You are talking Ridder now. Surprised you know who Tony Pike is to be honest
-
Now his positives…a flat out leader of the offense. Takes it upon himself to lead a team from behind even facing big deficits. Is mobile in the pocket. Can slide and maneuver through a collapsing pocket like a pro. He made many difficult throws with pressure all around him. A gym rat that lives and breathes football. Plays his game regardless of the talent surrounding him. Meaning he is a playmaker that distributes the ball to playmakers. Can make multiple reads and find the best option quickly. Limited wind up on his throws. Has some of the most catchable, beautiful deep ball throws even with pressure. Will sacrifice his well being to make a play. Has been an unquestionable offensive weapon from day one on campus at UNC. Lots pf growing and refinement room. Has a very even, relaxed personality. Mistakes quickly forgotten and moves to the next play easily. Never rattled. Like never. Tough player who can take punishment. And lastly…his leadership and character were flat out givens at UNC. Mack Brown raved about this guy’s character. Egoless to a fault

Let me be a critic of Sam Howell for a min. He has some serious things to work on here. He tends to drift from the pocket and into pressure from time to time. He has good pocket awareness but needs work there. He also has a tendency to bail out of a clean pocket. The UNC OL was atrocious so that is a problem but understandable. He doesn’t have a rocket arm. Good arm strength not great. Not a great athlete either. The UNC system did allow him to hit the first read quite a bit but he is underrated finding second and third options. Average size to oversee a defense especially under pressure. Will probably see balls batted down more than some QBs. His team especially last season tended to play from behind a lot. Good and bad here as he does tend to force things trying to do too much. Just a fact. Level of competition is questionable to some degree. He does have some sandlot type tendencies where he just tosses passes up for grabs instead of protecting the ball. Needs to fix this. All these things are a symptom of a bad OL and terrible defense that puts him in bad situations but he needs work nonetheless

This just isn’t close to true. Wilson was a decent college QB. Hence he went later in the draft. If you don’t like Howell fine but he would not have a 3rd round grade and if he did his career will probably turn out much like Wilsons in the right situation. Howell can play and at this time has so many things he can improve upon. He makes some throws that he makes look really easy that most QBs can’t do

Albert Breer on the Panthers quarterback options
Shocker replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Naw…when I say trade down it would not be very far. Target OL and QB. Take what the board gives you. One of these QBs will definitely be there mid first round. I know where you are going here though. If they pinpoint a QB he will go at 6. They won’t risk it IMO. -
Albert Breer on the Panthers quarterback options
Shocker replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
I am going to hope most of the options he mentioned aren’t taken. Kenny Pickett would be a disaster and not better than Darnold. If we build the OL and left QB for later I would like that much better than a Pickett or other QB reach. Sadly, I would put us reaching for a QB at like 90% probability atp. Fitty and Rhule better do some serious evaluations before taking any of these QBs at 6. I like Sam Howell personally but even then I would want him in a trade down scenario. Willis…same. Trade down first. This QB group is really suspect overall. You shouldn’t just pick the best suspect talent and call him the savior. -
That goes for any of these players Well done @LinvilleGorge you already know I agree with you on Sam Howell. Again…Sam Howell walked on the scene at UNC and made the offense very dangerous right away. Some ups and downs but he pretty consistently produced as well. None of these other dudes can say that.

Trading Back-What could we get for the #6 pick? Is it worth it?
Shocker replied to Michael G's topic in Carolina Panthers
You are probably correct but he will need a lot of work and time IMO. Obviously some skills there but a gamble on greatness for sure. He worries me as a passer pretty much in every aspect except pure arm strength Also, very worrisome that he couldn’t win the #2 QB slot at Auburn before he transferred -

At 6?!? Oh boy -
Payton runs up the cap and rides off into the sunset

Yeah I was just stating that a move down could net us a second (and more as you stated) but we would need a QB we like to drop to round 2 with the limited ammo we have in this draft. I don’t want to touch next years picks in any move back up from round 2 type scenario. I am thinking we almost have to come out of this draft with a top OL. We can’t put this off anymore

What is Joe Burrow’s superior trait to Kenny Pickett?
Shocker replied to FuFuLamePoo's topic in 2025 NFL Draft
There isn’t one single trait, measurable or stat that would suggest Kenny Pickett is even close to as good as Joe Burrow at literally anything. He was better his last year than previous years. That the only similarity at all. -
Quick read from a scout on Pickett… QB #8 Kenny Pickett 6’3″ 220 (5th round league grade) Daniel Kelly’s Draft Board: He is not on my board NFL Comparable: Rusty Hilger Good fit: Bills, Jets, Browns, Steelers, Chargers, Titans, Giants, Cowboys, Vikings, Lions and Seahawks 2021 Film Exposure: Western Michigan, Georgia Tech, Clemson and Miami Level of Competition: Moderate Chief concern: Radical spike in statistics in 2021 Character concerns: None (background search came back clean) Probability of being a bust: 50/50 Best way to beat him: Funnel coverages heavily towards the middle of the field where he loves to throw. Take away the middle of the field. Make him work the intermediate sidelines and work the short and deep levels. Scouting Report Frumpy looking and rough around the edges raw and mobile signal-caller with average arm strength and ball placement. Unorthodox, unconventional, and quirky. Operates out of shotgun formation. Glove on his throwing hand. Good ball-handling skills. Decent play-action fake. He looks extremely uncomfortable in the pocket. Elongated throwing motion. Happy feet. He will bail at the first sign of pressure. Spooked easily. Runs all over the place. Tends to take sacks. More of a sand-lot pick-up game type. Tends to lock-in. Best in the short to intermediate route level range. Ball has a tendency to sail high on him. Inconsistent ball placement. He does not throw the easiest ball to catch. Does not tend to throw receiver-friendly passes where receivers can just catch and go. Tends to like to work in the intermediate middle of the field. Inconsistent accuracy deep. Decent, but not a great arm. NFL defensive backs will feast on his passes with ball placement issues and lacking top-level arm strength. Tends to do better against lesser competition levels. Leads with a herky-jerky rhythm and tempo. Tough runner. Gets what he can. Knows how to slide. Probably the best thing he has going for him is he tends to protect the football. He does not throw stupid and careless passes.

I seriously do not know that is the case. Not kidding

What is Joe Burrow’s superior trait to Kenny Pickett?
Shocker replied to FuFuLamePoo's topic in 2025 NFL Draft
I love people just ignoring hand size. It is a measured trait for QBs because it does matter. Pickett is not really proven though. One good year against ACC defenses is not proven. Where was he the last 2 years? Big red flags for me. -
2nd interview with firmer Bears ST coach Chris Tabor
Shocker replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
This board has become a cesspool of negativity and whining. This guy has solid experience and would be a great hire. -
Not enough to get up to 26…we would have trade next years 1 and more A trade down first grabbing Cross who would need to fall and then have Howell fall to round 2 would be nice. Won’t happen IMO but I can dream
-
Agree…desperate measures. No way we stand still at QB this offseason with Rhule fighting for his job
-
Looking back over Ben Simmons everyone knows he can’t shoot but his attitude is the bigger issue. That plus the 76ers insanity with how much he is worth. Probably best to stay away from Ben entirely
-
Damn Tobias Harris has a ridiculous contract. I think I pass as well
-
Interesting…thanks for the post
-
Combine as well. Will be interesting to see actual measurements for Howell and Corral and others. Willis will have a great opportunity to show the athleticism there as well
-
I respectfully disagree. He isn’t close to Lamar Jackson who is on another level as a runner. I am extremely hesitant with guys that did it against bad comp and struggle mightily against decent defenses. Not buying the hype. There are much better options. All these QBs are a reach at 6 but Willis would be a bad bet for a ton of reasons If I am picking one of these guys I am looking for a passer. Howell, Corral and Willis won’t survive running in the league for long.
-
I can’t see the hype with him. Someone like Corral has similar athleticism, a better arm is much more accomplished a passer against way better comp. I think Willis is going to completely bust. He isn’t a good passer and he can’t run at his size in the league. Jalen Hurts is way better than this guy and I don’t love Hurts personally.
