To trade up one spot to get a 5th year option makes no sense to me. Either a player is good enough to extend before the option year or he becomes a malcontent that 5th year

    D for Dan and Dave

Its leverage my friend, it was only for a 5th-6th swap. AJ brown just got 32 million per in new dollars. Legette 5th option should be around 13 million. He would be 28-29 if he plays under it as well. That's a 20% control factor if legette balls out, HUGE when the money is talked about.

    Its about control.

Im not a big legette fan, but that was crazy to me seeing billy beane undervalue that discounted option. He did Morgan and the Panthers a big favor. Other reports were Pats were after a WR and got close to a trade, but billy knew who we wanted.

Need to send billy a Costco gift card....

Ask me in five years whether this draft class was good or not.

Having said that, I'll grade the 2019 draft...

R1 P16: Brian Burns - I'll argue this was a good pick. At the minimum, he was worth enough to have gotten a seriously good offer of picks which, in retrospect, we should've taken. But we still got something for him and his new team gave him a ton of money.

R2 P37: Greg Little - Utter and complete flop. Only real value was somehow getting a 7th rounder from the Dolphins.

R3 R100: Will Grier  - Played godawful the rare times he was on the field. Somehow still in the league.

R4 P115: Christian Miller - Nothing of note.

R5 P154: Jordan Scarlett - I don't think he even lasted two years.

R6 P212: Dennis Daley - Some flashes of promise but we eventually traded him for some picks. Was terrible in Tennessee. I'll consider this a success since we got picks back.

R7 P237: Terry Godwin - Did not last here long at all.

In summary, we got one quality starter... who is now gone. Daley might've been the second best player of this class and he was a middling backup at best. Burns saved this class from being a complete disaster.

    D+

That class on the whole was hellla bad, but the fact is what a makes a great class is lots less than what us fans think.

    2 average-good starters

    1 top backup/4 phase STer

    that's a great class.

So given team have 7-8/9(comps) draft picks each year, just hitting on 30% equals success.

You can look up Ozzie Newsome, who some think is the best GM ever. His 2010-2015 years were GOD awful, Id even say worse than Marty "give me a" herniay. He only had one great pick in CJ mosley, maybe a couple good starters...... the remains are trash.

Who was your RB1 this draft?

I know Daniel Jeremiah had MarShawn Lloyd as his best RB. I super disagrees as did other teams. bryce young got a few inches on him!!

I had brooks as the clear best, just didn't want to touch him until 65, honestly I wanted to avoid drafting RBs in general, made a exception for brooks. You can get a stud RB in the FA market each year for discounted cost the last 5 or so years..

We got guys at the top of our board. We got the 2nd best running back, the fourth or fifth best receiver, and the 2nd best tight end.

dan Morgan went BPA which is what you need to do when you’re working with what Morgan had and where the team is right now.

Honestly I got PTSD form herniay drafting LBs and RBs.

The draft nerd in me loathed seeing that happen again in rounds 2&3. That's WITH me agreeing the brooks was the best, I didn't know of the LB.

In those early rounds focus should always be QB, edge, DL, OT, WR, and CB.... * unless Larry Allen ed reed clones are there....

I don't think so. I would bet he plays some this season. He will be a full time starter by the end of the season if not sooner. Who's his competition? His only limit is how fast he can absorb the playbook.

I just look at vids, looked like its going to take more time. all these guys need weight room and sanders is no different.

It normally takes longer for TEs and WRs than RBs and QBs.

I don't think Ive seen sanders block anyone. TB didn't barely use the TE last year by my findings.

Still love the pick and its my fav, but sanders needs to diet and learn to block fast.

You are right, tremble is his only comp, (gosh he's still sooo young)Without looking they maybe within  a year of each other.

Need to see the offense in action.

I forgot to mention that overall we probably received a B. Like some said in the other thread, the real or practical grade comes after the season.

The best improvement comes after the second full off-season.

So the start of 2025 is when the fair grade/judgement can take place.

*this changes if the player is cut or makes a all-pro/pro bowl/SB MVP etc.

  7. 32- ladd

    46- frazier

    72- trice

    101- sanders(*love the Franklin pick same here0

    157- Caelen Carson

    200- Watson

    240- cornelious johnson

This is totally unfair to Dan Morgan judgement, I get to see were the break/fall in talent is like the edge group.

Honestly doing this makes me feel my "D" grade is too low, his draft picks look just as good as mine and I cheated.

with all the negativity right now, I think a fun exercise would be to see if you were GM who would you have picked. It's too complicated to go back through all the trades so let's just pretend those are set in stone. Here's how I would have done it:

This will be fun to bump in a year when I am completely wrong about all of this.

FWIW this is not a complaining thread it's more of an exercise to show that for all of you negativity it's actually really hard to nail drafts in real time.

    32- Ladd

    46- AD Mitchell

    72- Christian Haynes

    101- Theo Johnson

    157- Caelen Carson

    200- Cedric Johnson

    240- Beau Brade

Going back and looking at the 3rd, I was a tad hard on the Wallace pick.

You need to do a OG one with no trades 33, 39, 65, etc.

    In fact

    33- ladd

    39- kool-aid

    65- colson

    101- sanders

    141- van pran granger

    142- Austin booker

    240- cornelious johnson

There's going to be serious competition in Training Camp at WR. Outside of Thielen, Legette, and Johnson, the rest of the WR core is open.

They will keep seven. Only the 1st 4 are guaranteed a roster spot this season. It could be 4 spots if one of these guys can carve out a spot on special teams somehow.

I think ISM has a 51% chance this year as well, he finished strong and KOs could help him stay as well.

I do feel WR will be featured more, but they also said "WE are going to run the ball".

3 spots in the wr room is up for grabs.

You think mingo isn't safe, it is a new staff/eyes/brains etc....but that would hurt if they cut a 39 overall player just one year in....yes, he didn't look good, same goes for the other 49 players..

They signed him to a contract--I realize one that they can break, but that shows they have a place for him.  I think they were waiting for the draft to decide what they are going to do with TMJ.  They drafted Legette to do the job that he has failed to do....Coker will play STs and spot duty as a WR and he will compete for the slot job when Thielen leaves.  The money suggests that they are more serious about him, unless there is something I don't understand.

By the numbers I think he just needs to beat out TMJ, that's done by just being 5 minutes early to his meeting!!

Panthers can carry 7 WRs as well, there's room given the talent level and 2 QBs.

Honestly that's the first thing canalas needs to do, forget numbers, just carry the talent.

If that's even true, it's because he and his cohort know how to talk to people. No bullshit and selling a dream.

Player- "Yes Im here" "puts Dan on speaker"

Dan- " My team is your best chance to make NFL roster"

Agent- "Nods yes over and over"

Player- "Tell Mr. Tepper, Im signing with the Panthers "
