takeaway numbers, but he may be one of the worst tacklers I have ever seen. He's instinctive and pretty smooth back there but for a guy to be a safety and have that size and be reluctant to tackle is alarming. On top of that he ran deathly slow for a safety at his pro day and didn't jump particularly well either. I don't think he's an NFL caliber athlete especially as a safety in a passing league where he will need cover ground and tackle. Can't imagine an aggressive Rivera defense with a guy that refuses to tackle out back. I'm almost positive Sample will be taken before him. Troubling that he's said to give minimal effort and won't always play at full speed. That doesn't sound like a Gettleman guy to me.
