if I was a GM, my best players need to be drafted and retained before they hit the final year of the contract. You supplement your roster in FA with primarily role players and to build depth on the roster. Maybe if you're knocking on the superbowl window you make a splash signing but we all know that may not come for years if all things go right.

Only thing I would be critical of is the shape of our defense, but perhaps we have to acknowledge they had to prioritize the offensive side of the ball in order to properly evaluate Bryce. It should have been known that Defense would take a step back, but the injuries just made it 10X worse.
