So you want to overpay Burns? Sometimes playing hardball is the best way to meet in the middle. Rams trade aside (that's a sunk cost now) we appear to be trying to not overpay him.

He is playing or getting his contract very soon. Why else would be even be at these practices?

You could argue either point successfully. Giving Young no defense and forcing him into obvious passing situations while taking unnecessary extra hits isn't an ideal way to develop him. We appear to be wanting to have a solid defense (that's our goal but who knows how it will look) plus a solid running game for Young to lean on. Our staff thinks that Moore (a great WR2/low end WR1) will be easier to replace then a top 10 young pass rusher.

I feel confident that no one confidently knows how we are going to look this season.

I wonder if they flip Sewell to LT for the time Decker is out. Sewell should be solid there.

You can pretty much use that last prediction for every game after seeing how we handled preseason games.

21-17 Carolina. Bryce throws 2 TDs (one is a dump off to Sanders) and has 250 passing yards. Burns pressures Ridder into a game ending INT late in the 4th.

No big deal. To your point he did disappear in that last Tampa game where the division was on the line.

Burns is about to be public enemy number 1 by the Huddle when he signs his new contract. Every play that isn’t a sack will lead to anger.

This would be a reason not to wait to extend players. Last year’s Crosby deal looks great.

They are just playing the cards they are allowed to play much like a team franchise tagging a player vs extending him.
